Do you have a movement type you don't like to use? (flier rant)

In general, is there any movement type you just don't like to use?

For me it's flying.
Not fully sure, why but I think a large part is that I don't like a lot of fliers.
I like Michalis, whom I have no clue how to build (Wo Dao effect seems so useless on a tank)
Myrrh, but I never run her on flier, only mixed.
Florina I do like, but I haven't used too much.

There are a few more, but generally I'm either not sure how to build them or just don't like em. (Kenshi's are a dumb mount. And fliers in dresses wierd me out, it just feels wrong)

Maybe I'm just an idiot though

Armor. I hate using them because they have awful mobility. I hate playing against them because they have ridiculously inflated stats and overpowered exclusive skills. Worst of all is the fact that IS adores armored units and power creeps them up harder than any other movement type.

I can understand aversion to fliers in dresses; just makes a lot of sense. And a lot of fliers are female (but not all of them wear dresses).

I personally don't like armours very much. I like my mobility, and bold fighter is disgusting except when used very specifically (ex: have run with bold fighter in the current AR meta when Veronica will dazzle you to death before you ever get a chance to hit once, but if you pull it off there's something to be said for such a play)

Cavalry is also slightly less interesting to me, but it's pretty powerful for ranged play and I do like the mobility so I do like cavalry for certain purposes

Have you ever tried stacking goads? It's crazy powerful.

Dresses being used meters up in the air, for combat.. It just wierds be out.
The only ones I don't mind are Ninian (whom I see as basicly a non combat unit) and Eir (for honestly no reason. Her design is just to good)

I have a fontness of armor because of the feeling of power. Nothing like sending Stalin into into a hail of arrows and magic only to have him defend and heal through everything.

I do like cavaliers due to the mobility. But I also feel like there are a lot of cavaliers that bring some uniqueness.
Ephraim being able to run balls deep into enemy ranks.
Walhart becoming basicly a 3 move armored unit
Sigurd being just so damn indestructable (and having a higher bst than gen 1 infantry)
Rein.
I could go on, but I like a lot of their gimicks.

Armor is underutilized for me. I have plenty of armor march. But they either need to be built with a team around it or on a mixed team with guidance.

As for michalis: he can run nice self sustain build. Can even take on some red dragons.....with perfect conditions.
Bu sadly, it looks like steady stance 4 and atk def bond is a better option for him now.

I've always wondered if noontime is a good pick for him.
It's a skill most would ignore because of the low damage and healing.
But a defencive Michy does have the boost on his weapon and the atk to make use out of it. Basicly healing any chip damage with every strike.

And given how easy it is to buff/ward enemy phase dragons..

I might build him like this if I can get my hands on another close def (don't wanna kill Josh)
Close def does have the benifit of making him capable of fighting non-red dragons. 31 res with dual on base, and easy ally support..

Cavalry and fliers, not for any competitive reason, I just like seeing the characters without any additons like pegasi, minervas and horses.

One thing I like is the fact that mounts are pretty rare in jrpgs.
How often do you see cavaliers that aren't generic units/enemies?

I always found it wierd that mounts are so uncommon in fiction, given how extremely potent they were in real medival combat.

To be honest, I really only like infantry units. I mostly just LIKE them as characters more. I do like some fliers, Florina, and at least one cavalry unit in Eliwood, but for the most part infantry is my preferred unit type.

I think it all really stems for my love for mages, who tend to be infantry, though I have recently taken a liking to Aversa since she is a very interesting mage.

I'm with everyone else so far, armors are boring. Their defenses are really impressive and OP and all that, but it just gets so repetitive since they're mostly enemy phase. I prefer more versatility in my units.

Armors and cavalry. Not that I don’t like the characters but...armors are so damn slow, even with Armor March improving the movement I still don’t enjoy them too much (though I kind of not dislike them too much when paired with a Guidance user - talking about you YT!Olivia).
As for cavalry I don’t particularly hate them, but I prefer if they’re ranged units. Otherwise it’s still not really my thing.

I didn't know everyone liked armours the least, they're my favorite! Being a mostly enemy phase player, I love using armours. I hate using fliers. Calvary is okay, but trenches are just ugh with them, so I usually don't bother. Infantry is fine. I mostly like armours though.

Hmm, I suppose infantry is my least favourite. I like the challenge of armors.

Armors, i value mobility thus i enjoy ranged cav units most.
Armor march is neat and all but you need 2 units with it to guarranty all 4 armored units will retain 2 space movement on following turn. You can judge how much i hate using armors without support by the fact that i don't have a single armored unit in my arena core.

Fliers.

Because to me, it feels like a second infantry that's weak to an entire class.

Report

I would say Calvary because
1. AR Veronica Reinhardt teams.
2. They usually have low BST and majority of the time don't make up for it(except Veronica and Rein).
3. A lot of them don't work well and I haven't had good luck with.

Report

I only like infantry. I like it simple. Buffs and mobility skills bug the shit out of me.

Report

It's not that I dislike them, but I find myself not using fliers very much. This is probably because of them being weak to archers, who are pretty common. Units that are strong against cavalry or armored exist but are less common, and units that are strong against infantry are even more rare. So yeah, I have nothing against fliers, but because of that weakness, I don't tend to use them as much. Second would probably be armored because of the low mobility. Often when I have one in my team, the match is over before they even get in range of anyone. The armoreds I do use are mostly ones that can counterattack regardless of range.

I agree about the fliers in dresses, but I would phrase it more that I dislike warriors riding sidesaddle. Sidesaddle was a ridiculous way to ride anyway, but to force someone who's riding into battle to do it is beyond the pale. Even wearing a dress, you can ride regular, as long as we're not worried about people fainting from the shock if you hike up your skirt. But with fliers, it's even worse because the animation pretends like the wings and the legs do not occupy the same space when they actually do, so it just functionally doesn't make any sense (in addition to practically not making sense).

Report

Cavs, but mostly because they seem to avoid me like the plague, so I never get the chance to make a decent team.
