Help a newbie with his first skill inheritance.

I’ll try to be brief. So I’ve been playing for like 3 weeks or so, Myrrh was among my first summons (-hp +spd) love her as a character and didn’t expect her so it was great. My friends say I’ve been lucky with my summons, but I feel like they have been mostly tanky frontliners (Zelgius, L Ephraim, Dorcas, free L Ike etc.) Current main team is Zelgius, Fjorm, Myrrh and a 4* Priscila who is my main option for my first unlock potential. I’m liking it, is the more balanced I could get with what I have without been slayed by magic users so I went to the counter abilities banner hoping for a DC for Myrrh and…

Got +def –res Hector and +atk –def Takumi.

I don’t know if I should kill him. I love Myrrh as a character and was among my first summons so I was willing to fodder Hector since the love abounds banner (but didn’t get him then)… but those IV… but I don’t really need him. Similar with Takumi, I have ideas for close counter… but those IV, although I don’t have anything to invest in him other than a vantage from a bad 4* Reinhardt.

So… to the slaughter? Or save for later?

Depends. Are you planning to build an armor emblem team? If not, fodder him off for Myrrh because she's amazing with DC. As for the Takumi, save him until you get fodder or wait for a unit who can make use of the Close Counter.

You're new still so flexibility > singular built units. When I first started I thought I'd never make a horse team because "everyone did that" back then and I wanted to be edgy and "different". Then I ended up pulling Gunnthra and Sigurd at one point and said "WELP GUESS IM DOING THIS NOW". Who knows maybe at some point you'll pick up a Hardin and then suddenly you want that Hector for an armor team.

Report

You are right, I haven't fodder anything because of that, waiting 'till I have more units and see what I can do but you know, pictured the unit with DC. It's a real struggle haha.

Report

Keep Hector. He's still an amazing unit, and those IVs aren't terrible.

You should focus on amassing as many strong 5-Star units as you can since you are new. You never know when he might be useful in Arena Assault, Rival Domains, Chain Challenges, etc.!

Report

As a newbie, you should focus more on getting as many 5 stars as possible to have more flexibility. Gone are the days of the mentality of only needing a team of 4 5 stars, with modes like Arena Assault, Squad Assault and Rival Domains upon us.

Report

You don't need 25 5* to Squad Assault, some 3* and 4* are very good.
Selena with Reposition.
Any unit with Draw Back.
Healers.
Stahl, Arthur and Subaki are powerful tanks with color advantage.
Sword/Lance/Axe breaker.
Heavy Spear/Hammer.

You can check the enemies on map before the fight, just choose the better counters.

Report

I recommend saving both and utilizing them. Roster depth is super important to focus on early on and both of those are good IVs. Myrrh doesn't even need DC to compete with ranged units. Thanks to her high Res and the unique effect on her breath weapon essentially guaranteeing she avoids doubles, she'll have little problem surviving. She may not kill on the player phase necessarily, but her firepower is quite good and she'll likely put a serious dent in whatever attacked her.

If you're new, I'd avoid using 5 star exclusives as fodder. You'll be much happier waiting until you have a better grasp of what you need.

Report

i'd say save for later. its important to start racking up a decent amount of 5* units when you're new. that really helps you progress the main story faster.

Hector is a DC unit, so the res bane does kinda hurt but nothing he can't handle. hold off on foddering him off and don't give him any expensive skills like aether, wrath, tactics, etc. basically any 5* exclusives. just stick with giving him vantage and bonfire/ignis and maybe hone speed. use him until you get one that isn't res/atk/def bane. -hp and -spd are good.

+Atk/-Def for takumi is really good bc he isn't good with CC anyway. you can go for a brave build and he will serve you well.

if you plan on using his innate Fujin Yumi tho, refine him for speed because the effect is kinda ass unless you like the teleporting effect which is also pretty nice but situational. the added mobility is nice but it only allows him passage through forests. not mountains or rivers so it's pretty subpar.

but if you find he has a hard time staying over 50% hp and you still want to refine for effect, then give him escape route which will give him better mobility when he can't use fujin yumi to warp.

Give him desperation and the speed +3 sacred seal as soon as you get it. if you refine for effect, give him life and death. if you refine for speed, LnD is still the prime option, but that allows you the alternative of running either swift sparrow (expensive) or Fury. Otherwise, for both refines, Darting Blow isn't a bad budget option.

just focus on getting his speed above 40 because 49 attack isn't OHKOing a lot

Report

The refined Fujin effect is very good to Arena Assault/Squad Assault, there much faster archers and Takumi can do something different of everyone.

Close Counter is bad for Takumi, but H! Jakob is the best candidate to this. I guess he will appear on the next Legendary Banner,.

Report

Thanks a lot for explaining Takumi so well, I'm in need of long range units but I was thinking of waiting for mages (since I picked B Lyn as my free unit) or maybe unlocking his fallen version latter on. I will keep them for now and see how they work and what I summon latter on.

Maybe keep Hector around for a bit...

But I never use my regular Hector. The Love Abounds Hector is so much better, the extra 3 points of Def and Res feel like a mile....

Trust me, I have a +Def -Res Hector still in the barracks, the other Hector I foddered off, and this one is just waiting to be foddered off... either for a new character, for Myrrh if I pull her, or for Laevatein should she be a playable character.

My point? Hector isn't that good, he might have been good once, but now sooo many units have increased base stats, therefore raising the defenses of even offensive units so Hector with Vantage cannot one hit ko them. Hector just isn't good anymore and armors are too slow for me.

So I say off with his head... although at least getting him to Level 40 to get his special conversation at very least is always a good idea. Play with him until you're bored, but then - to Myrrh!

Report

*ALSO!

I have a Dorcas, now merged +1, who I find much, MUCH better than regular Hector, thanks to Dorcas' ability to move two spaces freely and having stats just as good as Hector. So since you have a Dorcas, Hector loses value.

Report

Thanks! I like your advice the most, you talk from experience and consider both the technical and kind of emotional factor. I think I'll keep him for now and see how I feel.
