Interesting unconventional units to promote

So, I'm sitting on 60k feathers and I've literally run out of traditionally good units to spend them on. I have almost 100 five star units but I want to try a new project - maybe a 5* unconventional unit that has a different play style to the standard ones (brave sword/lance/axe, QR defensive, desperation mages, etc).

I already have a huge amount of sword users so they're out. Otherwise, I'm open to suggestions of cool or unusual 4* units to promote.

Ideas welcome!

Oscar. A lot of people write him off, but he's got the best offensive spread of any cavalier lance user who isn't TT/GHB/Legendary.

Make a mage tank Wrys with Fear+, Fortress Res 6, Live to Serve, and Attack Ploy. I am 100% serious. His res will reach 49 with a boon, and effectively 56 if he can ploy his opponent. He won't kill anything, but nothing wielding a tome will be able to kill him. It'll be a fun, but surprisingly effective meme build.
EDIT: Alternatively, you could go with DD 6, but that is a bit too expensive for Wrys. Admittedly, so is Attack Ploy.
EDIT #2: What's with the dislike? I actually made a serious build, god.

Well, if you have a Katarina or Summe Leo for Atk Ploy that you're willing to sacrifice even without it, it'll still be a fun effective build, and Atk Ploy is a seal), go for it!

Technically I could promote an Oliver to 5* for attack ploy 3. The question would be, is this memeworthy Wrys truly worth a 40k feather investment ^^

Report

It's Wrys. Of course he's not worth the investment, but it's a meme build, it shouldn't make sense :)
I forgot Oliver had Atk Ploy, lol

I've been working on Camilla in hopes she gets her own refine someday. She's actually able to hold her own with minimal investment - I'm just using her Brave Axe with Fury and she's been able to take care of many of the dragon threats I've encountered.

Report

Thanks for the suggestion! I had one as one of my first ever 5 stars but I didn't really have much luck using her, I found her pretty underwhelming. Ended up foddering her off for Brave Axe+ to Winter Lissa. Nice idea though!

Report

Admittedly, Brave Axe+ is not the right weapon for Camilla. She doesn't have the offenses to pull it off readily. Her best set is an expensive one, Slaying Axe+ (Res refine) and DC, and usually not worth it when Myrrh does the job so much better and is a more worthy DC investment.

Report

Oh I know it's not optimal, but I have a +atk Camilla and lack real drive to put more into her. The last couple of weeks I decided to use her, since she's got a few merges and could give Hone/Fortify Flier buffs to my Eirika. It was a pleasant surprise to see she could hold her own against dragons. That's all.

Report

Yeah, she's not a bad unit by any means, she just doesn't have any strong points to validate using her over any of the other strong green fliers. I would be pretty concerned if you wasted a Hector on Camilla, lol

Report

She may not be tier 1 or anything, but with a proper build + support Camilla can surprise a lot of people. I ran out of other 4* to promote but had plenty of Camilla to build a 5*+10 so I thought I’d go for it. No regrets here

Report

Disagree here, I think her best bet is Poleaxe. With those perfectly rounded stats she can get really nasty if she cancels out all buffs, hits like a truck and has the defenses to take most attacks.

I just did the Poison Strike Savage Blow build. I did that with A!Tiki when SI came out. It was monstrous in the Arena.
I have no fodder units, or else I would build my Camilla.

Report

The question really isnt what unconventional units are good but...what fodder do you have available to you. Like theres a build with lloyd as a mage tank (reinheart counter )out there but it needs both shield pulse and DC. So we cant really recomend units if we dont really know what fodder you have

Report

Well, technically I don't have any spare distant counters, close counters or steady breaths. I have a few of the lesser used "good" skills for inheritance, such as close defense. But to be honest I'm just hunting for ideas, so I'll disregard them if I can't pull it off with what I have :)

Report

not sure if Morgan (M) is unconventional, but making him incredibly fast, (not even a +spd) he just needs fury, then he'll be a male nino

Report

Just some examples:
Arthur, Camilla, SOPHIA!, Faye (should be 3-4* really...), Donnel, Azama, Sakura
Also consider the rotating GHB guys. The likes of Navarre and Lloyd are rarely used, too.

Report

Healer Gwendolyn makes for a different style of armor emblem core and she's easily found for merges. Great mixed wall as well.

I elect No.
i say make your conventional stuff before having fun w/meme builds, get a good 5*+10 (Effie, Fae, A!Tiki, Sheena) as a base for arena weight before you have fun with meme builds and stuff.

That's like telling someone to go to school, get a job, get married, buy a house, have a family lol. If he doesn't define success the same as you in this game, that's fine!

Golly. I’ve done debuffer/damage chipper Saizo (who is FANTASTIC, btw). I’ve got a Soleil-esque built Laslow, which also works wonderfully.

I’ve seen tanky Beruka and Hinata as well.

I’m wondering who next to jump up myself, and i’m leaning towards Beruka if I can’t get a better Sheena (I always get +spd, -def/Res...)...
