Kinda Long, but Favorite Units in Each Weapon Type?
Since this question has yet to make its rounds, and I feel like typing a lot and not writing any of my stories, I'm writing my favorite units from each weapon (colored bow not included) and asking y'all to do the same and why you like them.
Sword-
Ryoma. By far, Ryoma (non legendary) is my favorite sword unit in the game, partially because he means a lot to me from his story and partial because he's never actually disappointed since I pulled him. When I played Birthright, I had already played Conquest and it tugged on my heartstrings (I was extremely attached to the Nohrian siblings) as I was approaching the last few chapters of the game. At the same time, to prevent my unit from dying as I progressed in the story, I had paired her with Ryoma since he was practically demolishing everything in his way as it is, he was making it easier for me to finish the story. Thus, my Corrin easily wracked up S support with Ryoma, and I married him by accident. I still love him, despite the fact I did that, and I've always been fond of characters voice by Matt Mercer, so Ryoma definitely deserves this placement. Plus, a joke on him is half my name.
Runner Ups: Zelgius/Black Knight, WT!Reinhardt, Arden
Red Tome-
M!Morgan, The fateswakening bias is real, but whatever - M!Morgan was my first child character I actually built on, and he's extremely precious to me since I put a lot of work into him both in Awakening and in Heroes. Outside of my main four, he's probably the only unit I've spent more on than any other. He's also an absolute sweetheart, all while taking out opponents with ease.
Runner Ups- Canas, Henry, Lyon
Red Dragon-
Summer Young Tiki. She's an absolute monster in stats and adorable to boot - it makes me really happy to see her having fun in the summer, since I know her past leads her to having spend a lot of time missing out on all of what she could have seen. Knowing that she gets to have her summer fun, finally, makes me happy, and I know it's silly but it makes me happy for her.
Runner Up: Adult Tiki
Lance-
Fallen Hardin. Talk about heartstring tugging. Hardin was a character I didn't know much about until after he got released, which prompted me and my lack of older FE knowledge to down the wiki rabbit hole to investigate who he was and why he's fallen and not regular. Ow. My heart. Hardin was basically built to fall into the depression he was in, considering how passionately in love he was with a woman who didn't love him, on top of the stress of his country? It's heartbreaking how his emotions were played upon and it end up being his downfall. While I wish he had gotten his way, just for a while, I also feel for Camus's side of things as well, since it seemed like all three were destined to fall into this pattern. Maybe I'm not supposed to, but I do feel bad for Hardin and the story he is part of.
Runners Up: Azura, Shigure, Finn, Bride Charlotte
Blue Tome-
Reinhardt. Okay, considering what I just said about Hardin, it's not a surprise I have similar emotions about Reinhardt. He's a very well written, tragic character, and his struggle between his sister betraying him, Ishtar being flat out banned form him, even the fact he can't find any solace in Sias is just heart breaking, especially since he openly denied his chance to betray his home with his sister, but didn't. He's insanely powerful, yes, but his heart was broken when he went into battle, and being struck down by his own sister makes that hurt even more.
Runner Ups: PA!Shigure, Oliver, Olwen
Blue Dragon-
M!Kana. He's so CUTE. This is probably because I always play female avatars in games, but Kana bean was so adorable and I appreciate how he still had personality while being a cute lil' bean. He's even got power in heroes, too, and I'm so glad that he's so strong.
Runners Up: Ninian, Nowi
Axe-
Legion. Anyone who has talked to me on this site for at least 3 minutes knows that I absolutely adore Legion. Much like may of my favorites, Legion's tragic story drew me in, after realizing how much I absolutely love his design. I can't even begin to imagine how horrible his life could have been, orphaned only to be trained into a murderer who ends up getting slaughtered by the person who cared for him. Maybe it's the social worker in me, but Legion strikes me as the type I'm going to be protecting form everyone than the other way around. His 40 5* conversation breaks me heart! I just want that boy to be happy.
