(Warning, this is long and my idea is a dream scenario, but I wish it comes true)
TL;DR: I wish they add a new currency that adds merges to heroes, not change IV's. I share my thoughts about the idea below. Am I asking too much wishing this to be true one day?
I notice the more I play this game, I hate the current merge heroes system. I do not mind spending thousands of feathers to promote a character to 5 stars and merging them up, but I do have a problem with summoning the same hero multiple times just for merging and you can go on a drought summoning that particular hero if you are on a merge project. It is even worse with 5 star exclusive heroes because you are generally better off foddering them to other heroes because they have amazing skills and the chances of you getting that character to +10 is unrealistic without saving for months or opening the wallet. It is shame for people that want to make a +10 Hector or Takumi, but it makes no sense to merge them and not give DC or CC to other heroes that either need it for arena, or help complete a build. Also, with the current changes to the summoning pool, it is actually harder to get multiple copies of a character you are looking for because of variance.
With my frustration in mind, I have a suggestion that can make merging heroes easier and not be screwed over by hero droughts. People have wanted a way to change IV's on heroes they summon in order to make them optimal. I am personally against this because it defeats the purpose of summoning and diversity in unit building (even though it sounds appealing). Instead, how about Nintendo adds a new currency that adds a merge to any hero (even the Askr trio). Here are my pros and cons list to my general idea of having an item that increases merges.
Pros
1. Gives everyone a chance to use their favorite heroes in arena instead of the more common heroes. I am not saying the 3-4-star heroes are bad in any way (I use Sheena and she is great substitute for Winter Lissa), it is just they might not be people’s favorite characters and I believe one of FEH’s main appeal is to use your favorite characters to clear any challenge the game throws at you.
2. You can have an easier time foddering off 5-star heroes for their skills to other heroes, especially if your first copy of that hero is optimal IV’s. You have a choice to merge the heroes and save the new currency or use the new currency to add the merge and send the extra copy to another hero for the skill.
3. You must summon for the hero if you want optimal IV’s. The new currency only adds merges, not change IV’s. Making the player summon for IV’s pushes the incentive to continue summoning.
4. The currency works for every hero in the game. The Askr Trio, GHB’s, and Tempest Trials heroes are no longer stuck being liabilities in arena scoring or long-term potential because their merges are capped at less than 10. I believe this change can truly help any character be viable and competitive and fewer people will be upset if their favorite character becomes a Tempest Trial reward.
5. If implemented properly, the new resources should not make feathers pointless. Unless IS gives out the potential to add about 10 merges a month with the currency, you can still use feathers on heroes for merges if you have the copies sitting in your barracks and have the resource be solely used on Legendary Heroes, 5-star exclusive heroes, or heroes with limited copies. They could introduce a new game mode where you can farm for the resource or gain it with a usage of a hero like hero merit, but that is for another day.
Cons
1. This change might tick off a bunch of people that spend thousands of dollars already to have their +10 heroes, but I think it is a fine compromise because you are spending money to have a hero reach +10 immediately while grinding for feathers, saving orbs, and adding my new currency are long term achievements.
2. Some may wonder why summon for a hero if we can just use the new currency. I believe you can still summon for the same hero for either skills, better IV’s, or speed up the rate of merges. For most people that play for a while, you really do not summon for new heroes anymore unless it is for skills, favorite characters not in the game yet, or arena purposes. You do not need every character in the game to beat every game mode.
Does my idea sound crazy to everyone, or something reasonable? I am open for any feedback. I do not believe they will ever do this, but I can only dream.
