This Banner's Odds
I am admittedly a whale. I hate this banner because none of the second row choices are desirable EG I don't have any of them at merged 5*. There's a second rant there about their Arena choices either being a) Banner or b) the stepchildren. Their arena choices are blatantly about "give me your money or use these shitty units"....no offense but yea. I have spent money in the
...HOWEVER.... I just really needed to come and rant about the fact that I am using my once 4* (now 5* no merge) Fallen Takumi literally because I cannot get one of the new arena banner heroes to drop. I've probably dropped 350-500$ - no joke - trying to get a single unit on the new Hoshidan Summer banner (I said I'm a whale remember) and haven't gotten a single one. Not a single one.
I should note I am only pulling blues and reds, blues because I actually have a +8 New Year Takumi already and it'd be great to put an anti-armor weapon on him, and reds because Michaiah is anti-cav and anti-armor and we love Micaiah. When neither are an option I'd pull green. In any event, I've spent DOZENS AND DOZENS of orbs on reds and blues and literally do not have a single Hoshidan Summer. I'm legit disillusioned, and have been trying to wean myself off this game for a couple months (EG trying not to whale and spend less), and this summoning session is just more incentive to stop. Meh. Still annoyed and baffled AF.

I believe the arena bonus characters are the 4 new ones (5 in this case), then 2 GBH units, 2-3 completely random units from the summoning pool (Pretty sure one is always a 3-4* pull) and the last is either one of the Askr trio or Fjorm who I believes switches every other week with Sharena.
Hope this helps. Still annoying af to have a merged bonus unit.

Lol no offense but that doesn't help because it's pointing out the obvious. The GHB are also curated by them and are thus chosen for a reason, and my point is that their curated choices in arena units definitely favor the arena players who are spending money on the *new* banners (something I actually normally buy into and am extra salty that the odds sh*t all over me this time). Trust me, this is most apparent to a player who is a whale and is trying to save money and stop whaling. The second row heroes are simply not meta units. I get that they want to slot units for F2P players, but this current line-up style is a slap in the face to players who've also invested in previous units.
For example, they drive sales towards new units, from Fallen Robin, Winter Tharja, Fallen Hardin, to Ayra and Mia (you name it) but how often do they actually give you the opportunity to use any of these players in the arena??
I guess what I'm saying is that I'd like to see them use just 1/5 of the new slots (typically 2nd row) to revive a unit that was recently featured. Maybe they don't do this as a way to keep the arena balanced, but really all it does is make me wonder why I bother to invest in the best units in the first place when the freaking bonus units are units like Frederick and Roderick. Do they both really have to be old-school underwhelming melee-cavalry??
I guess it really bugs me because I have to go through 2 weeks of this crappy banner, and I refuse to spend feathers on Roderick and Frederick, and it isn't even possible to optimize an Arvis because of his limitation, same with Alfonse.
Literally all of the units in the ARENA second row are incredibly sub-par for arena scoring.

So I wrote about an essay worth on what's wrong with this, but lemmie just shorten this up("Shorten" yet still pretty fucking long). You want to reply, be my guest but allow me to be the first to say quit your bitching.
"Lol no offense but" Yeah, alright, great start you've got there. Whale or not, there are many people that don't know this, don't blame me for trying to help.
I never quite understood the point of buying orbs for the new characters. They get put in the Arena list for two weeks and never show up again. Players never use the unit ever again, just something for a bonus character. Why? You've got GHB units that are constantly rotating that while do have LIMITED merging ability, you can still merge them into something that's higher than a single unit you managed to get in the new banner (Even getting 3 of the same new character can be worse point-wise than the GHB heroes when fully merged).
This season we did get screwed over for the bonus units, but that's not always the case. They rotate heroes as bonus units, but do you know how many units are in the game? Just curious because of fucking course we're not going to be seeing units like Ayra anytime soon because they have already been a second row bonus unit. Both Mia (And Lute for that matter) will get there chance soon, but when we're getting 0-2 5* exclusive units every season, the chances of getting a specific unit you want is pretty low. Also why the hell would they have seasonal units as the second row bonus? You get them once and then either have to wait a full year for it to do it's rerun (If you're lucky) or wait until a legendary banner which again, rotates heroes. They've got only 2 rows for bonus units and far too many heroes, it'll be shitty one week and amazing another, get used to it.
Arena scoring means jack-shit at this point. I'm currently in the top 10% in tier 20 using the same trio I always use and Alfonse, fucking Alfonse. Yet I managed to get around 45 points with him because I built him up with the correct skills, even with a trio team that either slaughters units themselves or gets slaughtered. Hell, the hardest part about this week was going up against L!Lucina and her VF. The moment this season ends her usage drops drastically.
Auto-farm feathers, merge and build up a few of the GHB units as well as the Askr Trio and you'll be fine with bonus characters.
Lastly, it has to be difficult. While I hate the new changes the Arena has, if other people are struggling it makes it so much easier to pass them in ranks. The harder the challenge is for everyone, the easier it is. Just put some effort into it.

I guess it's ok that you want to vent about your bad luck, but it can be compared to yelling about losing on a slot machine.
The arena bonus units being from the most recent banner was always a thing and it makes sense from the devs' standpoint, because how else would you want to promote sales for the new heroes? The f2p bonus units are chosen to keep people in the tier 19-20 limbo (+ the chosen units are random), because they are lower scoring, which yet again indirectly forces you to get a new arena bonus unit . It makes perfect sense.
Just empty your salt bucket and deal with the fact that you got a shitty outcome.

If you ever feel the need to whale you should try playing other games (immediately if possible) and then remember the price you paid for the game comparatively. I remember doing this when I bought the Zero Escape first 2 game bundle and then thought to myself. I could play 40/50 hours worth of well written story that I will remember for a long time. Or I could have just a chance to get some dancer for an app game that isn't competitive nor multiple player that I may not even use frequently because I already have 4 of them I frequently use. If you can compare what you spend your money on it becomes a lot easier to stop. Also don't link your billing information to the game, that helps too.

If you're just trying to get into T21, I don't think you need a super high score on your bonus unit this week. Assuming you've got a high-scoring armor core (since you're a whale I'm guessing this is true), even Alfonse should be good enough.
Staying in T21 next week might be a little harder, though.

I understand your pain, I'm also not an F2P player since this June and got my share of many useless pity breakers.
The orbs are so pricey and sometimes I regret buying them when I don't get the units I wanted. My advice is I think you shouldn't whale for units only to use them temporarily for Arena bonus season, but if only you truly like the character and going to frequently use them in any mode of the game.
