I saw a thread on reddit that had 2 screenshots of lvl. 40 Takumis that had varying stats, such as one of their ATK stat was 42 and the other was 49.
However, my friend argued that there were already pre-determined stats that were distributed to the unit on level 1 while the leveling up growth stats were fixed.
Just curious, but would definitely like to hear ya'll's thoughts
First of all I must say I'm new at this game (just started a couple days ago lol) so I'm still discovering this stuff. My Heroes are now lvl 30 and it seems they get better stats when defeating strong foes, not like the random ones.
It can be RNG, I don't know... But I think it depends on the enemies you beat.
The only thing I truly know about stats differences on the same Hero is based on their Rank. The one Takumi with the higher attack could be a 5* and the other a lower 3* or 4* rank. Then you have to consider merging as well if you're feeding a lower rank hero with a higher rank duplicate.

Currently Takumi will only come in 5* form so it's not because of different stars.

It's kind of both. There is a little of RNG when it comes to the early level-ups, but level 40's have fixed stats according to their level 1 stats. Say a hinata has an attack of 8 at level 1 and 32 at level 40. Find another hinata with the same rarity and attack at level 1, and it will also have 32 attack at level 40. There is a chance that you will gain most of your points earlier than later or vice versa, but at level 40, a unit's stats will be identical to another of the same unit with the same ivs at level 40
