Dark Horses of Fire Emblem Heroes

I used to think Reinhardt was the most OP character I had. Then I started to really understand the game. And then I started a cavalry team. And then I got a lot of feathers. And then the support system came out.

HOLY HECK why does no one talk about Frederick more? He's like an armored unit on a horse. Seriously, this guy is INSANE. He survived an attack from Ike and then slaughtered him in return on my phase. He beat up an Olivia with Ruby Sword+. That's just silly. It's stupid crazy. And heaven forbid if Frederick is ever a bonus unit for Tempest Trials...

Every time people talk about their cavalry teams it saddens me I almost never hear Frederick. That's why i consider Frederick the "Dark Horse" (edit: oh my gosh I just realized what a terrible pun I made...) of FEH. No one notices him that much, but MY GOODNESS is he incredible.

Do any of you guys have a similar opinion about a unit you love?

I would say Eliwood...but the newly released Brave Roy is superior to him in almost every way*.

*Eliwood's high resistance has a few perks, like being able to run Ploy Defense.

I misread Dark as Dank, was disappointed when it turned out to not be a shitpost...

But in all seriousness, I quite like Fred myself in theory, unfortunately I've never managed to draw a good IV of him (like half the Fred's I've ever drawn are +Res, wtf), but I'll probably play with him if I manage to get a good copy of him and a 5* Camilla/Raven at some point.

Yikes, that's bad luck... Mine is +ATK, -SPD which is perfect for me. My IV luck is kind of all over the place. Like the only Reinhardt I've ever pulled was +ATK/-DEF. But then I get things like +DEF/-SPD Celica and +DEF/-SPD S!Elise...

I never found Frederick to be a forgotten or overlooked hero. I'm using him in my second cavalry team and he never fails.

Who is kind of overlooked imho is Raven. I never see him in arena, not even at tier 20 where you can sometimes encounter some more obscure heroes. He's not really OP (and Fred/Cherche are better thanks to class buffs) but I really like him and watching him sometimes quad kill red heroes is just so satisfying. I'll be grinding his support bonus when I get enough time to play today.

I still never run into him in the arena ever and you're one of the only two people who has said they use Frederick.

Yeah, Raven seem to be a great character when fully built. Ironically, I sacrificed a terrible +RES/-SPD Raven to give my Frederick Brave Axe+. :P. Hope I can get another one sometime.

Oh man, Raven was one of my first 5* pulls, and he was super useful at the time, but unfortunately he's -atk and so has been rather outclassed since. If I were rational I would probably give his Brave Axe to Frederick or Cherche, but it feels vaguely disloyal to throw away a 5* level 40 unit who helped me so much early on. Maybe one day I'll get another 5* Raven and I won't feel so bad about it lol.

This happened to me with takumi, I ended up getting a second one with +spd and just finally foddered off Close counter to my horse emblem +atk Leo. Its lit

No one ever talks about Lukas who is one of my favorite heroes. He was my first five stars (for two) while trying for another hero. I got upset but then I used him and laughed as all the peasants attacked me and did 4 samage to me in a round. It was glorious the first time I saw his tanking capabilities.

I love Lukas. His defense is so sky-high that when I was grinding him up I could use him against units who were 10 or more levels above him and they still did practically no damage. I recently gave mine Ignis, because hello, could there be a more perfect special for him? :D

FAE. Seriously, she's the most underrated dragon. I'll grant that I've invested heavily in mine, but she also has a not-typically recommended IV set, and I don't know why, because this set's amazing. Mine is +def -hp, which basically means that with Fury 3, Renewal, and an HP seal she works as both a physical AND a magical tank. Falchion users still kill her instantly, obviously, but she just utterly owns most blue and many green units. (I don't need to run a sword user just to take out Hector!) I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to promote my 4* -spd Nowi just to give Fae Lightning Breath+, and I'm very strongly considering it.

Fae is one unit I've always wanted to pull but never have, not even at 4 stars. I need a really good green since all my greens have crap IVs or are crap characters themselves.

Gets overlooked due to pure offensive potential of Tharja and Celica but is the perfect balance of support and attack.

I've worked extremely hard on building up a solid Frederick with Brave Axe+ and Death Blow 3, but the truth is that he leans hard on a +ATK IV and mine doesn't have a +ATK IV. Mine has +HP/-SPD which is ok, but not really good enough to demand a slot on one of my main teams.

Currently my tricked out Fred is 4* and is waiting on my summoning a +ATK version to merge into before being promoted to 5* and finishing out the skill set. I've already sunk 20k Feathers into him so it will happen eventually.

When you get that right IV though... ugh, he so good!

I really have to say, though, your skills need some tweaks. Bonfine works a lot better as a special due to his sky high defence. I'd also argue that Reposition is better than draw back since Frederck can take physical hits so well but that's not as important.

Draw Back as a passive works better on a non-brave axe Frederick, but to take advantage of his offensive capabilites, I'd argue Axebreaker is the best choice. For one thing, it allows you to ORKO Hector, leaving the red slot open for a more versatile character. It also works wonders as a defensive skill allowing Frederick to safely bait any axe user (also Axebreaker is the easiest breaker skill to get. Laslow is available at 3 stars and 2000 feathers isn't hard to come by.)

If you're are willing to invest in this guy, he's going to be absolutely amazing.

Yes! I have a 4*+7 +Atk/-Res with db3 and regular brave axe. I plan on bringing him to 5*s and giving him brave axe+ soon

Even @ 4 stars, hes a monster on horse emblem, super sleeper pick . I needed good teammates for brave roy and i ended up with:
Brave Roy, Fred, rein and lyn.

If you have the resources, definitely a G R E A T uncommon unit
