Barracks management

I'm sitting at 325/335 and I'm probably going to need at least 50-60 spaces in the next 3 weeks. I can fodder and merge enough to free up maybe 20-25? spaces at the very most, and I was looking to wait for optimal IVs of some 3*/4* to try these units out before deciding whether to 5* supermerge (because if I find I don't like them enough, I'd rather have a 5* than patch an IV with 5*+1). I don't see whom I can send home besides Raigh (I don't see myself using dual rallies where atk is one of the stats) and some 3*s; a lot of my space is fodder or guys like Raven or Fae whom I want to merge in the future. I don't mind spending 4-5 orbs expanding, but not much more than that. Should I just go ahead and build the units I mentioned before who have average IVs, or any other suggestions for getting space?

I don't send home units, so I just get more space with orbs, or just merge all of the copies of 4* units that I have no interest in promoting to 5* (never know when they'll get weapon refines).

Optimal IVs on here aren't necessarily Optimal IVs for the character. Anyone you don't plan on using panic ploy with is generally better off with an HP bane than anything else (Unless one stat is so low it's virtually worthless[ <=15 without a boon]), as HP is the easiest stat to patch up (A blessing with a legendary hero already exceeds the bane).

Besides, HP is better for high speed builds that only survive one hit and some niche cases like Raven pavise, Parthia refine, or Fjorm's mirror which reduce the value you get out of def/res

Ah, in that case I would suggest, build the characters you are most interested in building as best you can (5*, inheritance, etc.), don't worry about the IVs so much as you can always merge them when you get the desired IV's (just be sure to not +10 them).

I did say "generally" there are certainly exceptions to that, but since HP is the easiest stat to nullify a bane in it definitely becomes a more desirable bane than others.

I send units home all the time... I don't want to spend my precious orbs on barracks space. I only keep units that I know I will either fodder or build, and if it's a unit I might want to build in the future but have no concrete plans for it I'll send them home anyway if they have bad IVs.
