Are Palla or Est Usable?

I'm trying to get the Whitewing trio 5*d. I just 5*d Catria, but I'm hesitant to spend feathers on Palla and Est if I won't use them. I have Elincia with bad stats, and Caeda with good stats. I have a bunch of good lance fliers, but none with good resistance.
Basically I'm being nostalgic from FE SoV and I want a second opinion on usability.
Palla: +Atk, -Def
Est: +Res, -Def

They're not bad units; people just sideline them because Caeda and approximately 5 blue fliers are so good (Cordelia, Tana, Hinoka, Shigure, Clair). Clair even has good resistance.

Since I've accumulated a couple of Est and she was taking up barracks space, I started 4* merging her. She hits quite hard but she's slow compared to the other blue fliers so I'm planning to give her a brave lance build. Heavy spear isn't bad either, to really stick it to Zelgius/Draug and maybe even Hardin and Gwendolyn.

If you like the characters regardless as long as they're not atrocious on the battlefield (which I don't think really any unit is if you invest enough and wisely enough), go for it. It's important to pursue what's on your heart even if the meta doesn't favour it and people chase vainly after numbers (points).

Palla has the problem of not having any specific strenghts, which is her biggest weakness. She can be built in a variety of ways tho, which can actually become your advantage if you are willing to invest skills and team support. It's difficult to recommend her over Caeda and even a bad IV Elincia, but she's not bad, although you might try to hunt for a speed boon and a resistance bane, because def is her superbane and it brings her to 24, which is not really beneficial.

Est on the other hand has a clear strength and that's her attack (+ a really good res stat). Her second advantage is having slaying spear as her base weapon (after refining) which gives her a huge advantage against armored foes.

Palla definitely is a good unit. Give her Slaying Edge or Wo Dao with Spd refine, Fury, and have her IV be +Spd -HP. She’s very good.

Est, however, is literal garbage, and is outclassed by Hinoka and Valter.

I'm sorry, WHAT. Est is NOT garbage. With the proper build, she can have a good niche.

Unit defending aside, what I'm saying is "Think twice before calling someone garbage." Some low-tier units found a way to shine thanks to weapon updates, and the Whitewings won't be different once it's their turn.

My Est has 56 attack and has good defense and very good res with the build I gave her. My Palla once I get her a Wo dao + will be good but until then she is not so great. But Est is my baby and is not trash at all.

Palla and Est can be a monstrosity units, but you need to invest them a lot.
In my case, I invested and build Est (see the image) and she is a beast. She tanks most of the mages and some sword units. a Brave Lance + Death Blow set can also work in her. Btw, mine's +res -spe.
Palla, on the other hand, needs a Wo Dao to be really good. She is one of the few sword fliers of the game, but she can get merges easily. I don't konw a good se for her, so I can't help you there.
