Umm, what unit and what for. Dull Ranged Removes them, doesnt reverse them, opposed to panic ploy. So I guess, depends on the unit. Cant say much more.

I must've somehow entirely missed that...I got too caught up in something I heard, that while Panic Ploy reverses Blade buffs, that it doesn't entirely debuff them.

This is a very general case, and it's likely proponent of ranged-countering characters (which a lot of the time likely have a sort of mixed defenses or Res, while being on the slower side).

Report

I would've thought Panic takes the buffs and turns them into de-buffs, so the +24 extra damage from a +6/+6/+6/+6 turns to 0, and then the buffs turn into -6/-6/-6/-6.

Am I wrong in that?

If Panic Ploy is really that good, that gives Henry an extra edge. Not going to lie. As a ranged counter, he can succesfully beat Blarblade Delfia & most Reinhardts like that (I ran numbers).

Went here https://andu2.github.io/FEH-Mass-Simulator/ and had Henry with Panic Ploy fight a fully buffed (+6 x4) Nino. Because of the Panic, Henry won.

Then, I turned the +6 x4 and turned them into -6 x4 and it did the same damage as if she had +6 x4 and was Panic Ploy'd.

You have to check if you're putting them right. Putting +6 to buffs and then -6 penalties (at the same time) might not factor the same as manually putting -6 penalties or just giving them the buffs and then checking the "Panic" switch.

I did two battles. One was with Nino receiving the +6 buff to all of her stats, and then Henry activating Panic Ploy on her.

The second battle was with Nino receiving a -6 debuff to all of her stats, and no Panic Ploy active, and she did the same amount of damage as if she had the +6 buffs, but was Panic Ployed.

And, on closer inspection, for the first battle (with Panic Ploy), it says "Nino's buffs are reversed by panic debuff."

I'd just try it out in the game, then, honestly.
I'm still fairly certain Panic Ploy is the real difference between Henry & Sophia (something I've been delving into)

Report

I'm not trying to start trouble, but the title is "Dull-Ranged vs. Panic Ploy" There is no question. And I have nothing to go by but the title...It doesn't ask anything.

Report

The benefits of Panic Ploy are obviously better but its less consistent than having Dull Ranged since you, 1, need to have more HP than opposing unit and 2, need to be aligned with him for the effects to take place.

If you really break it down Dull Ranged is more of a defensive ability whereas Panic Ploy is more offensive.

By that I mean Dull Ranged has more value defensively speaking - in that you don't have to plan out your moves for it to work. Panic ploy, on the other hand, you need to play more aggressively - planning yours as well as the enemy moves for it to take effect.
