Hopes for Smash 5?

Hey guys! So, I was inspired to make this thread by a small conversation I was having with FreezShocka and Mike in another thread.

So, for those of you who don't know (and really, have you been living under a rock?) we are getting a new Super Smash Bros game on the Switch this year, and there is so much hype surrounding it, So I'd like to hear some people's thoughts, predictions, and wishlists. They can be FE oriented, or have nothing to do with Fire Emblem.

So, personally, I would like to see Corrin cut. As fun as he was to play, I just don't like Corrin as a character, and think that his spot could be given to a more deserving FE representative. I also want to see Lucina become a simple skin of Marth, not because I don't like her, but people in the Smash community (myself included) have kind of gotten tired of clone characters, like Lucina, Dark Pit, or Doctor Mario. Finally, I want to see Robin removed, and I'll say why soon.

For FE additions, I think Hector has more than earned his spot. For one, he place #1 in CYL 2, and would have a similar playstyle to bulky characters like Ike or Ganondorf. He's also not a sword unit, which is a huge plus at this point. I also think Lyn should get the bump from assist trophy to playable. Haven't we proven that we like Lyn more than Corrin? So why should Corrin stay as a representative from a game that is divisive in the community instead of a generally well liked character? She could play a bit like Link, using both her sword and bow. Finally, I think Celica would make a fantastic replacement for Robin as the magic-melee hybrid character (but, please don't give her the gimmicky weapon durability thing this time). Robin has outlived his time as a Smash rep, and was not the good or popular in Sm4sh, so I think it's time her gives up his spot for other characters. As for other possible additions, Alm and Ephraim seem like they have a decent shot at making it in.

For non-FE characters, I think Ice Climbers and Wolf should make a return. Ice Climbers were even coded into the Wii U version, but were cut because the 3DS couldn't handle them. I don't even know why Wolf was cut in the first place, tbh, He was actually good, and people liked him. Snake is not coming back, end of story.

I think Wii Fit Trainer died with the Wii U, and will be cut from this game. I also think the Miis are dead, so they're gone too. Rosalina might be cut just based on the fact that she isn't relevant anymore, same goes for Lucario and Jigglypuff (I know she's a Smash 64 rep, but she is not close to being a relevant character anymore). Deucidye (idk if I spelt it right) could replace either Pokemon rep. I also think Bayonetta is either nerfed into the shit tier or gone, also Cloud and Ryu may also be cut (in the same fashion as Snake). Little Mac could also end up replaced by an Arms rep.

As for new additions, I already mentioned Deucidye and an Arms character. I also think Rex and Pyra/Mishra from Xenoblade 2 could make it in. Ridley, anyone? In the first Metroid, he was only a bit bigger than Samus. Please? As for third party, Shovel Knight, Crash Bandicoot, and Banjo-Kazooei duo (maybe replace Duck Hunt?) would be cool.

Woah. That was way longer than expected or intended, but I guess I just got a lot of thoughts on the new Smash. How about you guys?

EDIT: I forgot about Travis Touchdown. he would be an awesome addition to the game.

So, I'm gonna answer based on the title and not the content, I haven't read it yet, sorry! I'll go back in a moment. Edit: Ok, I did read it! Also, sorry I made this so long :(

Personally, I'd like for them to just take the entire cast of smash 4 and add a few others. My main was Cloud (don't hate me) with secondaries Roy and Lucina (sometimes Marth). I really liked the cast aside from a few duplicate characters, notably Dr. Mario. I'd also maybe cut Duck Hunt, because I didn't really feel like he fit in smash bros that well. I'd love for them to add Ephraim because I think he would be so at home in smash.

I like Final Fantasy, so I have a few ideas for that too. I'd love to see Noctis and Lightning in Smash, but with Noctis going to Tekken (super hyped for that), I don't imagine he'd also be in the new smash. Lightning perhaps though. I could definitely see her being put in, but it probably won't happen. I haven't played too many new games recently from Nintendo since I don't have a Switch yet, but I'll be getting one soon. I'm super hyped for the new Smash! (I'm not too good though :c)

Edit: You do make a good point about Robin. I really like Robin as a character, but I didn't have a lot of fun playing him... I'm generally a fan of fast, offensive characters, so he really didn't fit my playstyle. I do like him as a smash character though, I think he has his own niche and it's fun to play against him. Celica would definitely make a good fit as a smash character though, but maybe not Alm? I don't really want to see any more sword characters from FE, as much as I do love them. I'd love to see other characters from the series get some love, hence why I'd really like Ephraim and Hector to be introduced as characters. I feel like they'd fit so well!

