Fury + Desperation VS Mirror Stance+ Quick Riptose

Which combo would be better on units like Soren (non +spd), who have good atk/res with decent speed and are mostly used for baiting out mages?

And in general, what kind of units are best for mirror stance?

Soren has the option to be fast which helps on player and enemy phase. Mirror strike + QR isn't bad for the role but you'll be losing on 3 speed. With +spd (which I honestly recommend) he'll hit 39 speed which can stop doubles on the enemy phase. Fury also gives Soren 3 visible res which he can use for ploys which can really help. IWI feel like fury is the best option but it's mainly on a +spd Soren. He's a 3-4 star unit so before using 20k feathers I think you should take this into consideration. When I think about Mirror strike I think about units like Julia and a -spd Deirdre, really slow units that rely solely on the enemy phase that have good attack and res. I'm not sure if I'll give it to a melee unit unless they have DC on their weapons. I hope this helps :)

It does.
I think I can kinda see what kind of units could use it well.
Julia, Deidre, Julius; enemy phase mages that have too low spd anyway.

Was thinking Soren could just use his speed to avoid doubles, but I guess his res isn't high enough to avoid getting below QR range, so making use out of chip damage is probably better.

Yes exactly. Units like the ones you mentioned never really had a great and easy to get a skill since a lot of the available a skill weren't really enemy phase focused skills, fury was probably there best option but being slow with the 6 damage after effect starts to rack up quick. Other than that I see TA or Death blow being given to these units which isn't bad but none of them never really seem like the best option. They need to start making more enemy phase a skill available, mirror strike and PROBABLY Silas's steady stance is a great start.

Report

I can see Julius getting a lot of use out of steady stance, combining it with his weapon and DC (because distant def is a bit too rare)

16 base def + 7 effective def from loptous + 6 from steady stance + 6 from distant defence seal = 35 def.

I don't have a Soren built up so I can't answer that part but for Mirror Stance + Quick Reposte, I'd say defensive archers with high res and Guard Bow+ builds like Faye or Niles, for mages, Sonya is great with a +res boon (my iv), her neutral speed isn't that great needing QR, Deirdre who is slow but has high res could use the extra res/atk stack for a Iceberg/Glacies nuke counter, mages like Valentine's Lyn or Oliver with Blarserpent+ tome builds would go well with that too

Report

I really wish the serpent tomes would be more spread out in the pool. We just have one blue on a 5* exclusive.

Aside from the slow mages, I was thinking of using it on my -def +res Innes. He often has just too little speed to double, so going full mage bait might be better on him.

As is said before, Soren's probably a poor choice, because he's got good res with a boon. Gonna stick with fury desperation (which I already had on him)

Report

Innes is a great choice too, especially with that iv. I use mine with Atk/Res 3 Bond but if you were to switch out Nidhogg for Guard Bow+, that'd work perfectly. But with his prf bow should be fine too. Yea I agree his speed is good but just not high enough

I was hoping female Morgan was gonna get demoted so we could get better access to that sweet tome.. of course they won't do that

Report

Gonna keep that Nidhogg. Guard bow might be better for this purpose, but I keep praying for that refine.
Not gonna waste that much efford and materials for a bit of a bonus that might be wasted.
Plus I like unique weapon, usually don't replace them (even though I just did that with my water breath Garon)

While I'm pretty happy what IS does with the units, implementing new weapons isn't really a high point of them.
Serpent tomes is the prime example but the horse slayers are another good one.

Generally some skills are strange too. All QR3 and Guards are unlocked on 5*, The single stat stance skills are still very exclusive, the dual stat skills are very sparse (they'd make for great budget option if implemented well), ect.

Soren doesn't have a lot of HP or tons of res, so if you're not using +spd then I'd be afraid of getting doubled, so I tend to go for fury. But the way you asked the question, it sounds like you're asking player phase vs enemy phase, to which I answer probably enemy phase because his owl tome effect is harder to use on player phase and it will cost you some flexibility even if you're a good player.

Note that without +res I don't consider his res high enough to ploy, even with fury.
