+HP -res Sigurd? Smash or Pass?

Pulled a Sigurd on my free summon! I don't have a copy of him so I'll definitely be milking his HM, but is there any point in keeping him? He's got good skills, that's for sure, but both Joshua and Fallen Takumi are coming soon so I'm not sure if I should throw him away so readily. I have a couple daggers that I want to build up soon (Kagero and PA!Olivia when I get a good IV on her), both of whom appreciate Windsweep on a few of their sets, and since we're only getting two Joshuas... I was thinking of giving Close Def to Ares. Is it worth it, or should I hold on to Sigurd for a bit?

"but is there any point in keeping him?"

Well, he can take magical hits to the face and actually live to tell the tale.

Divine Tyrfing reduces the first hit by 50% if foe is using a tome. Not only that, but Crusader's Ward reduces the second hit onward (I guess in case we ever get more Brave tomes for other colors?) by 80%. Even with a res bane, he can tank magical hits really well.

He can't tank a hit from someone like Reinhardt, I don't think, but he can tank.

My comment was surely a false one, when you think about it, but I kind of implied that I didn't really have a use for a red cavalier. With that said, your points are more than valid -- his niche is a potent one. I'll probably end up holding on to him for AA, at the very least.

He's basically immune to magic so he really does have a niche with his great physcial bulk and his skills letting him survive much more than he should. In the TT where blue Olwen was a bonus unit with the extra stats, I met him and he survived 2 hits from a fully buffed Blarblade+ with Iceberg. He's worth considering and if your farming HM you'll see how he performs.

That's actually a good IV for exploiting Divine Tyrfing + Crusader's Ward. 1 HP = 2 res on the first hit and 5HP on the second. One of the rare cases where +HP is preferable even when getting doubled.

Plus, his physical tanking just improved a wee bit.

Conclusion: good IV, though probably not optimal
