Help with Elincia & Question about the FE games themselves.

Free summoned +Spd/-HP (YES)

Need help with a low budget build, please.

Thinking of:

W: Amiti
Special: (???)
S: Ardent Sacrifice / Reposition
A: Death Blow 3
B: Desperation 3 / Hit and Run
C: Threaten Spd 3
SS: No idea (Fresh account > No seals yet )

I also want to run her with Eir (Love everything we know about her yet.)

PoR and RD (And Genealogy) are the only games, for which I browsed around since the characters seemed interesting. (Elincia = <3)
I learned some stuff about Awakening and Fates while checking questions and replies around here. (Little to no knowledge.)
Are they actually bad, or are they just weaker in comparison to the older ones?
Don't want to torment myself with old graphics. There's no nostalgia for me so they're basically just old games.

Reminder: Never played an actual game yet. (Three Houses is on the wishlist though)

If you have a 4* Sothe, Life and Death 3 is a bit better of an option for her than Death Blow 3 (and go with Desperation, not Hit and Run). The +5 extra points of speed on top of your speed boon make her a quad hit monster. If you get the Flashing Blade seal for her as well, you can potentially get either one Luna or two Moonbows/Glimmer out of each round of combat where she doubles, which is really good.

As for the newer games, while Awakening wasn't my first FE game, (the port of Sacred Stones and Shadow Dragon on the 3DS were) it was the first FE game I sunk my teeth into, and really enjoyed it. I'm not particularly tactical, and I got far too frustrated with perma-death and the 20+ minute map replays to keep my units from dying, so I could never get too far into the other ones. Whatever it may be in comparison to the others, it's still a pretty great game and a lot of fun. There was a reason that it managed to rejuvenate the franchise, and it wasn't just because of marketing.

Edit; Whoops, nevermind, forgot that you can't use Flashing Blade on flyers. I'd probably use a speed +3 or an attack +3 sacred seal, then. Sorry 'bout the mixup. I left the info in 'cause it's still useful on other units, though.

I feel that ones enjoyment of those games, especially fates, is tied to how easily you overlook flaws.

There's plenty of good in them, but it does have more than their fair share of flaws.
Especially the plot of fates.

Personally I don't mind it too much, but it can be jarring

Awakening is 4/10.
The good: Anyone can support with anyone else, for the most part, some of the DLC maps actually make use of endgame builds and serve as a final challenge.
The bad: Pair up trivializes the entire game, by the time you unlock the kids they are so overpowered and broken that you can replace literally everyone thats not chrom or robin with them, paid DLC, the story is garbage and non-engaging.

Fates is 2/10.
The good: Pretty girls, three games with their own challenges.
The bad: The entire story was butchered apart during development to prevent the game from getting an M rating, so much was removed that what the players got was a 7th grade "Create a Story" homework type of thing that would get a D+ at best. The ENTIRE game is balanced around the pair up mechanic. Birthright is easy mode where you can endlessly grind for exp and gold, Conquest is Normal mode where you cant grind for anything, and Revelations cheats. Almost every single character in the fates games suffers from being 2D, to the point where the only reason I remember some characters names is because theyre so prevalent in feh.

Echoes is 5/10.
The good: dunno haven't played it.
The bad: The entire game uses the Sepia instagram filter.

Amiti
Ardent Sacrifice/Reposition
Moonbow (or Luna if going for quads)
Deathblow 3
Desperation 3
Threaten Spd 3
Brazen Atk/Res 3

Threaten Spd imo works better on bulkier units but you can use it while you save up for better fodder.

Awakening is what brought me into the series and I absolutely loved it, and I still do. There's a lot to the characters and the story, while a few flaws, is enjoyable, imo. I also loved Fates. The characters, the music and there was some interesting lore as well. Echoes is also a great remake. And I've played a majority of the older games. Enjoyed them a fair bit as well. If I were to recommend a starting game, Blazing Sword, Path of Radiance, and Awakening are the best places, imo. Sacred Stones is a good place as well. You definitely don't want to start with Genealogy, Radiant Dawn, or Fates. There's a lot to them and I imagine that'd be pretty jarring someone else who hasn't played a game before. Also, RD is a direct sequel to Path of Radiance, so you'd need to play PoR first. Oh, but I don't think the new games are bad. Just really hated due to the "waifu" mechanic. I find enjoyment in all of them and I hope you're able to do the same.

Oh, and maybe Moonbow for Elincia? Maybe Speed or Attack +3 for her Sacred Seal.

As someone who considers themselve a Fates expert, trust me when I say Fates is GREATLY overhated. There are so many pluses about it that people ignore. Lemme give the negatives to the positives. No bias.

Cons:
Mostly filled with badly written characters
Flip flop and poorly written story
The 'waifu' stuff is debatable between person to person if it's truly bad or not
It gets a bit TOO much exposure. IS really loves to promote it when it doesn't need any more promoting.

Pros:
Amazing music. One of the best OSTs in the entire series.
When a character is well written, they are VERY well written (ie Charlotte, Nyx, Anankos, Odin, and a few more)
Great map design
Some of the greatest challenge FE has to offer (Conquest specifically)
No unit is truly bad so anyone could be fully and funnly used, meaning more diverse and different teams and pair ups for future playthroughs.
The My Castle was creative and very innovative.
Child units weren't as good as Awakening's, but still gave for some great mash ups of skills and classes.
The most flexible Lord in the entire series, stat wise and class wise

There are more but I'll stop there. Fates is way overhated because people focus on the character or story too much. Which isn't one of the main things about FE anyway, if anything, those are pluses when playing an FE. It's a great game, and people need to stop looking at the few negatives and focus on the great positives.

You're worried about graphics in what is basically a digital board game? Just play Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. The graphics are fine and the games are awesome. Admittedly finding them legitimately can be a little hard, but I hear Dolphin can run on a toaster these days.
