CC Mage Project

So I've been looking for a project to work on for a while now. I've got feathers and skills to feed, but Idk what to give them too. After deciding against Selena and Joshua bc of what I've already got, I settled on a CC Mage. But who do I pick? Julius has bad defense but a good tome naturally, Lyon and Sonia have good defenses but lackluster weapons (and I only have the one katarina), Robin has really low Atk, and Boey has low Atk and even lower res. Who would you all say is the best option for a (non-armored) mage tank?

Most of the time, you'd be focusing on the unit's defense rather than their resistance for a Close Counter build, so Boey's low resistance stat shouldn't necessarily be taken into consideration for a CC build.

Out of the units provided, I'd say to wait. It seems like you're looking for a unit that can tank both physical and magical hits, and that's not necessarily something that can be done effectively, at least not without quite a bit of investment, and you seem like you're not willing to give up your Katarina, and mages tend to have quite a bit of speed anyway (at least the ones that aren't using Close Counter).

Well, if you really want a CC Mage, your best option is to wait for a rerun of one of the seasonal armored mages: Halloween Henry, Winter Tharja, or LA Lyn. Winter Tharja might be coming back on the next Legendary Banner. She would be your best bet because she comes with a kit that's geared for that right out of the box: Close Counter & Vengeful Fighter and Candelabra gives +2 to every stat if the enemy initiates. Bridal Tharja also has surprisingly high def for a mage too if you managed to snag one of her and can't wait.

There's also one more option, get a dragon with Lightning Breath. A Tiki and Nowi are great options for this. They attack the Res stat with Melee units and with a refine can hit the def stat for ranged units. Sure the dragons won't initiate at range, but most likely your CC Mage build won't do so either.

Good luck and remember that you can always save your resources for later, but once you invest them they're gone!

Are you planning to merge this mage of yours? If so, and you are not prone to whaling I suggest to forget the seasonal armored ones and pick Sophia. She has decent(-ish) mixed defenses and can hit pretty hard, is common enough to get to 5*+10 without going crazy and she's kinda sweet. Lyon has slightly better stats and a prf weapon but very limited merges.

Boey could also make a good candidate, though with lower Res (but better Def) and he's not as common as Sophia... though was he demoted to three star pool too? Those two are anyways the ones that pop into mind when thinking CC mages. You could also go for a healer with CC, there are fun builds there too.
