So I recently pulled a Summer Gauis with +atk and -hp and I’m not sure how to build him. I really like Gauis so I wanted to make him a good unit but wanted to make him unique like giving him a guard bow and close counter. Any suggestions on how I should build him.
Close counter is wasted on Gaius. You'd do better with distant defense or a bond skill (combined with that guard bow) if you really want an enemy phase build. It's better if he's excellent at ranged fighting than being an underwhelming close counter hero who''d be mediocre at melee tanking and sort of good at ranged tanking.
With that boon he has 33/37 offensive stats so I know it's not super original but it's hard not to advocate for a Firesweep or Quad Brave Bow build. Especially with only 31 HP and and 19 DEF I really wouldn't recommend Close Counter.
If you're looking for a semi-unique build you could try a Slaying Bow (+Spd), Ardent Sacrifice, Moonbow, Life and Death (or Fury or Swift Sparrow), and Desperation. That way when he's in Desperation range he can activate Moonbow on his second hit, and it takes advantage of his pretty decent speed.
He’s basically a better brave bow user than Setsuna, and i would say Cordelia because of his innate speed. I run brave bow with LnD on mine and he’s good. He’s not my go to archer, but if I want to change things up I use him every once in a while.BUT. Yours has really good ivs. Minus hp allows him to do some special things. You can run a fury build on him that uses his Icecream bow. Run fury and then you can make use of his Def Ploy because he’ll have 31 res. With fury and -hp and the -2 hp from his bow, he’ll be in desperation mode after one round of combat. You can run heavy blade as a sacred seal if you’re going to use attack buffs on him because he’ll have 48 atk with fury and his bow, 50 attack when he has full hp because of his bows effect. After the one round of combat he’ll basically be a pseudo brave bow but with more damage but cant quad. You can run heavy blade and moonbow so he always procs moon bow, or even glimmer. -hp is a really good bane for summer gaius. I attached a build the build i mentioned so you can visualize it. Of course this build only works when he has no merges, but seasonal units are rare anyways. With 33 hp and -8 hp from fury and the bow, he just gets in the 75% hp range with a refined bow.
