Help me decide what dragon to 5* merge

I'm trying to decide on what unit to max merge. Currently I score around 720 in arena if I don't have a merged bonus unit, which isn't enough to stay in tier 20. Below is my current arena core, with Effie being +8 until I get more copies. I realize the H!Henry and Zelgius are not the most reliable due to their exclusivity.

I would probably want to add a dragon or 2 to my arena core, as they are the only units I both like and have enough of to work toward a 5* max merge. Current contenders are:

Fae 5*+2 (7 more remaining)
A! Tiki 5* (7 more remaining)
Nowi 5*+1 (5 more remaining)

I'm less inclined to work on Nowi since I already have a good Effie.

My 5* Fae is +Spd/-Res but I also have +Spd/-Def and +Res/-Spd. She'll eventually get Aether and I'd probably stick to Fury with +Spd, though Breaths are an option.

My A!Tiki is +Atk/-Spd and I will likely stick to that. I have no other good IV sets for her. She already has both Steady Breath and Aether.

Hmm, it would depend on what you were looking for on your team. Fae can be a mixed tank, but works better as a res tank imo, which I feel you have in Henry. But if you choose her, I would go +spd with a spd refine and -hp, if you can, so her defenses aren't hurt too much. Nowi is a better mixed tank than Fae and can be specialised either way, but your Effie is also pretty balanced in that regard. I have a +def -spd A!Tiki +3 with Aether and Steady Breath, and she eats everything - even melee blues - except some red and all blue mages. I have a +4 Nowi with the same build, but feel she's a little less reliable. Tiki can be res-optimised with a res refine, and you already have steady breath, which compensates for no def boon. An Attack boon would work perfectly well, but if you wanted you could go with +def, +res, or -hp. That would compensate for Zelgius's low res and maybe help balance a bit more. Hope some of that was helpful!

EDIT: oh, and having messed around with the IVs of my dragons a bit, I've found I quite like -hp as a bane over -spd or any other defensive stats.

I generally agree about the -HP bane on the dragons, though I'm less sold on Tiki since it's a super-bane and I think she's best left as a pure physical tank with her crazy Def. Unfortunately out of all my Tikis and Faes with -HP, the only one is a +Spd A!Tiki, which is definitely not what I want.

I think I would work on Fae before Tiki, especially since we are probably more likely to see a new red dragon before we see another green. I'm still undecided about going mixed with -Res or Res-focused with -Def. If trading out Henry I would probably summoner support her, so that won't hurt as much since she should be fast enough to avoid all lance doubles.

The one thing I'm concerned with is the occasional B!Lyn, who would always be +10 in tier 20 and is generally paired with either a dancer or someone to reposition her out of harm's way if I can't kill her on defense. Henry currently has no difficulty with her but without heavy Def investment or Bowbreaker, Fae has a considerably harder matchup there.

I didn't consider A!Tiki's health super-bane. I'm happy with -spd for her, though. And I agree with you - super defense-oriented is best. Mine hits 53 defense when attacked by a melee unit and equipped with close defense, and she's not even fully merged.

If you're keen on Fae, then definitely go for her :). However, you are right - Fae can survive a +10 B!Lyn only with heavy def investment, not speed, frustratingly, unless she's +10 herself or has bowbreaker. A Steady Breath/Quick Reposte build works if you have a defense refinement and a defense boon, and Lyn is panic ploy-ed. I'm working on a Fae but love Myrrh more as she was one of my favourites from SS, and unfortunately didn't pull enough Brave Ikes to give Fae Steady Breath. You could always play around with builds and IVs and see what works for you? I ran an armor team too up until recently, and am now focussing entirely on dragons.

Honestly, unless your a whale I would ditch the armor and go for the dragon emblem. Right now they are pretty powerful in the arena defensively and offensively and your score will be way higher since you will get 3 units with +200 rating. Keep the Effie as your fourth unit to kill the occasional Lucina/Chrom or Ayra

I'm not a whale but I happen to have 4 extra Hectors, 3 W!Lissas, 1 extra W!Tharja, and 1 W!Robin sitting in my barracks as potential skill fodder so I have no issue with building good armor units. Unfortunately I made the mistake of merging a 4*+8 Sheena some time back and haven't really gotten any copies since.

With that said, I'd like to go mixed since they just added the Def Tactic seal. There's also the fact that I currently have just over 20K feathers. So "right now" my score wouldn't be higher with anything other than what I have.

Also, not sure what you mean by fourth since that's reserved for bonus unit and I don't recall the last time Effie or any non-focus dragon, except the recent Nowi, was eligible.

Yep, your just a minnow like me.

If your just looking for this week's arena score, then go with whatever dragon would be valuable long term. Defense tactic isn't bad, for mixed teams, but emblem based buffs have a higher upside potential.

Fae was a bonus unit a few sessions ago.
