Good enough without merges?

I pulled a +res -spd grima a couple weeks back and he's been my star player ever since. Yet as im currently in tier 18, and im in place to get into tier 19 (currentlly rank 6301), how will he hold up without merges? I know he's tied for highest bst and i have some good skills on him (the mixed phase set with aether), but will he continue to dominate if i cant get any more of him?

He does perfectly fine even when not merged. The only danger are falchion and red mages (tharja etc) and I guess bladetomes. He will do fantastic with proper buffs and positioning. I recommend slapping armored boots ss to move him around better when at full health.

Merges are much more important for scoring than actual gameplay. Yes, +4 to all stats is A LOT, but fights are much more decided by your positioning and AI manipulation and generall choice of skills than merges. At least thats my opinion.

do you think he'll make my score suffer enough to be a problem?

I don't know, you will have to test it out if you can get into tier 20 with it. YOu won't e able to stay there with him, but you can get to tier 20 with very little merges

I wish IS introduces another way to get merge levels. Like a level reset that costs feathers or badges or both and that only work on lvl 40 characters. That would reset your level and give you one merge level.