Runner Ups: Gunter, Libra, Arthur, PA!Azura, Walhart
Green Tome-
Halloween Henry. I would have totally put him as the red mage too, but I had to give M!Morgan credit. Henry is a fascinating character who I love writing about, because he's a lot more than his appearance suggests and I feel he's one of the best written characters in Awakening. While there's... issues between his personality depending on which version you're more loyal to, I rather like the idea Henry's accepted the fact he's fucked up in the head and, though he wants to keep everyone distant, is long past the "haunted by my pain" and jokes about it instead. That leads to him having a much better character and I really like the change the American localisation did to Henry in that case, it makes him feel less stereotypical.
Green Dragon-
Fae. She ends up following the same route as M!Kana, she's adorable and ends up being my favorite more because I'm annoyed by the other dragons in her grouping than I am with her. While not my most favorite character, I appreciate how childish she is without being over exaggerated.
Runner Up: M!Grima
Bow-
Virion. I adore Virion, even his stupid, over exaggerated accent and his terrible stats, because of his character. He comes off as a flirty, air headed noble who clearly has no place in the war he's fighting. But once I started to learn about him, Virion blew me away with how he works. He has problems and worries because he's the duke of a nation that Walhart conquered in his quest for power. Fearing for the lives of himself and his people, Virion orders a mass evacuation to save as many lives as he can by displacing them, then to gain favor with Ylisse (who was already fighting with Plegia) so he could have their forces help him take his home back. None of it works the way he hopes, and his people despise him for what he does. He still does his duties regardless if he gets married or not, taking all of the blame for his actions and doing his best to regain the love of his people. In his alone ending, they flat out say he never wins their favor, but if he is married, his wife is the only way he is able to win them back over. He runs from his problems because he doesn't know any other way to handle them, and he's ridiculed for everything. But no matter what, he still keeps trying. That's why he's my favorite - you can knock Virion down as much as you want, but he always, always gets back up.
Runners Up: Brave Lyn, Summer Takumi, Klein
Staff-
Azama. The other part of my Salt Lobster name, this Matt Mercer voice monk easily shot up my favorites list thanks to his snarky comments and nihilistic beliefs. It's always a delight listening to Azama and reading his supports with others, and the fact he's such an amazing wall in Heroes makes me love him even more. He may not be as tragic as the others on this list, but not everyone can be sad, right?
Runners Up: Elise, Maribelle, Wyrs, Lissa
Dagger-
Legault. I was suprised too - I thought for sure I’d be putting Jakob here, since I married him in Fates, but Legault has earned a weird little sliver in my heart. He’s not only rather attractive in his art and his voice, my heart reaches out for him. He seems like a man stuck to cause he no longer believes in, but continues anyway because he has to. At least, that’s what I got from Legault.
Runners Up: Jakob, Jaffar, Spring Kagero
And that's my long list! Who are your favorites, and why? Let me know!
Answers
Favorite units... in FEH... Welp. That's pretty easy since a lot of my favorites aren't even in the game yet. xD
Sword - Lon'qu - Despite his kinda awkward art styles in Awakening (it looked like half of his face was missing..) and in FEH (not entirely feeling it), I really liked him. The fact that he was always so blunt with everything he said always struck me as hilarious, although I found his fear of women to be a bit odd until I actually learned why he feared them, or rather why he feared getting close to them. The fact that he crit in practically every (other) altercation in Awakening just reinforced my love for him, and his critical quotes were nice to listen to.
Red Tome - Henry - This was kinda difficult to choose since I absolutely adore M!Morgan, but Henry also cracks me up. His terrible (but funny) jokes (in the English version), the fact that he arrived on a flock of crows, and that the only reason he even cared enough to inform Panne about the assassination attempt on Emmeryn was because he didn't want the fun to end, it's just funny. His back story is sad, and it explains just why he tends to be the way he is, but he can care for his friends and allies.
Axe - Walhart - He's actually my favorite out of the current axe units because of his support conversations with Robin (as well as his critical quotes). He goes on about how physically weak Robin is, but, in the same breath, can compliment them on their ability to lead an entire army. Him being the most devout vegetarian has absolutely nothing to do with it. Nope.
