The Grand Team Advice Question

Ok I’m giving this another go for, partially because I like talking about my babies and partially because I keep wanting to make them good babies.

I’m considering changing up my team dynamic some, and would like thoughts on what I’m going for:

Legion is the Player Phase Physical Damage Dealer. I’m contemplating on giving him Galeforce, because he already does a good amount of damage on his own and his special never seems to go off when it matters.

Reinhardt is, well, Reinhardt - except I think I’m going to make him an AOE threat instead. He’s going to kill most any red he comes across anyway, because he’s Reinhardt, so I was thinking of giving him an AOE special paired with Savage Blow 3 seal (he has Odd Attack Wave which I want to keep on him). His other job besides killing reds is softening things Legion nor Ryoma can straight out kill, so I figured if I shifted his gears to be an AOE slinger it might fit give Ryoma and Legion an easier time.

Azama is the debuffing wall. I’ve swapped him away from his Dazzling Pain+ to Dazzling Fear+, with threaten attack 3 and given him Distant Defense 3 x 2 to help him handle mages and rob them of their attack.

Ryoma still functions as he does - better on enemy phase, he cuts people open with Luna and swoops in on anything Legion and Reinhardt might have issues with.

My question is, does my reasoning for Legion to have Galeforce make sense, which AOE should I go for in giving Reinhardt one of the AOE specials, and should Azama have Heavenly Light or Miracle for his specials since I don’t have Windfire Balm yet?

I think that you should think a little more about how you want to be using Legion before you give him gale-force. On the wrong unit gale force is only so-so. I personally would want gale force on a unit like Cordelia or Celica , who gets multiple charges on the player phase. If you have a consistent plan for your units, it is easier to predict which special they can take advantage of best. With really fast units, you can count on three charges per combat. With really slow units that are guaranteed a follow-up, you can count on four charges per combat. If I recall correctly, Legion has middling-but-kinda-high speed which might contribute to some difficulty in getting the timing just right on his special attack. Even if you build him for player phase, Legions speed and defense should give you enough flexibility during the enemy phase that you can manipulate the timing of his special a little bit, and planning a turn or two ahead, you might get more utility out of something like Luna.

I'll offer my comments on the rest in an hour or so.

Put something else in Azama's C slot. Maybe spd or atk smoke. Or as a budget option threaten res (or Hone Atk) to create more opportunities for rein.

Edit: probably hone atk

Edit2: the reason for this suggestion is because you already have an attack debuff on Azama so in a lot of cases the utility of threaten attack will be lost. But I am not much of a fan of threaten skills anyway because in many cases they require your enemy to be close enough to have hit you in the previous turn.

If you want to pair savage blow with AoE, my personal preference is to run the square pattern AoE on range 2 units. Growing wind.

Thankbyou so much for your help. I hadn’t given Legion Galeforce yet because I wasn’t sure if it would help or hinder him at all - but he always like to pop Moonbow when the thing he’s killing has like 5 health and it doesn’t matter.

As for Azama, I’ll look into - Ryoma also has Hone Atk, so I’m thinking maybe a defense debuff since my main two attacker are both physical?

And Growing Wind was the one I was planning on using, I just couldn’t remember which one is which

Re: the defense debuff idea, I guess it depends on the role you see Reinhardt having on the team. My own Reinhardt is a very big damage dealer but I don't put him in a support/suppression, so I may be overestimating the amount you will have him attack. But my thinking was that if there are res debuffs in play, he can more safely hit a wider variety of targets and have more flexibility over what he uses as his AoE/savage blow nexus point. (Edit: now that I'm describing this it sounds like blue Leo...) Certainly the other two would benefit from a defense debuffer.

I would do that, but Reinhardt is squishy, especially since mine is -Def +Res. The farther away he can be from the danger, the better, so ideally he’d do his AOE and get the hell behind Azama to avoid getting hit by Armads being thrown at five hundred miles per hour straight at him.
