Friends List Issues?

Okay, so according to my friends list, I have 88/100 friends. However, whenever I tried to accept someone’s request, I ended up with an error saying that I had the maximum friends allowed? I’m not sure what’s going on here and was curious is anyone had the same problem or had a solution other than unfriending people.
