Ayra vs Karla, who is the best sword unit

In terms of consistent damage: Karla
In terms of burst damage: Ayra (Regnal Astra is OP)

Best sword user? Obviously, Legendary Ike.
You attack him, he kills you and even recovers all hp.

My +Def Legendary Ike destroys archers, axes, daggers, healers and swords easily.
Also he can tank mages (with Guarding Breath, Distant Defense and some buffs).

He has counters, of course, but Ayra, Mia and Karla also have counters. I think our legendary boy is better for a simple reason: better burst, and also, better defensive phase.

I don't like speculating too much with characters I don't have or haven't used (RD, GC, VG) myself so I can't really say about Karla but I haven't been quite as impressed with Ayra as the rest of the world seems to be. I mean, she does her thing but I'm not really blown away or anything.

Then again, she's not 100% ready and I have a Lucina bias so that might be a part of it. But I do recommend considering other options too, especially since these two aren't very viable merging targets unless you whale hard.

Indeed, but I didn't recommend her, just mentioned I'm more biased to her.

If I should recommend mergable units, Hana, Soleil or Lon'qu would probably be closest to play similarily to OPs choices.

Part of the problem IMO is tier lists continue to present Ayra as the same level of threat as Zelgius, which is just not true.

I do think in general Ayra isn't significantly better than any of the other tier 1 melee swords, but people give her the nod because Ragnal Astra makes for better max score builds than having to run Aether/Galeforce. And I will give her a nod there just because of how annoying it is having to run those specials (granted Galeforce works pretty well on my Soleil build).

Ayra with her ability to double proc Ragnal Astra has much more capability to break the triangle than Karla does. Karla is a non-existent threat to most tanky blue units because she lacks that same potential burst damage plus lacks as much physical bulk. I only see a case where they're comparable if you're not considering merge or max score potential.

Just as an aside, it's silly to continue to present the tier list as if either is the same level of threat Zelgius is. Zelgius is basically t20 Reinhardt at this point.

I have both. Personally, I like Karla more due to the consistent high damage that she gives out without proccing her special, but Ayra's Regnal Astra is still broken. So.. idk, when I'm using them, they both feel similar to each other, but maybe Ayra is better due to her weapon coupled with Regnal Astra?
