First cav team - quick question

Do I give Hone Cav to offensive units/Fortify Cav to defensive units or is the other way around? I guess it depends if you wanna go full nuke or have some sort of blend to soak damage?

It's a matter of preference but I run...

Melee Nuke - Fortify Cav
Blade Tome - Fortify Cav
Healer - Hone Cav
TA/Raven - Goad Cav

Typically you give tanks the bonuses to attack, and nukes the bonus to defense so that they can give each other the bonus that they use most. When I have a blade tome user on the team I like to have Ward cavalry on them since they're the only unit that doesn't want that buff type.

I personally use hone cav on Xander, fort cav on Camus/Reinhardt, and ward cav on all others. I love having Xander who literally take no damage from nearly any physical attack and then smacks you up with a 28 point bonfire

The way I decide is that I look at which buff benefits them the most, and give them the opposite. I personally find less value with goad/ward for cavalry teams, partially due to the rarity of goad cavalry (it's great for Fliers though). So yeah every horse gets one or the other except for the two that come default with goad. It is worth noting that that I don't use horse emblem in regular arena (this season being only the second time I have since launch) and so this method was chosen because it makes it easy to mix and match horses for arena assault.

I would suggest Hone for your blade tome unit though. I think cavalry teams need to function as nukes over tanks (at least most of the team being nukes) as if you're not leveraging their movement to get first strike, why use units with lower bst? So yeah under the assumption that your units will tend to benefit more from that buff and that you'll want units next to your blade tome anyway. For double blade tomes idk. I have honestly used -blade and horses in arena quite infrequently relative to how powerful they are.

For the record my O.G. Horse team is:
Olwen: Hone
Eliwood: Fortify (He basically never benefits from this, so it's honestly perfect)
Elise: (Candle and Dazzling): Hone
Camus: Goad

And My current team is
Cecelia (Blade) Hone
Eldigan: Hone (this is a mixed bag. He benefits from attack and defense, but not really speed or res)
Brave Roy: Fortify (possibly even more perfect)
Reinhardt: Goad.

Depend if you want a min/max team or just a straight up balanced team.

Min/max is more a high risk high reward investment. Frail target are still gonna get ORKO by anything. But tankier unit are just gonna wall everything coming at them.
Nuke - fortify/ ward
Tank - Hone/ goad

While a balanced team isn't gonna give you much, but can be better in brainless PvE or even arena defense. So your frail target do not get one shotted and your tankier units are dealing more damage.
Nuke - Hone/ goad
Tank - Fortify/ ward