Green Tome - H!Henry - Basically the same reasons why I like regular Henry... but this one has a giant coffin with him. There's nothing more to say. :)
Bow - Takumi - I really like Takumi, and I never understood why so many people dislike him. He was one of the ONLY people to not kiss Corrin's ass the moment he/she walked into Hoshido, and with good reason! He feels inferior to Corrin, and often has the feeling of jealousy on how everyone's attention immediately falls to Corrin, almost like he's forgotton (and was even willing to let them have Fujin Yumi).
Dagger - Jaffar - I love Jaffar, and how he's so protective of Nino (even if I can't stand her a lot of the time). The Angel of Death will always have a place in my heart with the way he treats her, going from cold-blooded killer to warm and caring all because of her, and even willing to protect her..

A fun question to think about.
Sword- L! Ike : I love using defensive units, and he was most readily availible. Also loved using Ike in smash prior to Lucina's release :p (soon to be M!Marth once she can be +10.)
Runners Up: M!Marth, Soleil, Chrom, Sigurd
Lance- Brave Lucina: Lucina is best girl. She is the only Lance user I have used recently other than for arena scoring.
Runners Up: Fjorm, S!Cordelia, Ephraim
Axe- NY! Azura: Not sure if there is another unit that I have used more since summoning her. A flying dancer is freaking amazing, especially when you slap guidance on her and pair her up with a few armoured units.
Runner Up: Sheena
Red Tome- W! Tharja: Not a fan of Tharja as a character, but I can't argue with how powerful she is and how easy she makes the armour emblem quests.
Runner Up: Arvis
Blue Tome- Micaiah: First unit to have double effectiveness, and it really comes in handy. She has been the only mage I have brought into arena in the recent months, because of the effectiveness against Armours
Runners Up: L'Arachel, Robin (M), Morgan (F)
Green Tome- Nino: The first unit I upgraded to 5* using feathers well over a year ago. She was hella good then and still holds her own today.
Runners Up: None
Red Dragon- Adult Tiki: Only ever summoned her.
Blue Dragon- Nowi: Corrin isn't as good, and Kanna (M) lacks merges.
Green Dragon- Fallen Robin- Not even a competition. Grima has been my best unit hands down since the day I summoned him.
Bow- Brave Lyn: Only based on how powerful she is.
Runners Up: L!Lucina (Just summoned and can't wait to test her out :D), Kinshii Hinoka
Dagger- Felicia: Honestly the only dagger I have ever used, and don't even have her at 5*
Staff- Lissa: Have her fully built at +1 with a pain/Savage Blow set.
Runners Up: Elise (If I had her)

For combat:
Sword: probably Karla? I don't play many aggressive swords. Caeda seems very good; I intend to find out soon just how good. I think I like firesweep Soleil and L.Ryoma
Axe: L.Hector with his ridiculous weapon, or maybe Sheena for mixed bulk and aether healing. On offence, Raven for galeforce.
Lance: probably Cordelia. Firesweep galeforce, go!
Bow: B.Lyn for mobility, Sacae's blessing, and ability to receive hone cavalry
Dagger: Felicia, apparently. I'm merging her. Res is great, keeping up with speedy mages is great, adaptive damage is fantastic and accomplishes some funny things.
Red mage: probably B.Tharja, but I don't have her so either regular Tharja or SM Eirika, again because cavalry. Lilina is runner-up
Blue mage: probably Ishtar because desperation moonbow
Green mage: Olwen outside arena (because anti-cavalry terrain), Nino in. So fast
Red manakete: regular Y.Tiki. Doesn't need Iote's, has spd and balanced defenses
Green manakete: probably Grima, especially with bold or wary fighter. Fae's low def is awkward and I'm not convinced about Kana's res
Blue manakete: Kana, except he can't be high-merged and he's the easiest source of brazen def/res. I do like Nowi enough.
Staff: not sure. I haven't understood how to do much more with healers than heal and wrazzle dazzle. Elise is excellent, I know, and Maribelle more or less powercreeped her.
For other than combat: I don't know the stories well, but...
