Doesn't Surtr break the game for AR def players?

I don't see how a defense can set itself up to be effective against a wide variety of threats and still be able to deal with Surtr. He's a very unique unit because he has fairly weak player phase but his ability to inflict 20 chip damage just by standing in front of you and his hyper-tankiness requires very specific treatment which likely doesn't work against most offensive strategies, especially those that like to use a blue tank. So if you build to take Surtr down, most general setup offense teams probably handle you easily enough, and if you don't, then Surtr will solo the map.

Anyone want to show why this isn't the case?

I'd imagine that Dancing Miciah would solve the problem, Effective damage plus Weapon Triangle Advantage (+80%), on top of targeting the weaker of his two defensive stats and functioning as a Dancer. Maybe also have Male Corrin or just someone with his B skill to interfere with Armored Fighter skills, along with QR, Desperation, etc.

With bonus unit stats, light blessings, ally support etc. you imagine wrong.

She can usually deal with him when I'm attacking but not on defence which is what this question is asking about. I've seen a Surtr so buffed up he just stepped onto a lightning trap, took 20 damage, and then still tanked my S!Micaiah and killed her with DC.

There's just no way to defend against that kind of shit without some really dumb setup like a whole team of red mages that can't beat anything else.

But his time as a bonus unit will expire soon, and that's going to be the majority of time from that point on. If a strategy beats him when he's not a bonus unit that's good enough for me.

I think you're right, whatever defense setup I try it always breaks against Surtr, so I built one that gambles on the stupidity of players to underestimate the length and lose to turn limits (works sometimes).

I strongly hope that after this season the meta will change, as Surtr is not bonus anymore and many (me including) will have 6 defense units, making it a lot more difficult to rely on him I think

Aversa with axebreaker remove surtr easily.
aversa is pretty powerful in AR, theres no reason not using her, exp against those blade, rein, lyn, vero, dancer team.

idk who is akariss, but you can always put her in a team with a raven tome.
most horses cant even reach 45HP.
-9 stats on horses is pretty much gonna do 0 damage to the raven tome user.
even some armor gonna get debuffed by her, Bhector, LTiki, Bephraim. HMyrrh, even that new WFae are all gonna get debuffed.
some of the bonus character will outHP her, but most of her team will get -3HP anyway, making it so easy to take them out 1 by 1.
then she can also take down surtr 1 turn with dance this week, and he is a bonus character with +10 bonus and +10HP.

I have an unbuffed and unmerged Ares +atk on my current defense with a pre-charged draconic aura (and DC vantage, but that's irrelevant here). He usually takes about 26 damage off the defilement.

I made a guy that had a fully +10 merged Surtr forfeit without having any true counters too him on my team so he's not as annoying as people say he is

I have a regular Micaiah with DB, Desperation, and Brash Assault seal (no merges, not +atk) and she can 2-3 HKO Surtrs pretty easily. She's probably one of the best units to have on offense since she covers a lot of common units in AR defense. I keep Sacrifice on her to heal up allies that take a lot of damage (like my +10 Roy who is SS'd) and puts her in D. + BA range

If you don't have her, well, any offensive red mages with TA + Axebreaker can do the job I'd imagine
