Legault +spd vs +atk

I am merging him right now and have a hard time deciding his boon.
I feel like +spd is more future oriented as the speed level rises but I tend towards +atk. Someone once said 2x0 is still 0 haha
We are talking about 44 vs. 47 speed before skills and buffs, except for spd refinement.
What are your opinions? Not only as a nuke but very likely close counter build

I dunno why you want a close counter build on Legault, he's very much a player phase unit.
Saizo would work better for close counter.

I'd go for atk, and refine the dagger for spd.
That way Legault has 46/40 offences before skills. Add in something like fury+desperation+flashing blade and have fun.

Going for spd boon is just overkill most of the time, especially if you merge him.

Reason 1: I love the assassin playstyle, e.g. like jaffar had it in his game. But merging jaffar is difficult and and then his stats still suck.
Reason 2: my high investment builds are rather out of the box. I just start an intensive build if I am really convinced by it or like it.
Reason 3: Saizo would just be a wall and debuffer. that's not what I want from CC builds.

Legault +10 with rogue dagger, close counter, atk smoke seems really fun - theoretically as I am at +9 now and just gave him cc today. B skill is flexible. Haven't decided yet whether flashing blade or something more defensive like atk/def or spd/def as a seal.
41/52/44/30/23 statline
Basically a sword Lord's stats who can attack from a far and counters close. He chooses where to enter a fight and is set up with atk/def debuff and self-buffed bulk for the enemy phase.

I will post the build once it's done

Well, if you want to go with close counter assassin, atk is a must.

As far as I know, the idea of assassin close counter is that a unit debuffs and chips down enemies and kill them when they attack the turn after.

A skill like Vantage with as much attack as possible is the way to go. Add in double savage blow..

I would go with Sothe and focus on the one shots. Legault will too easily die in enemy phase when not dealing enough damage. Sothe can debuff, buff and chip down when attacking. And he's ready to take enemies the turn after

Edit: The reason why Jaffar is concidered for this build is that he can compensate for his low attack:
More chip damage from deathly dagger. Free chips on mages. And Jaffar can take a hit just a bit better than most dagger users.

That's detailed thanks :) I even have a couple of Sothes but haven't been using him as much as I wanted to. Maybe it's also a choice of preferences why I took Legault.
If CC doesn't work I can still go for a full player phase build. And imo jaffar and Legault are the only daggers with an assassin like character without being a ninja.

Btw I will go for +atk

I think you want +atk if you want him to deal good damage. I plan to build him as a debuffer using null follow-up so I don't really care about his atk, which means I probably use +spd.
