Can Someone Explain Me The Popularity Of Veronica?

It wasn't instant. People were obsessed with Veronica during the voting process of CYL 2, that's why she got 2nd place and beat Camilla.

Not everyone has played the main Fire Emblem games, so Heroes would be their first 'taste' of what Fire Emblem is, thus most likely not having an emotional connection to some of the units.

And it doesn't help that they made Veronica the most OP healer in the game.

Shes a girl
Shes a little girl
Shes cute
She has great hair
Shes strong both as a player unit and AI unit
She has more characterization than a good chunk of the characters in the game
Her motivations for "Evil" are legitimate, in the whole schizophrenia bit
Shes perfect daughter material
Shes got floofy hair that I want to brush for hours on end

I've seen dozens of reasons why, here are the most popular.

Veronica is a OG Heroes character with a little depth to her. Before book two I really didn't care much for her, but she has really grown on me. She will also always haunt my dreams as the first Tempest Trail boss. I wouldn't say she's a well thought out character, she's a pretty paint by numbers troubled villain. However she's has buckets of charisma compared to the Asker Trio.

Finally like another person said, Heroes might just be a lot of peoples first Fire Emblem game. They've seen Veronica from day one in the story up to this point. No non-heroes character has gotten that much screen time and shown up in as many chapters/story scenarios as Veronica. You could make a case for Xander, but that's about it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - She's new. During the CYL I cast my votes for only new characters, most of which went to Veronica as she was the least likely to get an official playable version at the time. Every other CYL character has at least 3 variants, Veronica has 1. That to me makes her a far more interesting character.

Just look at how outraged a lot of people got over the 5th Lyn Alt, choosing "highly-popular" characters is going to have that effect, with Veronica that isn't nearly as likely.

When it comes time to vote for CYL3 I suspect a lot of my votes to go to Laegjarn, as to me she is an interesting villain, that is gaining a lot of depth as Book 2 concludes. The fact that she encourages Helbindi to stop fighting is a pretty big step into seeing her true character rather just the "doing my job" aspect we've seen early on.

Look at the other fire emblem heroes characters:
Alfonse has no personality to speak of
Sharena has little character development, though is better than her brother.
Anna version 15010 is a money obsessed merchant, but really, what’s new? She’s just redundant and not really needed.
And Bruno/zacharias made no appearances past book 1 and even then made few appearances at all, liked his story though.
As for the nifl siblings:
Fjorm is naive and frankly lacking in proper personality
Gunnthra is.........well-done?
Those were the ones released before CYL2
All of them are lacking in both proper motives and personality.
The villains were ok, in particular Loki and surtr were memorable, though surtr lacked a motive that wasn’t” murder freakin everyone”
The generals were actually well made and Helbindi was surprisingly well thought out despite his few appearances
Veronica stands out in this group with good character development, a proper motive, her actions tie into most of the story, and her few fights are fun to do.
It’s no surprise she became quite popular, plus she’s cute, looks great in both of her designs and is the best cavalry healer period.

I hate the character. Why do people like her? She is so bland. No personality, basic motivations. It’s nothing special. I wish Bruno got more love instead.
