I Want to Build a Normal Henry...

And a Halloween Henry too! I’m mostly just waiting for Halloween to come back around so I can try again with my Halloween Henry (the one I had was terrible and became fodder), so this is more asking about the non vampire one.

His IVs are +Atk -Spd (according to Gamepress that’s ideal!) and I’m thinking of running close counter on him, since I have the fodder for it. Other than that, I know an Owltome is recommended, but I’ve got no idea where to begin with this boy. Suggestions?

I think that the "optimal" build listed here on his hero page is generally a good idea to build towards. He has no speed, so QR is required and atk smoke C skill also helps him tank more stuff in one round.

I'm only kind of unsure about his special. Bonfire means a proc in every fight where he tanks and the enemy doesn't have guard, which overall means that he should be able to deal with his enemy in one round, whereas Ignis triggers in the second encounter upon his initiation (most of the time), but deals devastating dmg.

His atk is so low I prefer the Nogitsune school of Henry, just stack his def super high and go all-in on the special. You get to maybe 30 atk + 12 mt with a boon? I guess that's more than nothing and helps out the special (plus, lots of units have low res) but you will lose your guard and QR more easily. Choice is yours

You're welcome. You've made me strongly consider him someday, which is impressive because I tend to prefer armours for such passive setups.

While I much prefer +Def/Res (superboon), +Atk has it's uses. Should be up there, and your's is also -Spd, which is pretty much the only stat he wants to drop (unless he's solely a melee/physical counter).

If you're getting him CC, you may as well go all the way and get him Owl. It's a whole other level, since he actually gets to do what he's at (tank). +Res allows him to be a mixed tank, which is what I aim for. Best boon, for me. +Atk might work to 1RKO more consistently with Bonfire on top of Atk & Def buffs. It's actually not as useless as I thought it was.

CC Blade is also not a bad idea. He wants to be able to survive, so he prefers the defensive buffs over Atk (since Tactics) can still get him to oneround anyway.

I forgot to mention the rest of his kit...

Guard+QR is a must for me, in Arena. It allows him to not have to worry about stuff like Ayra and Bold Fighter. QR + Close/Distant Def is also a thing. Hell, even Fortress Def isn't a terrible idea. It allows him to get his max double-phased Ignis damage (considering Ignis doesn't go off in one round). For C-slots, I think Atk Smoke and Panic Ploy are both the best. Atk Smoke allows him to fight multiple guys at a time, while Ploy might allow you to counter a few Blade Tomes including some Blues.

Ignis isn't a must unless you want to be flashy and oneshot tanky Blues (requires massive Def stacking, though).

Welcome to the Henry Club, it's nice to have you. :)

Henry, if built for it, can survive a hit from Reinhardt (Nogitsune can tell you more on this, but I can do the best I can).

IVs - For this, I honestly wouldn't even worry about his attack stat, at least not enough to go for an attack boon. His attack is kinda bad, and we'll just have to accept that, so I'd recommend going for a boon in either his defense or resistance, or even his HP if you so choose. Either of the three are fine.

Skills - If you're going with Close Counter for his A skill, then Rauðrowl+ is arguably the best weapon for him. Many will say that Candelabra is better, but that's locked to a seasonal unit that not everyone has access to. His B skill and Seal can be a few different things, and kinda rely on each other. Guard is a good skill for him, allowing him to take hits from units without fear of being blasted by things like Regnal Astra, Black Luna, Glacies, or even Astra. With Guard as his B slot, Quick Riposte can be his Seal, allowing him to double on enemy phase, and charge up his specials faster.

If you wanted to, however, forgo Guard, then Quick Riposte can be the B slot skill, and you can go with something like Close Defense (or Distant Defense if you want to go with a Mixed bulk unit).

His C skill can be a few different things. Panic Ploy is an extremely useful skill that can help him survive hits from units that rely on buffs. He can even survive a Reinhardt if he receives visible buffs and gets Panic'd (again, Nogitsune can tell you more on this subject). You could also go with something like Atk Smoke to help with tanking, or even Infantry Pulse (although I'm a bit iffy on this one, to be honest).

His Special can be either Bonfire or Ignis. I personally prefer Ignis. I'm gonna try to get my Donnel to get Infantry Pulse, thus lowering Ignis' cooldown so he can activate it on the first initiation provided that the enemy doubles him, and even without Infantry Pulse I still prefer Ignis due to how much damage he can do, able to tank hits from units like L!Ephraim and blast him to bits with a nice Ignis to the face.

It really is. I've brought him in Arena and there have been many times where Guard would've saved him from being torn to shreds. I have mine running Quick Riposte + Close Def, but I'm contemplating switching it to at least Guard 2 and Quick Riposte Seal.

I’ve been in the Henry club since the beginning, techincally, I just had an awful build for him. That I lost somewhere. Whoops?

But I appreciate the help. I think I’ll hold off from building since I can afford to wait until I get a +Def Henry.

+Res is his best boon ee-mo, unless you feel like you'd need more of a physical tank. +Atk works best when you buff stack Atk/Def so he can oneround consistently with Bonfire. +Def/Res probably works pretty well with a Blade Tome if you feel Owl Tome is too "exclusive" or rare...all this assuming Close Counter of course.

He's actually not as linear as people- or I make him out to be. I thought Owl Tome is the only real way to use him. While it's his best set, the ones I mention should work. Wolf tomes if you want a simple horse (including Lyn) counter. He even works as somewhat of a budget and solid ranged counter. He beats pretty much every ranged matchup assuming they're running buffs.

As of now, Henry’s team consists of Arthur (built to heal himself and share his health with the team) and Azura (Built as offense support) and the gaping hole is there until Miriel is finally in the game. Hence why I’m cool with waiting for a Des or Res boon Henry to plop in my lap before building.

For now, his job is more or less making out to be standing inbetween his team and the sharp pointy sticks they can’t handle and melting said sticks when his special triggers.
