Brash Assault on Lyn?

'Unit automatically makes a follow-up when at HP < 50% and attacking a foe that can counter.'

I feel like I'm missing something - with her in-built Desp 2, why do people say to run BA? BA, as far as I can tell, does the exact same thing as Desp 2 except has the limitation of the enemy needing to counter - and if you outspeed them and use Desp, it's redundant anyway? With that said, surely a +Spd Darting build is better?

I'm sure I'm misunderstanding something somewhere, so if anyone could help elaborate to poor little ol' me why people do this it would be most appreciated.

BA will always give you 2 hits even if you are slower then your enemys . Sol Kati weapon has already Desperation 2 in.
With this combo going down 50% you have always 2 hits first vs most melee enemys and you can go with her +atk to make more dmg.
This combo is recommended to run in +atk boon to make lyn terrible atk higher and with that more kills.

The build was recommended to endorse running an attack boon instead of speed because with Brash Assault and Desperation 2 activated, any melee unit gets a guaranteed double regardless of her speed, and those 2 attacks are before they can retaliate at all. That's how the build was designed to work so that you needn't worry about her lacking the speed to double some targets.

I might be wrong, but if I recall, having 2 ways to get 2 attacks (speed and brash) *might* allow you to bypass swordbreaker, but don't quote me on that.

Also, I'm about to drop a whole new build theorycraft just for Lyn due to the banner so gimme a few more minutes

Basically what these guys said, so I'll just sum it up short.

Brash Assault guarantees a follow up attack regardless of your speed or the enemy's speed when under 50%.

Desperation (Sol Katti effect) ensures that IF you have a follow up attack, you will always perform that follow up attack before the enemy can attack back when under HP threshhold.

So when Lyn is under 50% HP, she will have a 16 MT Brave Sword at the cost of her B-Slot.

Right, THAT'S where I was getting caught up - I got tripped by the skill saying it '*AUTOMATICALLY* makes a follow-up' - that is to say, I thought the skill acted like a Brave effect by itself.

Didn't think about "follow-up" definitely meaning it was a later counter. Well, moral of the story: always question FEH's choice of wording. Thank you (as well as to Ryu and sivo for their helping) for the clarification.

Brash Assault only triggers under 50% HP so in Lyn's case, you will never have Brash Assault activated without her Desperation, so she'll always get the double attack first instead.

I'm not going to say what these other guys have, but I will add stuff. Brash Assault also allows you to double units with Swordbreaker that can counter when your speed is high enough. Wary Fighter too.

Think about it like this: Brash Assault, when triggered, offers a +1 to your Double score. Wary Fighter is -1 from both units. Breaker skills are +1 to the breaker enemy and -1 to the broken enemy. Quick Riposte also qualifies. If the value is less than 1, you won't double. If it's more than 1, you will. If it's 0, it's based on speed.
