Is FEH only going to go downhill from here?

It all started with the Halloween banner with the first tome and bow armored unit, a red flying mage, and a mage killer. Everyone thought they were revolutionary and are going to stay relevant for some time, but then came the Winter banner. The Winter banner was a powercreep on a lot of things, bringing with it the Fighter and Brazen skills. This time too, we thought it couldn't get more OP than Winter Lissa and Winter Tharja but alas, the powercreep doesn't stop.

Things calmed down somewhat with the New Year banner, though everyone was flipping their heads off over the flying dancer. There was a ramp as the Great Dragon came as the first flying dragon and brought with her the spanking new Hone Dragon. Things escalated again after that with the Valentine banner as Hector blew Christmas Lissa and Christmas Chrom (and himself) out of the water.

But still, nothing could be worse than Christmas Tharja and Ayra right? Wrong! In comes Hardin and Grima, the unspeakable horrors. At this rate, the BST is only going to get higher and higher and newer skill will only get more and more OP. IS needs to tone down any new hero if they don't want to end up like B**** Fr****er.

Amelia had a BST of 173, if I recall. This means that the BST ceiling has only increased 2 points, possibly three if there are superboons. The real issue is that units are getting outclasses not by sheer BST, but by superior stat spreads. Take Reinhardt vs every other blue mage. He was build for offense and does his job admirably. LA Eliwood is only decent and isn't as good as Effie because he had spread stats.

Well, true it's more about stat spread. Even with Grima being all the rage Winter Tharja stays a shoulder above him because of her polarized stat spread that focuses on mixed bulk. Specialists are always preferred to a generalist in a role-playing games after all.

I just hope they don't release something stupid like Vengeful and Bold fighter again. Really, reducing cooldowns breaks the meta in half. We saw that already the moment Brave Ike and Ayra came out. My worries are less about BST and more about the rate they are churning out these min-maxed units. At one point they'll hit a ceiling and I don't want that 175 BST ceiling to be raised for at least a year or two, assuming FEH lived for that long.

Report

About BST, Amelia has a 173 BST because she's a Trainee unit. New units have higher BST (like 5-7 more points) for no apparent reason and everyone said powercreep was beginning because of that, then the refinery updates came to fix it.

Nope, FEH has gotten better imo. Obviously powercreep is a thing, it happens eventually in any gacha that's lasted more than a couple months, but the glorious thing about FEH is the things they do to kinda counteract the creepiness. Inheritance, weapon refinery, and straight up giving new weapons to old characters are these things and can make a lot of units be able to stand up to stuff like Ayra, W Tharja, Myrrh, etc.
Besides, at least they do stuff like to give worth to older releases, whereas games like Kingdom Hearts Union Cross, the powercreep is ridiculous. They release something then 3-4 months release something that completely makes the thing released months back useless with no way to make it compete with the new stuff.

The answer... in my opinion? No. Grima can be eviscerated by Falchion... or any decent red mage if he's not build as a specialized magic tank. Hardin can be killed by a green tank, or any decent green mage. Myrrh can be killed by Falchion/Naga/Excalibur/Bows. Ayra can be killed by any decent blue mage and can be baited. Tharja, like everyone else, can be baited.

All in all, every unit has a counter. As long as they don't make a unit that doesn't have any counters then we're fine. If you're that worried about BST, then don't be, because worrying about BST makes this game less fun than it's meant to be. Of course there are bigger and better units than others, that's the whole point of a Gacha game. Make the next best unit so people will open their wallets..

I'm having a lot of fun with this game and I don't have Tharja, Ayra, Grima, Hardin, Myrrh, W!Chrom/Lissa/Robin. So everything that you're talking about is either not much of an issue for me (I go between Tier 17-18. Sometimes 19 if I feel like it) or I just don't care about.. If you're wanting to stay in Tier 20, then you're probably gonna have to shell out some money if you're unlucky in F2P orbs. That's one point of the Gacha. Make you spend money.

Powercreep with the BST, while it has gone up hasn't really hit the point where its close to being out of control yet. Where they need to be careful is the powercreep in skills. Many of the new exclusive weapons/skills are direct powercreeps of older skills/weapons that flat out make them obsolete in some circumstances (see the Fighter skills). It is nice to get new skills added to the pool but it really shouldn't be at the expense of making older ones useless in comparison to new ones.

thats a really good point
Perhaps skills locked to legendary weapons will start to make the game more exclusive for units instead of every armor getting BF only certain units will have their special

I still love FEH, but I’ll agree that the power creep really needs to be slowed down. For me it’s not so much about bst (though that’s still a factor in its own right), but about the skills and spreads. It’s gotten to the point where so many units from the beginning of the game are so inferior they’re rendered useless. There’s very few units that remain relevant and useful, and even then they’ll probably be replaced sooner or later (just look at hector, he replaced himself). That, and the star pools are a problem too. The largest pool is the 5 Star pool, and there so many units in it that honestly don’t need to be there anymore. Jakob? Ceada? Any if the healers? They don’t need to be there.

Report

BEFORE the Wing Sword + Refinement, Caeda had no reason to be in the 5* pool. Now? She can stay. Jakob, Mist, Merric - they have absolutely no reason being obtainable as 5* units.

Dude, everything balances out in the end. These skills are usually inheritable and can be applied to old units further validating them in comparison to new contenders.

There are always means to combat new units. The hammer, bow, zanbato, horsebane, and Falchion still act as effective measures to keep new units in check.

It is often overwhelming at first when new and awesome skills come out, but in the long run, they still don't break the game.

Just to give you a perspective, I've got an Adult Tiki that I've had since the game released. I've dedicated so many resources and merges over the past year that she can easily knock Grima in his fell keester.
