Do merged heroes keep refined weapons?

If I were to refine a hero’s weapon but the decided to merge him onto one with better Iv’s, would the merged hero keep the refined weapon or would I have to refine it again? I know this isn’t the case if you try to inherit the refined weapon, but I wondered whether merging would be different.
