Help with Hardin!

Hello everyone, I have a question pertaining to the newest edition to my armor team: a +ATK-DEF Hardin. I ask how should he be used as his kit to me is somewhat confusing; Bold Fighter would suggest that he would be used for a player phase/assault build, yet, his brazen DEF/RES would imply it would be better to have him be a tank. I know that he is highly rated, yet he is clunky to me, though this may be due to his unfamiliarity.

I'm sorry, I rambled toward the end their... (o///o) Sorry! Anyway, any help is welcome and appreciated!

EDIT: I just double checked and he is actually + ATK-DEF, sorry for the mishap everyone! Does this effect a lot?

Brazen Def/Res works during the player phase, so long as he had the HP threshold. You can think of it like he's meant to be player phase, but Gravidus offers him some protection against ranged units during the enemy phase. His Res with that set up is pretty darn good, hitting 42 when his Brazen skill activates, and his def is no slouch at 40 with Brazen. And these are no counting buffs.

A good strategy with him is to get in range of a mage, let them attack and eat his counter. Then if the mage survived, move in for the kill with the Bold Fighter.

The strategy you suggested would work better with wary fighter. He shouldn't need three hits against any mage...probably not even W.Tharja. Green mages will probably down him in two hits, while blue mages probably will either fall in one counterattack (Delthea or Linde) or carry lancebreaker (Reinhardt).

I've never had a Hardin, but as far as I can tell he would be very destructive with steady breath, bold fighter, and QR seal. The base kit was probably designed for him to take damage and then abuse it repeatedly with vengeance while being very hard to finish because of brazen def/res. If you swap out vengeance, then brazen def/res makes less sense so it's probably better to take some other A-skill. But for the kind of speed he has, the most straightforward thing to do is give him QR, in which case steady breath would be fantastic.