Sword: Zelgius. Seeks good and to be good; not interested just in the appearance of winning. He wants to know where he stands and to know that he is genuinely, objectively excellent. Seems to know how to handle loss. Seems to me one of the most mature characters in the entire franchise
Axe: maybe PA Azura? Lovely voice. If not then W.Lissa because she's so pleasant to look at, especially compared to a lot in this game...
Lance: Azura again? I'm not really attached to any, maybe mostly for lack of familiarity. Fjorm also has an amazing voice
Red tome: M.Morgan maybe? Leo's not bad
Blue tome: maybe Micaiah? I have difficulty understanding her motivations but if she can do what she did for Sothe that says a lot
Green tome: Lilina because she looks amazing! All the LA characters look amazing but she's my favorite
Bow: not sure, but I'm definitely sold on the quality of Rebecca's voice. Lyn's too, but I like Rebecca's even better
Dagger: Feliciaaaaaaaa if only I could understand why she likes her master so much
Staff: Nanna has such a lovely voice and she looks nice too. But I quite like the derpiness in Lissa's Heroes rendition and the softness in Sakura's manners
Red manakete: adult Tiki. Little Tiki is charming, but it's really her story and her insistence on opening her heart to humanity despite the pain of loss that awes me
Green manakete: Fae by a large margin. Kana is kind of cute, but rawr rawr! I definitely prefer the rawrs
Blue manakete: Ninian's soft nature is really nice, but Nowi is more what I think I need - lots of play, and yet actually really mature.
Now if Mozu or Lilith show up...
Thanks for the exercise. Made me think about potential merge projects.

Sword - Eirika
Lance - L!Ephraim
Axe - L!Hector/ Raven/ S!Innes, can't really decide
Red Tome - Lyon by far
Green Tome - Literally noone. They are all kinda boring.
Blue Tome - S!Corrin
Bow - Innes
Dagger - Legault
Staff - Don't have any build, but from sympathy alone, Priscilla
Red Dragon - (normal) Y!Tiki
Green Dragon - Myrrh, my best unit by far. I also like my F!Kana.
Blue Dragon - Corrin

Sword: Ike
For a long time, Ike was the cornerstone of my arena team. A!Tiki has since replaced him, but I managed to get him to +4 mostly from random pity breakers. Besides, he fights for his friends.
Red Tome: Arvis
Arvis is the only red tome I regularly use in FEH so he kind of gets this by default. I'm not too attached to his character, but he's got a great little niche in the game.
Red Breath: S!Y!Tiki
Must protecc.
Lance: Valter
I don't dust him off too often these days TBH but he's pretty fun to use. Fjorm is by far my most used lance unit, but her complete lack of characterization is a turn-off.
Blue Tome: Reinhardt
What can I say? He's a monster.
Blue Breath: M!Kana
I haven't built him at all but Nowi's personality kind of annoys me and Corrin is kind of forgettable.
Axe: Walhart
Also haven't built him yet, but he's hands down my favorite character in the entire series.
Green Tome: Nino
My first +10 unit (at 4*) and still a powerhouse.
Green Breath: M!Grima
Fae is a fun unit and all but i don't really know anything about her. Grima wasn't the most interesting villain of FE:Awakening but still pretty impactful.
Bow: Brave Lyn
FE7 was my first Fire Emblem game and Lyn was one of my favorite characters in the game. It helps that she's a powerhouse.
Dagger: NY!Takumi
Takumi gets this by default since he's the only dagger unit I ever invested in.
Staff: Lucius
Lucius is luscious.
Colorless Breath: F!Grima
Big surprise there right?

Well I got to say that this will be fun
Red:
Sword: Xander, I know that in this game he fell from his petestal but I still use him on my main team, in this game and conquest he was a great defensive unit that can be both bait and aggressor and let's be honest his armor and sword are cool af.
Tome:
Got to say it has to be tharja, her bridal forme is so much fun to use and blow stuff up with her flowers and life and death. Her as a character was surprisingly good in my opinion, she tries to let on how she doesn't care but in reality she cares a lot, going through so much work to help others and than acting standoffish and uncaring just so that nobody gets too close is endearing to me.
