How and when to start stockpiling orbs?

How - How do you have the strength to hold onto you orbs? This can be never spending them at all or only spending a certain amount? What drives you to do that?

When - When should I start? Is there a good or bad time? Like I get that the FH banner has some interesting units, but after I spent ~90 orbs I instead got an extra Myrrh and now think I already have a solid selection of units to use for now. But would it be a bad idea to just save now? When would I have to consider spending again? What drives you to start spending again or will make you spend when it comes around?

I apologize for the lengthy question and if it seems as though I'm rambling. I'm very curious and want to try to save up orbs, but wasn't sure how people did it or when would be a good time to start.

Just wait until you find someone super unique worth rolling everything for. That's also crazy lucky for you to get a non-focus pull Myrrh but like for example I stockpiled a bunch of orbs and spent them all try to get grima robin and it worked out fine in the end. I also saved for spring camilla and vanguard ike. Some banners may be cool but if you don't really need the unit and they don't bring something gamebreaking to the table like thani for example then wait it out :)

The thing is, I think the fallen robin brings something very interesting to the table. So on one hand, I feel like I'd miss out. But on another, I also have more than enough green units that would fill a similar role on a team. Myrrh in particular would be similar and is more mobile and flexible. Also, he would be added to the pool so I could potentially get him down the road, like how I lucked out with Myrrh.

But I dunno.

Yeah he's actually really similar to Myrrh I would say he trades mobility for DC but if he becomes Meta more and more people will run dragon counters and he would face originals hectors problem of lagging behind and getting ganged up on

Once you get past 100 it's a lot easier.

There's not really secret techniques for saving, it all just comes down to exercising your own willpower and not pulling on impulses. Make a list of units you want the most, maybe 10 at max. When a new banner comes out, compare the units on the list to the ones on the banner. Don't pull at all if you're not 100% sure about a banner.

While I love Grima and Celica, none of the units on FH are ground-breakingly good to be honest, especially since Myrrh exists already. They're good fodder, but I think it's more important to get the actual characters you want first.

Anytime is a good time to start saving. Start today if you want.

I mean... I'm personally not interested in Hardin since I have no attachment to his character. But to be honest, no matter how OP a character seems they're going to be powercreeped in a few months max lol

How can I make a list of units I want, since they role out new units that weren't in the game before, and the new ones are constantly better and better... Since i started playing I couldn't make a list with Hardin, G.Robin, NY.Azura, Myrrh, Winter Tharja and so on. Even if you get the unit you want they shortly make an almost identical one who is a little stronger.
It's f*cking hard xD

How: Make a goal. Tell yourself, "I ain't summoning until I hit 300!" Also, remind yourself, just cuz so and so got Grobin in 60 orbs, doesn't mean that you will. It might cost 150 until you get a 5*. And that 5* might not even be a focus unit. You could be stuck with Merric.

When: Now. You should always be saving your orbs, especially if the banners feel like bait. Also, they're being generous with orbs rn, might not be this way for a while.

Report

How much time do you need to save up 300 orbs?
The most fun for me is getting new units and building them up. So if I play a prolonged time without it I fear I'l lose interest in the game and stop playing. And even if we get some free units from ghb or tt, to fill this time, I can't build them up without good skills, how do I get fodder units...by summoning.

Report

If the units are New/Seasonals that means there's going to be new Story/Paralogue maps related to them and most of the time I use these orbs to do a full summoning session. If the pity rate is high enough I pull until I get a 5*, once I got one that means no more pulls in that banner, even if I get pity broken by a non-focus. Sometimes it's only the free summon and that's it.

If they have something that makes my current team stronger then I would consider pulling but every once in a while, I avoid mass summons unless it's a Legendary Banner or Hero Fest. Also, if I have the chance I summon in the last day they're up in case I change my mind later and I have an orb limit, if I say I'm going to use 20 orbs, I'm going to use only these orbs.

New Heroes are added to the Summoning Pool, that means there's a chance to be pity broken by them with some being demoted and Seasonals return in Legendary Banners and there's a chance they get a re-run in the future.

I consider these things when new banners are announced and I use the Event Schedule to see which banners sound good, how many events give orbs as rewards, TTs and VGs, possible log-in bonus, their duration, quests… I try to predict the number of orbs I will have at the end of a month and that motivates me because I know the rewards will be good if I'm patient. Once I have everything planned and I'm satisfied with my pulls, then I stockpile my orbs because I know I don't have the need to use them. It's never too late to save orbs, even if you get one per day once you reach 100, you know it was worth the wait and patience.

Willpower is key. But don’t ask people like me who crumple at the sight of shiny new units and a world of possibilities. I was doing really well until the herofest banner dropped and I fell off the wagon. I dumped 200 into LA and didn’t get a single focus unit. I said I’d stop quick on fallen heroes and ended up dropping 60, although it gave me a shiny new Hardin. Look at the banners coming up and make a plan, and stick to said plan.

there was a time where id pull everytime id get 20 orbs. I was constantly on the search for getting 'good' units when I didn't just take some time to look at my barracks and invest into some units I already have. its a really shitty way to play the game

now Im really disciplined on pulling and I pull for units I need. currently, I desperately need one more solid armor and probably 2 more cav units. so I usually wait for legendary banners/hero fest or if I run into a banner that has a unit I need, then ill go ahead for it.

Report

There's no single answer to that XD

But I guess pull a character with the movement type and color that you need to build your team. E.g. in my case I won't be pulling another cavalry unless it completely powercreeps one of my horses as I already have a 4 horse core (that will mainly work in quests, GHB and TT as their BST is quite low).

For the FH banner, Celica was out of the question as I'm overflowing with infantry swords and haven't really build them well. My armor team is still incomplete and I very much needed a good green. A 4* Sheena is ready to be promoted in my barracks but then a Grima Robin popped out with a good IV and I know at that time that I should stop pulling.

Consider spending more on legendary banners and hero fest because those units usually have more presence in the Arena (quite sad because it somewhat punishes you for pulling favorite units that aren't that good in Arena).

But if there's a unit you really, really, really like, get him/her. Consider that a reward for yourself XD for me, I will snipe every Takumi that appears in this game.
