Canas and Linus are gonna suck STATwise, don’t @ me

I couldn't agree more with this. It just blows my mind how many people continue to subscribe to the "square peg, round hole" theory when it comes to building their units. Just because a units "can" do something doesn't mean you should try to force it too if in comparison it's going to only get sub-optimal results. IV's should play a major role in deciding how you should build "X" unit not just what you want them to be.

No need to bring in holes and theories when you can just say "People should just build units that focused around their abilities." Don't build Lukas so he can withstand magical atks, so he can focus more on his role as a physical wall is basically the idea you're trying to get across, and I have to disagree, since that's where the creativity in builds come in. It's also where those nightmare inducing moments happen when you realized you fucked up since you didn't expect said unit to survive your atk, but it somehow did.

Alright first if someone loses to a unit (that they can get a look at first before even starting a map) simply because they were either careless or perhaps didn't include some type of unit in their team that would be able to deal with such a threat then that's their fault. If it happens in arena that's why it's suggested to build a balanced team. If it happens outside of arena well i don't know what to tell you other than plan better.
Second I posted my comment in the way i did because i agreed with the initial premise of the the first comment that just about every unit can become useful if utilized based on what strengths they have. Certainly each person is free to build a unit however they want but don't come back later wondering why (to use your example) Lukas didn't survive an attack from a magic user or dragon when he really isn't suited for such a role to begin with. The idea is to make the most of what units you have and that goes doubly for F2P who are limited on resources, and the best way to do that is build them to their strengths. Exotic builds can work too but only if a unit can be rationalized for it.

Kaze is passable for taking out most infantry mages (most people don't have access to kitty paddle, so we'll pretend it doesn't exist), but outside of that... he's not exactly completely what you'd call a go-to mage killer. His 30 atk stat, with poison dagger goes up to 35, and with LnD, he reaches 41 spd, and 40 atk which isn't too reliable to double everybody's favorite type of mage, the fast glass cannon ones (there's also the ones that aren't infantry). I won't factor in spd buffs, since you'd be relying on outside sources. You can turn him into a full on magic wall, but there are better units for that kind of thing. That would also sacrifice his possible offensive potential too.

First off we dunno Linus' stats or kit so we can't make a judgement there.
Second while I am nervous that Canas will be afflicted noticeably by F2P Unit Syndrome (assuming he won't be an Ayra situation), the most recent F2P units, M!Kana Kaze and Groom Marth, all have solid stat lines and kits, the caveat of IVs and merge potential is noticeable yes but it isn't too massive a detractor (really Kaze's problem is his weapon type is still underpowered and mage tanking dagger is heavily locked down by Felicia. M!Kana too just has steep competition with Nowi).
Really I just hope they give Canas a unique skill like Arvis and Arden have, something to carve him a niche and also potentially soften the reduced BST.
Oh also that 31 HP is almost definitely not how much he will actually have at max. In that scene Legault has 10 less HP and Nino has 8 less HP than what was shown earlier. And it's presumably the final map where the should normally have raised stats