I also don't really understand why Wolf was cut, but Dr. Mario and Dark pit made it in. Wolf seemed to be a pretty unique character from Fox and Falco, I enjoyed playing against him.

I was so sad to see Snake go, I love MGS :( I would love to see him come back, but like you said, it's probably never going to happen. I really hope all the DLC characters get to stay though. Ryu is super fun to play against and I actually playing against Bayonetta, it's pretty fun! Although, I only tried my hand in two tournaments locally and didn't play online a lot, so I'm not too familiar with the competitive scene.

I want Ephraim in smash lol, but I know it's not gonna happen. I'm gonna miss green Link in smash, but BOTW Link is the face of the switch. Rex better be there. And BOTW Zelda might I think.

Yeah, they should keep Marth, Ike, Roy, Lucina, and add Ephraim. I can't see Cloud being cut as there will be an FF7 remake. Maybe Noctis will be added?

Corrin may be cut, but I think you're off base with your guesses. Alm/Celica are definitely the most likely additions. I'm sure Nintendo isn't looking to advertise a game that died years ago. The only reason Roy, Marth, and Ike are still relevant is that they've been in Smash games before.
Lucario and Gren probably won't make it and I imagine the 7th gen addition being decidueye as well. Jiggs will probably stay, she's an icon.
Bayonetta's definitely staying (Bayo 3), and I have a sinking feeling she'll be just as busted.
Cloud will probably stay and I agree on Little mac being replaced by an ARMS character (I'm thinking it'll be Spring Man with Ribbon Girl as an alternate, and maybe a villain from the game).
I imagine some Xenoblade 2 characters will make it in, but I also think Shulk will stay.
I seriously doubt Ridley will make it, and Shovel Knight and Crash are very shaky picks (Banjo Kazooie is not happening).

I want alm, celica, vanguard ike outfit, bandana waddle dee, maybe the askran trio? Probably not but who knows, those are all who i want, i've pretty much just played nintendo games my whole life so i'm not THAT branches out, bandana waddle dee is my hughest hope though

Marth and Ike seem like locks for Smash 5. Lucina I'll lean a likely yes. At worst, she becomes like Alph as a playable skin with alternate lines. She's too popular and, let's be honest, has become as much a face of the series as Marth and Ike. Roy makes sense too, if for nothing else than his B moves are still fan favorites.

I think Robin and Corrin will be out. The avatars had their moments, and though I loved Robin, I can see them wanting to give new characters love from the series. Hard to say if they lean more on CYL voting for the new picks, or if they'll use Smash to market new FE lords whenever the Switch title drops. Worked for Roy, Ike and Corrin previously as a role.

Other than that, I know Luigi is in, so good there. Fox and the Cap are OG members, so they should be back. If I get Lucina back and Wolf returning, my main 5 are set. Ike will always be for fun, though whether we get Buff Ike or not will be interesting. Gimme Robin too and I will likely have no complaints.

About Fire Emblem characters, I think Marth and Ike will be there but I don't know about Roy and the others. It would be interesting if they announce the new Fire Emblem game and its protagonist debuts there just like Roy did in Melee or at least make the cut. I can see Celica as a playable character since she would play like Zelda (I think) and she's #1 in CYL2, Echoes helped a lot to increase her popularity in the west. Hector is a strong choice since The Blazing Blade was the first FE game released internationally and he won CYL2 too.

About non-FE characters, I agree the Ice Climbers should and will make a return. About Wolf I'm not so sure, he felt like a Fox/Falco clone, even the same Final Smash, probably DLC. Ness/Lucas and Captain Falcon deserve a new game and Greninja is out. Bayonetta is still there since Bayonetta 3 is in development exclusively for the Switch, Cloud and Ryu are out, too.

About newcomers, I actually had a conversation with my brother when the teaser was shown and we agreed Decidueye would be there, since it is the Pokémon representing the 7th Generation (Sun/Moon/US/UM, also appearing in Pokkén Tournament DX), an Arms character is taking Little Mac's place and someone from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will appear. For me, Crash Bandicoot will be there, the N. Sane Trilogy was announced for Switch and he's a character widely recognized and loved. Also Bomberman, since he's a classic.

