This would be fun to discuss.
More often than not people find pitybreakers to be a nuisance, either because you already have that unit, they have bad IVs or simply aren't as great as you would expect (looking at you, 5* -Atk Dagger Jakob). But sometimes the exact opposite happens. The last time this happened to me was in the current Wings of Fate banner. While trying for Shigure, a perfect IV Hardin appeared before me. I was like "Hi ! Would you like a cup of fine tea ? (ﾉ◕Д◕)ﾉ".
I think the best you can hope for in this game after that one focus unit you want badly, is a happy pitybreaker you didn't know you wanted. What was the most pleasing surprise you had appearing out of nowhere ?
(Jakob was just salty because I sent my first 4* of him home without thinking twice. Ha. :v)
My happiest pity-breaker (that I actually use and not have plans to fodder) is probably my +Spd -Def Celica. I actually had no desire to get her, and was actually planning on foddering off her Distant Defense to Niles, but I'm glad I didn't. I finally built her and she's so fun and powerful. X_x'
My Celica (red tome) story is quite funny. She's +Hp/-Res. Not the best, but she's still useful. The thing is, I have no idea where she came from, really. I have no idea if she was a pitybreaker or not. xD
Speaking about foddering plans, something similar happened to me. I almost sacrificed my 5* Nino to give Soren Gronnblade+ before Wind's Brand update. She's +Spd/-Hp. Now I'm glad I didn't. :v
No free focus summons from that banner for me, but I managed to get Shiro and Jaffar with good IVs.
That Kana is really nice. I must resist and save up for the new legendary banner, though. After that, I'll try to get her again. Cute characters are like evil magnets. :v
I’ve always liked Delthea, but the only one I summoned was a +Def/-Spd. I was pretty bummed out since those are pretty much the complete opposite IV’s she wants. Luckily, after months and months she finally appeared as a pity breaker with +Spd/-Def. I was pretty stoked!
I'm still waiting to summon any low rarity Reinhardt. The only Reinhardts I've been able to summon have been 2 at 5* but both were sadly -atk, I don't even remember their boons honestly. Although I always find it funny cause I've summoned 1 Gunnthra, 1 SM!Eirika, and 1 WT!Olwen that were all +atk. And I've summoned 2 4* L'Arachel one of which was +atk. So I joke my Reinhardts are cursed to be -atk so that my other mage cavs get the +atk boon.
On the LA banner I initially wanted Hector but changed my mind when I saw that he shared a color with Lilina and decided to roll for Lyn instead. When I want a specific unit, I usually do three full sessions to rack up my pity rate and then start sniping. I was finishing up my third session when I chose a green orb and got pleasantly surprised by a +Atk/-Def LA!Hector. I was so happy I didn't get Lilina, even though I ended up getting all of the focus units for that banner.
I've had quite a bit of near perfect IV pity breakers but the best one out of them is hands down my +Spd -Hp Hinoka. Not too long after, her refinement came and woo, she's a such a power house! I also got a +Atk -Deff Jaffar off the DC/CC banner. His refined- splash damage build is really good for GC and Rival Domains, so he comes in a close second.
A few times:
1. Got Nowi with +Def / -Res on the very first banner that was in the game when I was gunning for Lucina. (Also happened to be my first 5-Star unit ever.) Currently on my core Arena team, though I just recently merged her onto a +Res / -HP one.
2. Got a F!Corrin with +Spd / -Res rolling on the Dragon Voting Gauntlet banner while aiming for a Ninian. She's pretty nice, and I really like running her with Dark Breath on my Dragon Emblem team.
3. Got a pity-breaker Tharja with +Spd / -Def on Halloween banner. Now using her on my Arena Assault team when I need another -Blade tome mage.
4. Got a Linde (not even sure if I can even consider it a pity breaker because of how rare she is) with +Spd / -Def on the Winter banner. Also using her in Arena Assault, but as a combat support with Dark Aura.
5. Got a B!Ike while trying to roll for Myrrh on her debut banner. I had a B!Ike beforehand that I didn't want to fodder, but I was really happy that I got another as Steady Breath fodder for my Nowi. Unfortunately, no Myrrh came home that day... :(
I've had quite a few, I've noticed of late I feel like I've gotten more pitybreakers than focus units. But one that really stood out was Tana on like the Countering Banner, I honestly forgot she was even in the game so she turned out nice despite meh ivs, but I also pulled her more recently on the Thracia banner with +spd/-atk which has been better because of that great speed. My most recent 5* was pity breaker Innes with +spd/-def on the Combat Boosts banner which has been great with LnD Brave Bow, I really needed a good 5* bow unit too which was nice. Other good pitybreakers recently were Amelia and Lucina with good ivs although those ended up merges for my older Amelia and Lucina with even better ivs. There's also been an Eldigan which I know some people don't like as pitybreaker but I like his character so for me it was a fine pull.
Honestly there's only been a few pitybreakers I've been disappointed to get. Peri because I really don't like her voice and Fates for me has overall some meh characters from when I played it. Sheena because I already had my +spd/-hp Amelia. And then most recently -def Luke, who I think is honestly the worst summonable 5* red since the mass demotions.
I mean being Lachesis's brother is a plus, she is my main healer. And playing through Genealogy currently I'm growing a soft spot for a lot of that games cast. Lachesis, Sigurd, Eldigan, Leif, Tailtiu, and Ayra just to name some that have made it into Heroes. Unfortunately I don't have Sigurd or Ayra but I have 5* versions of the other 4.
For me its my sonia i got her around the time her first banner was out with i remember trying to get Delthea and celica(got them much later on) and i pulled a green since there was no blues,to my surprise it was Sonia,didnt want her but beggers can't be choosers,but long story short shes been wreaking havoc since then.
The happiest pity breaker that comes to mind at the moment was on the Farfetched Heroes banner. While trying to pull Mia, I got a +ATK, -RES Elincia which was the IV set I wanted most on her (the one I pulled on her original banner was -ATK).
Perhaps another pity breaker that I only recently got happy about was when I got a 5 star Raven near the launch of the game (at the time, I had no idea about IVs or pity rates, I was just happy to get any 5 star). When I decided to level him up a bit more to see his nature, I found out he was +ATK, -RES and was so glad I kept him around.
My happy breakers seem to be red quite often:
1. Most happy pity breaker (not probably objectively) was a normal Lucina in Thracia banner, +Atk -Def, so not bad IVs. More importantly, Lucina emblem get!
2. Same Thracia banner, Ayra, same IVs as Lucina (earlier than her though). I haven't really used her as much but she's quite deadly
3. Extra Zelgius on... a banner recently, not sure which one it was. I prefer the first one's IVs (+Spd -Def, new one +Atk -Res) though and haven't decided what to do with him.
4. Deviating from red, got a second L!Ephraim back on his banner with better IVs than the first one (+Atk -Def here too, I see a pattern!) so swapped to him and unsure what to do with the other so shares bench with 2nd Z.
5. I decided to do five so this was a bit hard to decide on but I'd say Tana, even though IVs are less than ideal +Res -HP I like her a lot.
Got Tana in the Spring rerun, wanted her for a while. Got a +Spd Bluzura from Wings of Fate, former one was -Atk so that was great. Got a Takumi also from Wings of Fate, needed CC for a project but didn't want to actually summon for him.
Probably one or two I missed, but my luck with pitybreakers is really bad. I get a fair amount of 5 stars, but just not what I want lol. The new pool is a savior for me. (no more Lukas, Clair, and Catria!)
