Pfft. And you were worried about Quick Riposte.

By the way (dunno if you've tested this yet), but do you prefer Bonfire over Ignis for him because of the lower cooldown, or do you prefer the higher damage? I was thinking of going with Bonfire for those occasions where I can't attack on player phase for fear of him taking too much damage (Distant Counter)...
But the Ignis damage is just amazing...

It's a whole question of it's own, so good question.

It's how you say it is, a lot of the time. My two latest videos actually have him running Bonfire. With the right amount of buffing (in my case, a 60+ Def Henry, about two adjacents), you can oneround people like Fjorm...pretty high Res, but about average HP. A lot of the people you can run to, like Ayra, Ike, BK/Zelgius, Greens etc. are pretty much going to die (and you also take little to no damage off of them). Ignis is really when you just feel very confident in him taking on the big Blues, like Nowi and maybe the ocassional Lyn (assuming she's not running Blades and you don't have Dull-Ranged). Hell, even tends to kill Reinhardt, assuming he can take it.

And unless you're using Fortress Def, he doesn't tend to want to initiate an Ignis if you want to oneshot a Nowi. Fortress is actually useful in this case, assuming you don't mind losing the extra Res.

It's still a strategy game, and you somewhat have to time that Ignis, you know. The same way that you play with Atk Smoke, you can't just straight-up go up and expect to put a Nowi down. Bonfire's consistency is honestly really cool, and it just gets better with Atk buffs (I don't like using these, but it'll make your life a whole lot easier).

Ah. I usually try to lower Ignis' cooldown by attacking first since he doesn't fire off Ignis on the first engagement unless they're doubling me with a Brave weapon, so I would either have to fire it on my next player phase, or wait on enemy phase. I don't mind doing either, but it can definitely help take down some of the blues that he tends to run into (I say that because I get too giddy whenever he has the chance to actually participate in combat, so I don't move him, xD).

Some he doesn't have a problem taking down, but I feel like the few he didn't actually kill on enemy phase would've been killed if he had the cooldown lowered by at least 1.

Gonna test it and see which I prefer. I might keep Ignis because watching those big numbers is too satisfying, but you never know with some of these things.

Thanks. :)

Honestly, with good stacking, Bonfire can be extremely powerful. I just tried it against a Hardin, and the dude just died. I was using Atk Tactic this time to try and see how far is can go, so there you have it.

And the thing you say about him trying to get the first hit in is just part of the strategy (+debuffs).

How do you arrange your defensive buffs? How high does he go with you (also, IVs)? I tried my same setup with an unmerged +Res/-Spd Henry and he can reach 50 Def/Res.

I guess it mostly depends on my team composition. I usually have my Sothe plastered to him (or somewhere near him) because his buffing and debuffing is massive.

So if I'm factoring the +4 from Peshkatz, as well as his dual Drive Def (in case I can't be right near him), then it'd be.. 56? Although, with that said, I can't always have Peshkatz active (whether it be from terrain, the enemy isn't close enough, or something else) so without Peshkatz, I'd be looking at 52 defense, and if I can't have Sothe, or someone, next to him, then it'd be 50.

That's if my calcs aren't wrong, of course. xD

Oh, and his IVs are +Def/-Spd.

Great. Almost perfect IVs to start with. If by any chance you do have New York Azura, you should use her. She's the most powerful Defence buffer, if only for Hagoita & Earth Dance (which she has a B-slot, so it kind of saves a Def Tactic).

But since not everybody has her, I'm going to center this on more general terms:

- +4-6 Def from a Fortify or Tactic
- +6 Def/Res from Close/Distant Def
- Dancer or support-oriented unit with Spur/Def Res C-slot or Res Tactic with a Drive Def or Res Tactic Seal/Double Drives (+3-6 Def/3-9 Res
- Get Henry a support partner. A B-support is already worth +2 Def/Res. If you have Spur Def/Res or just Spur Def/Drive, that's already +4-7 Def/1-6 Res if they're adjacent...and given Owl Tome's mechanic, they're likely adjacent.

That's already like 20+ Def/15 Res (23 Def, assuming Fortify instead of Tactic). And this is only factoring one adjacent. A lot of buffs come from Drives and Tactics, which is why they're really good.

Shit seems like a laundry list, but it's a lot easier than it seems.

Just uploaded it. A quick run with Bonfire.

She can, but I'd recommend a 3rd character to run it, that way you can make the most out of it and she run Spur Def/Res or Res Tactic C-slot with Drive Def (the latter is what I go for). But she's also an amazing standalone buffer if you want to be more flexible. I'd recommend Spur/Def + Drive/Spur Def (+adjacent), since her B-slot is basically a Def Tactic in it's own right. That's a massive +15-16 Def/7-10 Res as it is.

I might forgo giving her a buffing seal and give her the Guidance seal, at least for now, that way way she can give Henry more mobility (even more so because she's a singer), but I may spend some coins on some more defense seals.

Thanks for your help. Always interesting to make this guy be even more of a beast than he already is. xD

Hey man, if I learned anything in these last few days...is that he might legit be a good character of some sort. Is he in the conventional sense? Does he not need support and investment? I won't deny it. But does he pay-off? When your +10 Nowi gets oneshot on 0 displayed damage, don't come crawling to me. :awesome:
