Is Blue Flame really that powerful?

I mean, Bonfire or Iceberg usually deal upwards of 20 damage upon activation, and they don't have a positioning requirement (which is a pretty big deal if you think about it).

Honestly, to me, the only real improvement here is that it's a 500SP skill, making it a decent choice over Aether for Arena scoring. Even so, Aether still provides huge utility in the form of healing, whilst still boosting your dmg (usually enough). And Aether is readily available.

Anyone else feel the hypetrain left the station a bit early?

Edit: thinking of build options, I guess Ares and LA!Hector come to mind.
Ares can basically run DC+Vantage and still have it ready every turn, which makes him an insane enemy phase unit. Still, it's only a bit more insane then he already is. At +10 merge, his bonfire damage would already reach 18 damage.. And that is without the positioning penalty.
Hector gets to run double Wrath and Blue Flame for a 45 damage special (!). That's without factoring in his insane attack. If Vantage Seal ever becomes a thing, this will be truly retarded. However, again, Bonfire off of his 44 Defense is already a 22 damage boost, making Blue Flame not much of an improvement at all, combatwise.

I don't think it's that great but I never realised it was inheritable and scored as much as aether, i'll definitely use it in arena since aethers cooldown is just too long for non armour units
ironically I would give it to my +10 odin, he doesn't have high defenses or attack so blue flame is probably the most effective way to let him get kills

Legendary lyn, Legault use it really well
I’ll probably give it to my legendary lyn+spd if I get him later
Units that have high speed and low attack/med res/def use it well
It’s only 25-35 but with wrath wao +25 damage could be deadly
I might give it to Marisa just to play around because I already gave her wrath and wao dao lol

I like Blue Flame as a special MUCH, MUCH MORE than Aether. With Blue Flame, the cooldown count is lower, and it's just damage. The healing from Aether is great, yeah, but you're not gonna get much use out of it if the foe's already damaged.

Sometimes 1 or 2 points difference can really make, well, a difference. 50 defense/resistance is a hefty number to reach so at least Blue Flame has that going for it. It's likely to see more usage at tiers around low 19 or below since those numbers are uncommon on lower tiers. Its main problem is that it's pretty much a player-controlled skill only since the AI is god awful at correctly positioning for Bond effects and the like.

The good part of Blue Flame is that it is a 500SP special with a 3 charge cooldown. Until now, for arena scoring purposes you have to run Galeforce (for speedy and hard-hitting units only) or Aether (very very good special). But they a re 5 charge, meaning you have to set them up to use them. You can build with Blue flame and proc it on every combat, something that you can't do with Aether unless you are a breath-riposte slow dragon, or with galeforce without a blade seal/skill AND some form of cooldown reduction. That is what makes blue flame really good.

The big deal is it will make arena much harder. A lot of units ran Aether even though they couldn’t get it off first combat so it was often a blank. A slaying weapon with breath skill quick riposte can now throw blue flame out twice while scoring optimally, bold fighter triggers it on second hit by itself. Previously only Zelgius had that kind of threat, this opens a lot of strong defense team options.