Dragon:
Tiki, just tiki lol. Both her kid and adult forme are just adorable especially when you realize that adult tiki is still the playfull little kid she's always been. The fact that she didn't let the death of her closest friends way her down and kept moving forward is great.
Blue:
Lance:
Cordelia, she's honestly just awesome with that galeforce, firesweep and drag back. Her character was very great to see in awakening and warriors.
Tomes:
Saias hands down, I don't know much about genealogy so I can't say much about character but in heroes he's great at his debuff job and when I pair him with his dad and Gunthra the enemies just drop.
Dragon:
Corrin, she's been my best unit since I got her as a four star. I've always been a fan of that dark breath even though I know lightning breath is better, I'm also a big fan of corrin as a character I just wish they were displayed better in fates.
Green:
Axes:
P!azura, she's just so great sure she can't attack well but she can make sure the person she sings for will turn the tides, also I like her character and that costume is just so damn nice, that scene and version of lost in thoughts all alone is just phenomenal.
Tome:
Julia, same as said with no game knowledge but in here she's been my dragon/blue destroyer for a long time, I even gave her watersweep so she can kill them with no fear. There's just something about that absent mindness that I like.
Dragon:
Grima, there's no contest. Like corrin once I pulled him he's gotten me so many wins and out of so much that he's replaced Hector a lot of the times on the team, plus having his attack animation is just great.
Colorless:
Bows:
Fallen takumi. I actually didn't mind him in fates in fact he was my main kill guy so he grew on me, his fallen version is fun to use especially when I get his weapon effect going and hit buffed units. I've pretty much kept his base kit plus desperation and he's a lot of gimmicky fun.
Dagger:
Felicia, how can you not love the adorable clumsy maid. The fact that her weapon hits mages hard and hits the lowest defense makes her a great unit, doesn't help that her voice actress does wonders playing her.
Staff:
The adorable cinnamon roll, I loved elise's character and I wish I had a little sister like that. Elise has become my main healer with that monster attack and balm specials, if only mine was +atk -def instead of the +atk -spd I have :(
Dragon:
L!rRobin. Not really fair since she's the only one but I have one so I've got to put it here. She doesn't hit as hard as grima but her dragonskin has been great, I just gave her vantage and the guidence seal and she can perform well no matter what team I put her on. Didnt help that once I got her I S-supported the two fell dragon's lol, they surprisingly work really well together.

Sword - Seth, Classy guy just not sure how I want to build him.
2nd Marth as the buffbot supreme he's the perfect pair for my #1 Lance
R!Tome - H!Nowi
2nd - B!Tharja due to her effectiveness
Lance - Catria, Finally pulled another on todays daily banner as my free summon (+4, still not +Res though...)
2nd Peri all I have to say is "Bye, bye Intestines!"
B!Tome - S!Catria
2nd - S!Corrin
Axe - Barst gave him a Poleaxe so he can put those big ol' arms to use butchering horses.
2nd - Anna, really dissapointed that she didn't get a summer Alt
G!Tome - Veronica The CYL2 version won't be a Green Tome (Hector has to claim green as a DC Armor Axe unit with another version of Armads or it's blasphemy!), but I'm just really excited for her.
2nd Flying Nino as my go to green tome
Dragon - Myrrh Lumping them all together as the selection is small anyway.
2nd Corrin
Dagger - Kagero gave her Savage Blow 6 and has helped me clear many a GHB/LHB
2nd H!Sakura Don't judge me!!!!!!
Bow - S!Gaius
2nd - Rebecca she will probably be my 4th merge project Clarisse's Bow, Death Blow + Watersweep and Phantom speed = Tasty!
Not big on staffs so my favorites here are going to be the most effective supports.
Staff - Maribelle Trilemma paired with a team of Cancel Affinity characters just seems abusive (wonder if the AI would play it right - probably not).
2nd - Bridal Lyn, simply because shutting down counters is crazy strong.
