It's difficult to give you a definitive answer to that question. The question you really need to ask is how often do you use your Zelgius? If you only use him occasionally, and you plan to use Lance-tor a lot, as I do, then merging is the way to go. If Zelgius is a mainstay on your team, and used in almost everything, then I would give Bold Fighter to him.

Personally, I merged mine(both neutral ironically) and I intend to keep doing so. I would absolutely love to see him max, unrealistic as that may be without dropping hundreds of dollars into orbs.
