Chrom

Chrom seems like a pretty underrated unit. With Brave Sword+, Heavy Blade, Wrath, and attack +3 sacred seal, he sounds really powerful. I want to know if it's worth to build him like that, of course later after some more content is revealed. (FEH channel)

You lose so much might going from Falchion down to brave sword that heavy blade becomes much less valuable, even with a boon and the attack sacred seal maxed out. No reason to sack an Ike for Chrom.

You would be surprised how often heavy blade won't trigger at 51 attack, particularly in arena and higher level pve content.

Chrom is underused though. He was my first 5* unit and is still great in the Tempest Trials. Sadly, he plays a lot like an armor unit without the benefit of wary fighter and movement buffs, so he is much harder to use practically than units like Ryoma, Ike and Xander.

For what it's worth, I feel like the only units worth investing in for brave weapon builds are cavalry and flyers. Their superior movement lets you use a more min-Max build without worrying about babysitting the unit after it attacks. Similarly, since they are easier to get out of danger, they suffer much less from the brave weapon speed penalty. Just my $0.02

Funny you say this - I literally JUST had this epiphany earlier this morning when contemplating putting Steady Breath, QR3 & Moonbow/QP Aether on my Chrom (+atk/-hp)... Who is already running BS+ & DB3, and is largely benched unfortunately. Meanwhile my Elincia, Cherche, and Tinyhands see plenty of use, as I'm sure my Frederick, Seth & Est will too, once I'm done building them.

the problem there is the amount of investment needed and how confined his role is as a red sword Reinhardt. if investment isn't a problem, heavy blade is an interesting option, however you'd be using an Ike. deathblow may be a more straight-forward option that adds straight damage.

Death Blow is the go-to for Brave weapons, since it adds 12 atk spread over two hits. Giving him the +atk seal is definitely a good call. No sword user exceeds his atk. I think Arden matches it when Chrom is neutral atk.

Heavy blade doesn't synergize well with Brave weapons in general, since they contain low MT it'll be hard to utilize this well. 51 attack with Brave sword+ is not high enough to abuse it properly and using Death blow 3 will serve you much better to utilize Chrom's massive attack stat to it's potential.

By the way if we're talking underrated sword lords we talk about Alfonse lol.

So you need to eat 2 toptier rare units to make him top notch?

Yeah, unfortunately thats the problem... no 4* has heavy blade (tho i would use DD3 or even attack+3) or wrath....

If you happen to have the Brash Assault seal and you're willingly to waste badges and coins to upgrade it; instead of wasting Wrath, I suggest giving the Desperation + Brash Assault Combo A try. Chrom is a pretty Tanky unit, he should be able to take some physical hits, or by using hp transfering assist skills; to land himself in the hp threshold to activate the Brash Assault 3 seal. When active, as long as they do not have SwordBreaker and they're able to counter attack him back; no matter the speed differences, Chrom will be able to double them. With Desperation active his double will happen immediately; Meaning with a Brave Sword, he can Quad attack them before they get a chance to counter attack back.

Having built a Chrom from 4* (+Att, -Spd) and then subsequently pulled 4 x 5* versions of him ? I can say that Brave Sword Chrom will struggle to reach the attack points needed to run heavy blade effectively.
Death blow and Quick Riposte are great on him though.
