Can someone explain how the pity rate works on legendary banners?

Is it like 8 percent divided by 3 or something like that? Right now I have a 9.50 rate and I'm wondering if it's worth it to buy the orb pack that's around $26 (I forget the exact price). I'm aiming for Tiki to optimize my Tiki emblem but I don't know if it's even worth bothering to spend on because I refuse to spend over $30.

If I understand correctly, if you set your max at $30 (which seems like a pretty reasonable number to me, but I don't claim to be an expert with money), you can get 46 orbs. I ran the 9.5 rate through my spreadsheet and you have somewhere around 22% probability of getting Tiki, which means you're significantly more likely to come up empty than to get her. If you repeated your exact situation four times on four separate banners, 46 orbs starting at 9.5%, you would probably get your desired focus unit once.

Tiki will come back again so don't feel too pressured. Also the pity rate increases in increments of .5% every 5 pulls.

So with 46 orbs you'll get it to 10.5%.
In 9-10 focused blue orb pulls, starting at 9.5 you should probably pull one blue focus. No guarantees, and still only one in three that'll be Tiki. Save orbs as a madman and wait until she gets back!
