IV problems
I’m a victim of this myself, but it seems like a lot of people ask questions about IVs, and as of late, people seem to be getting annoyed when those types of questions are asked, why is that exactly? Is someone pulls a -Attack +Res Lon Qu (bad example) and wants to build them, asks a questions about how to build them, why does someone have to attack them and tell them figure it out themselves. Yes, they could probably look at the “optimal” IVs on this site and work off that, but gameptess isn’t the word of god, so instead, help the person out.
I’m sorry I know this was stupid please don’t kill me

I ask a lot of questions about IVs too, especially whenever I’m confused about how to build some units, but I kinda understand why people get annoyed by some of these questions.
I mean...it’s not that hard to look at the unit’s stats before asking what to do - one can find a solution on its own. Though I also understand it can be quite difficult to come up with some good ideas with certain boons/banes and units. I myself asked yesterday what to do with a +RES -ATK L!Lucina as I was kinda confused on how to manage those IVs.
I guess they would like to see new users and people in general coming up with their own ideas and be more creative instead of asking how to build a unit. And to make people understand it’s not mandatory having perfect IVs, units can still work.

I completely agree with you on this one. Also it’s easier for people to ask for advice on the Q&A section since all Gamepress builds are rather expensive and only use perfect IVs (which sucks).
I think a bit of experimenting and understanding how a unit works can help, but of course getting some help is nice.
Though I think people are pissed off by people not even trying to give a unit a more creative build to adapt to their IVs.

Yeah, many FTP units are actually very good with merges and some investment in them, especially with new refines and stuff like that. I’m actually not a big fan of tiers, especially since being Tier 1 doesn’t mean it’s the best unit ever. All those green armors in higher Tiers will basically die against a high attack Armorsmasher user so...it’s dumb.
I believe they should do more FTP builds, instead of having too many builds with rare skills.

Lon'qu is a pretty simple to build imo, as his base skill set is really great with a flashing blade seal and a flexible a utilized for himself or teammate use as well. But I also recommend just doing it. Build him with skills you think will work. Think about the investment value and if you really like the character enough and do it. I've taught my MCorrin tons of skills that people wouldn't normally and all them are valuable depending on what mode I want success in. Trial and error on one character will only help you on the next.

I think I can speak for most of the frequent responders here: we don't mind IV questions precisely, but there are a few things that annoy us. If what I write is too long, read the last point.
- players who get an unconventional bane and instantly assume that the unit is bad. For example, I once answered a question about +def -atk Minerva, and the OP thought this unit was in dire straits. After looking at the statline I liked the IV. -res or -HP was probably preferred, but -atk is pretty easily covered with goad fliers and the big specials she can get out of that weapon. Even a one-round bonfire, which doesn't require heavy blade, will pretty easily compensate for having lower atk.
- players who get an undesired boon and assume that the unit is bad - this one, if you ask me, is even worse, because the bane might be nearly inconsequential, which would leave them with a close-to-neutral IV (ex: +HP -def on flying Nino) and we'll get something like "how do I save her" when we're looking at one of the fastest mages in the game and one of the hardest-hitting without a blade tome. It's disrespectful to the unit.
- players who assume that the unit is bad and then insist on trashing the unit, obviously interested more in their frustration than whatever might be positive about their situation. If you're going to be so mad about a 5* pull, why don't you just get your pity rate up to 18%? It's ungrateful; it reeks of expecting the world to be perfect and shiny and everything going exactly their way all the time.
- NB it's less frustrating for us if the player is interested in using the unit anyways, even if they start out thinking that the unit is in trouble when it isn't
- players who never seem to make any effort to figure out how to build units/teams, what makes an IV good or bad, etc., that is, they seem to expect us to spoonfeed them anything they don't understand, perpetually. It's one thing to be a new player and ask "what in the world am I supposed to do I have no clue what IVs even are let alone what the IVs are on this unit and whether the unit is good"; it's entirely another thing when we open up an asker's GamePress profile and it's six months of nothing but IV questions, all of which read "is she good" and nothing more. And there are such users.
- getting nothing but IV questions. Of course I exaggerate a little here, and it's actually a lot better now than it used to be. But if the whole front page of questions is "I pulled this unit +HP -def so he's trash how should I fodder him" it looks like a herd of unappreciative two-year-olds demanding that the world please them, some of them ready to vomit hate on anyone who wants to point out the good in what they have and help them appreciate and use it. We who answer questions didn't come here to stroke the egos of a bunch of narcissists; we came for interesting discussion. Sometimes it does involve figuring out how to work with sour IVs; sometimes it does involve giving the basics to a new player. We can accept that people need time and opportunity to learn what is possible even with bad IVs. But if all we ever get is unappreciative cranks who insist on everything falling right into place for them, we will weary of it quickly. Or even in general, just too much of IV questions gets a little tiring even if all of them are interesting. Too much of anything gets a bit tiring. If they're all interesting questions from engaged and diligent players it's many, many times more tolerable, but we will still tire of it a bit.
