Let's contrast and compare here.

Laevetain, Laegjarn and Hellbindi had their banner, and theyre OC;s. Why were they not hated?

We had some attachment. We got to see Hellbindi be kind and actually do something good. We got to see Laegjarn's good side and we got to see that Laevetain could possibly change and be good for once. This added some attachment to us, and even with the duel skills introduced, we liked them because they had some form of personality.

Now comes this banner.
2 units, great pull rate, great skills, but why the hate?
Well, let's do this again. Surtr was a force of nature type antagonist. A antagonist that had less reasons to be bad than Ashnard(which is bad), and even Grima who is a god of death holds more philosophical logic for his actions than this nerd. People disliked him, and so I guess they have no attachment to them. And then we get Ylgr, who spoke about as many lines as she could, and not even all of them were Ylgr, it was Loki. We got to see nothing of her personality, and she did nothing for the story nor fostered any likeability outside of the few scenes we got to see of the real here, which was her being said over Fjorm.

TLDR; This to me is probably because nobody but a select few wanted them. People will pull for fodder, but I'm sure that the majority could truly care less for them. Nothing made us love them, so nothing will make us love them now. Not even Forging Bonds IMO.

Wait we're getting a forging bonds on this? Tf is Surtr gonna say? Some garbage about wanting to become friends with the summoner or something?

He's probably gonna talk about conquest and how we're controlling him with our spells but that if we let our guard down that he'll cut us to ribbons.

My point exactly. I forgot Hrid existed too. Like, this banner (and potentially this GHB) could be story characters we never even get to see again since we're moving on from Nifl to something else. XD

I am only salty because of surtr weapon, stance 4 and C skill.
that ylgr kid have a nice skill set, but nothing actually that great of deal.
the adaptive damage is nice, but pretty specific to activate anyways.

but nothing beat +8 def and guard.

More like people hype up their own expectations of what the banner will be, and then when it isn't, they get all pissy and "OMG WORST BANNER EVER". Meanwhile, look at the Adrift banner. Everyone was hating on that banner at first, and now look. Everyone's going nuts over Adrift male Corrin and his "broken" B skill, and the paralogue was probably the single best story telling we've gotten in Heroes. We may get a similar story telling again with this paralogue, maybe a set up for what Book III will bring, and Ylgr's A skill will definitely be one for experimenting with, and expect lots of bulky units to abuse Surtr's Steady Stance 4 skill.

The adrift banner was fine. Nobody likes the slut called Camilla.

Yeah that's the entire issue, not Adrift. People didn't mind the story, or the skills, people just hate on Camilla cause 6 alts and her character is devisive to say the least.

I mean, it's not all of that. We literally got a unit that has a weapon that can deal 20 free damage every turn to anyone and everyone that's not on his team and is near him.

Not only that, but no one gives a flying crap about Ylgr, and Surtr is probably even less interesting of a character than Loki.

The way I look at it, at least Loki is hyping something up. Alolan Ganondorf is just "EVERYTHING MUST DIE AND EXPLODE HAHAHAHAHAHA" and we then killed him.

Her bouts of whimsical chaos are interesting, at least. Makes you wonder if she's just insane or if she actually has a plan.

I think of her as a shittier Joker from the Batman comics. She's crazy, and does insane shit. But she may just be trying to pull something far too crazy.

I've actually been thinking of her as just putting on that facade but actually has way more sinister motives that will suck for all of us.

But then again I read a lot of books with plot twists so i'm still in that mindset lol

So am I and since Surtr was a literal depiction of his mythological form, if this Loki is 1/8th of what original mythological Loki does. She's gonna get alot of people killed and she's gonna jumpstart Ragnarok or something. So this one could really be one hell of a bad guy given time.

Yeah but he got killed in book one of Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard so he has to suck here too right?

What? Are we talking about the same Loki here? Sure, he can die but he fakes his death a million times, and he even has kids with wolves and giants, and I think his son is Odin's mount?

Anyway, unsure if we're talking about the same Asgardian God of fuckery XD

Real reason for salt: TFW no Tellius Magvell or Jugdral

Oh come now, Jugdral has been doing just fine.

It really has. Going from having barely anyone to having the myriad of units it has now, it's doing great.

I think 6's Elibe is the one that's crying the hardest at this point.

I'm sure the whales are pissing their pants over Surtr right now for how good he looks to be with his base kit, an Axe that deals a flat 20 dam every turn, an A skill that has a no hp threashold Guard on it on top of +8 Def, hard to get one shotted do to his b skill, a C-Skill that acts as a self Veronica staff to him while lowering the stats of every unit within 2 spaces which will also get hit with 20 damage because of his axe, if that isn't powercreep I don't know what is, and with him being the first 3rd Gen Armored unit it wouldn't surprise me if he also had 180 bst (L.Tiki is different since she has that trainee bst)

Who said he's Gen 3? We don't even have his stats yet, hold your horses there pal XD

He probably will or at least have 176~178 bst.

Well seeing that the Adrift banner had Gen 3 Dragons I don't see why he wouldn't be Gen 3 bst

Cause we got a Legendary Hero that's a dragon and armored and she was 179, and if she wont go overboard yet, then he wont.

I'm still calling him being the first Gen 3 armored unit, the fact that A Corrin's have 4/5 bst over Gen 1 Y.Tiki with all other gen 2 inf Dragon having either tied or lower bst with M.Kana Being Only 1 Bst over, if that isn't the start of Gen 3 bst units I don't know what would, sure not all the units from the Adrift banner had gen 3 bst but the Corrin's definitely had gen 3 bst

And also L.Tiki was 180 not 179

True but still. 180 with her having the bonus or whatever its called that adds bst to a character. That in itselfis an exception. I'd be willing to say that he's going to me similar to Halloween Myrh.

So you mean 179 bst that doesn't really help seeing that it would still be 4 bst higher than W.Lissa, Hardin, and LA.Eliwood who has the highest bst outside of L.Tiki and H.Myrrh, which would still make him a Gen 3 Armored unit since Myrrh also gets trainee bst

Also assuming my math is right like I did with AF.Corrin, Surtr has either 39 or 43 Def in which case that's already 89/93 bst just in 2 stats alone since we already know he has 50 hp

Well, they liked the other OC's. They just dislike these. Not sure they hate the cast itself since the story has been getting promising as of late. XD

I like Surtr and Ylgr. Surtr axe is pretty dumb so thats gonna be fun. Ylgr comes from a land of boring boring boring boring snow so thats a plus. I have absolutely nothing to add to anything of people's quarrels with banners. I just see the units, think about if they will be fun to use and sometimes try to pull from them.

I mean hey, you do you my guy. Sending some positive vibes, something people don't have enough of.

I’m surprised with this banner with 2 units in, never thought I’d ever see something like this. Ylgr isn’t our infantry colourless dragon and Surtr doesn’t have Vengeful Fighter as he literally has it on him in mostly every single time we encounter him in the story. But an offensive looking Blue dagger unit looks kinda neat.
