Ghespenst Concept

If you know me you know my number one most wanted unit in heroes is Canas from FE7. In my mind the only weapon that should be considered for him to have is Ghespenst, a powerful dark tome found on the final map.
My idea for Canas' playstyle was "slow and bulky;" make him enemy phase, dump his spd to the buttom and bump up the defense values and spare the atk. For Ghespenst, it should be the first Close Counter legendary weapon. However, Close Counter is rather underused in this meta and not nearly as applicable as DC. Plus, mages have lower bst by nature and most every enemy phase mage suffers as a result, so it should have another thing: a Great Flame effect.
One of his defensive stats is compared with the opponent, if his beats theirs he cannot be doubled. This adds to his bulk along with being able to use something like Steady or Warding stance or Close/Distant Def along with CC.

Probably the CC tome. It would be unique, and from what you describe, super useful.
Also, you double posted. Just an FYI.

I like the tome design, finally having a unit with a prf weapon boasting built-in CC would be great.

However, Canas should really get Luna instead. Sure Gespenst is nice, but FE7 Luna is arguably the best dark magic tome, and perhaps the best tome, we have had in any FE game ever. Heck, Canas wielding Luna (or Athos if you chose not to use Canas) could one-shot the final boss with a critical hit.

I don't know I'd argue Forseti could easily be the most broken weapon in all of FE, let alone tome. It added 20 speed and 10 skill when equipped and being an FE4 legendary weapon it has 30 might. And speed especially in FE4 directly affects a characters avoid. So it basically turns whoever is lucky enough to be able to wield it, Lewyn and whoever you make his son, into a one person army who can dodge tank his way to victory. I don't think I've seen a unit with a hit rate above 50 against a Forseti wielder that wasn't some kind of special boss that had their own legendary weapon.

That is quite true. I kind of forgot about Forseti, because that tome is very good in the hands of a capable mage. However, the offensive power of FE7 Luna is very high, so I'd say that it is still really high up there on the list and definitely the best dark magic tome.

Yeah I'm actually on Chapter 6 of Genealogy now and because I paired Lewyn with Tailtiu, Arthur starting with Forseti is just ridiculous. But as far as dark tomes I can agree Luna is probably the best, unless there's some ridiculous one in Thracia I'm unaware of cause I haven't played any of that one. Although I also don't use dark mages all that often honestly. I know the last one I tried using was Sophia in Binding Blade but rng ended up speed screwing her so she ended up unfortunately not useful for me.

I haven't played Thracia either, but it's on the bucket list once my school semester finishes.

I don't think you got RNG screwed with Sophia, I'm pretty sure she's just that bad, maybe just a bit above Gwendolyn tier. Whenever I try to use her, she gets god awful level-ups, so eventually I just stopped and used either Niime or Raigh depending on how nice RNG felt.
