Close counter negate dragon adaptive damage? (if dragon initiates)

A while back I saw someone making this claim and there was a discussion about weather its true or not, I didnt stick around to find out. Anyone know if this is true? If a dragon attacks a CC mage with high resistance and low def, would it be forced to target RES rather than def?

Since in that instance, the "Ranged" mage is technically attacking at range 1 not 2. Which would be ideal since dragons are typically best countered by baiting.

Its the same, will target the lower stat.
For example if Fjorm attack a CC Henry her special (ice mirror) will defend her from Henry first retaliation.

Not in my testing it didn't, Pavise would trigger in cases like that though. (And that is why it had me so confused initially).

Tested by: Fjorm attacking S!Xander in the Lunatic Paralogue - did not trigger Ice Mirror when he counters her.

No, not true. I even confirmed it just in case. What matters is that the default range of the target is 2, CC doesn't change that.

That may have been me, as both Breath weapons and the Specials like Ice Mirror/Sacred Cowl, etc. use the phrasing of "Foe's range = 2" (at least in the English version), however they DO NOT operate the same way. For the specials it is based of range from the unit, for Breath weapons it is based off the weapon type.

So originally I was figuring that they worked like the Specials (they were first to sport that phrasing after all), though after testing I concluded that it is indeed terrible choice of wording. Realistically if it's going to work the way it currently does it should list the weapon types, as Distant Defense/Guard do. Having identical phrasing operate in 2 different ways is terrible practice.