A character I think has a good chance to be included is Travis Touchdown (No More Heroes). Every game was released exclusively on a Nintendo console (except the first one since they made a PS3 port) and Travis Strikes Back is coming to the Nintendo Switch. Also, If if recall correctly Suda51 wanted Travis to be on Smash, asking Nintendo about that. Hideo Kojima did the same and Snake appeared in Brawl, Travis has a chance to be there.

So going into this, I’m just gonna say that I honestly don’t mind clone characters. They don’t actually take up character slots like people claim, and some of my favorite characters have been clones (Falco, Wolf, Roy, Dark Pit, you get the idea). I think it really only becomes an issue when there’s almost no differences between the characters (AKA Dark Pit and Pit literally only having 3 differences between them). So I really wouldn’t mind seeing Lucina return as a character instead of a skin. I know some people have begun to argue that Lucina is superior to Marth just due to her KO consistency compared to Marth’s, so she has that going for her.

I know a lot of people in the smash community were upset when Corrin was announced because they were getting tired of these sword characters. Because of this, I have a feeling that if we do get any more FE characters, they won’t be sword wielders. Hell, Chrom was cut from being a potential fighter cause Sakurai thought he would be too similar to Ike. Lyn and Alm aren’t that likely imo. I could see Robin making the cut again, if only because his playstyle is very different from the other FE fighters.

I could honestly see Hector making it only if Blazing Blade were to receive a remake like Gaiden. Robin and Lucina were added just due to the incredible success Awakening saw. Corrin was added to promote Fates. Those characters came from games that were, at the time, recent entries in the series. I don’t see any old lords getting chosen as fighters. Celica would be interesting to see though.

I hope that they don’t try replacing Little Mac. He’s a classic Nintendo character, and this is fighting game for crying out loud! Why would you remove an actual boxer from a fighting game? I could see an Arms character being added, but I also can’t really see them fitting into the roster?

In the Pokémon department, Decidueye could be interesting to see. I like Lucario, and I think he’s unique enough not to get cut. Same for Greninja, and both are popular Pokémon.

As for newcomers, I want the Zekenator from Xenoblade 2. I know that Rex is more likely, but damnit Zeke would be so much fun to play as. Besides that, I really want to see a Persona character in the roster, even if it wouldn’t make sense or be difficult to implement. Persona did receive an entry on the 3DS, so it is possible. Give me my pimp lord Yu Narukami with Izanagi and I’ll be happy.

I'm fearful for my main (Toon Link.) If he doesn't return, I'll still have one viable competitive character in Ness. Jigglypuff is my third character, and while I'm good with her, outside of Melee I've never won a tournament with her.

I'm hoping for them to cut many of the roster. Sm4sh was TOO big. FE and Mario have too many characters representing the franchise. Take it back to Marth and Ike, leaving room for one more. SoV or FE 16 would be best.

Change Mario's set to match Odyssey. Let Luigi keep his. Bowser can stay. They need to eliminate Peach or Yoshi one, and get rid of every other Mario character. This will be a great help in closing those giant numbers. This will make balancing so much easier.

Link needs to play drastically different, much how I hope for Mario. With all the awesome things BotW Link can do, I'm hoping they get creative. This, in turn, will hopefully keep TL in the game. I seriously will die inside if he gets cut. :( Cut Zelda. I'd rather her than Sheik for diversity, but Sheik is just too popular.

For new characters, there are several I'd like to see, but it'd take great consideration before I'd actually mention any.

For the Fire Emblem cast for Smash, id say take out Corrin despite my use for that character and replace em with either Tiki or Myrrh, id say 4 characters from any game series will be better off. Keep Robin cause he was the only FE character without a counter and he was fun to play as. Keep Ike due to his heavy hitting potential. And have Marth/Lucina as one character due to there similar play style, like they did in melee with Sheik and Zelda, you were able to choose which one to play as first. I doubt Roy will make it back thanks to the popularity with Ike and Roy also had a few moves that copied Marths/Lucina (B sides)(Counter)(B up, allthough it was a muti hit move), only his B was original.

Other than that we will see how this goes, really pumped to put some hours in smash, hopefully this will have better internet connection with a mobile hotspot as well for multiplayer

Well I know that the next games roster will disappoint me since I want Smash to go a direction that it never will as long as Sakurai makes the games.

I would rather go back to a reeaally small roster like Smash 64 had, I'd like to have less than 20 characters, and I want to remove the current Fire Emblem characters besides Marth, and instead add Dozla, Nephenee, Sothe, Alm or Celica.
Not necessarily all of these characters, I just think that they add a new play style that Sakurai hasnt tried to add yet.
