Are they that strong? Absolutely. My +10 merged 4* Cecilia can hit 84 attack on player phase with her bladetome fully buffed. Even though her speed only hits 33, her attack is so mighty that only the bulkiest units can take a hit and live to tell the tale. Couple that with the other members of my blade squad (Leo who hits 79 and will have close counter in the near future; Ursula/L’Arachel, both hit 80 attack and 40 speed, but L’Arachel does it on all phases whereas Ursula relies on death blow; SM Eirika, hits 78 attack and 45 speed on player phase and is interchangeable with Leo), and you have a team that unless negated, can fight and kill max merge teams.

It all depends on how you use the blades as to how powerful they are.

The problem with Odin is that he's an infantry unit, so it's hard to give him +6 buffs, which the easiest way to do that is with the rare tactic skills, couple that with the fact that Odin has THE SECOND LOWEST ATK OF THE GAME.

My first 5* team featured a Bladetome Nino, Sanaki, Nowi and Azura and they got me through a lot of the early content.

The only thing I disliked was that they are too dependent on other units to buff them and they are most often extreme glass cannons.

They are good but I wouldn’t call them overpowered.

Aren’t most teams dependent on buffs from one another? Any insert type here emblem teams become target practice when you pull them apart. Rarely do teams function well as standalone units in a clusterfuck trying to be passed off as a team. Some type of synergy needs to be had to have widespread success. Even a full gimmick team for easy defends in arena is still synergetic.

In terms of standalone units, most teams of 4 standalone units can’t hold a match to the power of a fully synergistic team. That’s why they are called teams. Teams make all units mutually stronger.

In terms of synergy in blade tomes, slap a blade team together in horse emblem or flier emblem, hell even armor emblem can do it now, and you have a team that is arguably stronger than any other team there is. Even my Elise in horse blade can hit 60 attack, and she doesn’t run a blade. A unit who is mainly a healer has the power to weaken units like Brave Lyn, Julia/Deirdre, Jaffar, any LA unit running a gift tome/Casablanca, and then they get killed by one of my blade users without buffs. My team can kill every unit in the game.

Tell me, how is that not overpowered?

Theyre not overpowered in the sense that they aren’t unfairly powerful or fearful. If I run into a bladetome centric team in arena I don’t really worry about it compared to other team comps. If you mean they are “overpowered” in that, under control of the player they can clear any content ingame with a little too much ease, then maybe you have a pont.

That is my point. Under player control, blade emblem can kill everything.

I don’t consider AI control because let’s face it, the AI is Fire Emblem retarded. They don’t avoid panic ploy like players can, they don’t utilize reposition like players do, they don’t get just outside enemy range and then decimate teams the way players do, and they don’t utilize the box formation which allows the team to have maximum power. They pull apart with ease and can be individually picked off.

If there was a player controlling the blade team in arena, different story. They would be almost guaranteed to ruin perfect runs on defense. But because of AI control and the AI’s intellectual capacity of the mechanics of Fire Emblem is a joke, I do agree that AI use of blade teams is a joke. My statement was all about player use.

Simple, your going against AI lol. Also you dont have to depend on pure armor/cav/etc. buff emblem to power blade tome only, a refined Light Breath does +5 to almost all stats in 2!!! spaces after that unit does combat. This allows mixed emblem teams to have a bladetome power as well.

Triple horse blade is extremely potent when you cover the weapon triangle. Even if I was going against a player, I bet I could wipe the floor with them.

Also bladetome calvary can be countered with panic ploy units and other similar skills that negate buffs. An armor team be countered with high mobility teams etc. etc. Again they are great units but not the be-all-end-all of team comps.

The only support pair I've never changed is Nino and Ephraim. They go together like peanut butter and jelly.

Bladetomes are insane, but with everything that's happened (Bow!Lyn/Axe!Ike, the Valentine's banner, the +Eff weapon upgrades for pretty much every anti-class weapon, etc.) they've taken a pretty huge hit. I haven't even been able to use my Summer!Elise in the arena for a long time, because of how flooded it is with Bow!Lyn....
Still, you should never underestimate a Bladetome, especially when used on mixed teams that use Tactic skills efficiently. ESPECIALLY don't underestimate Class Emblem teams that have access to their respective Hone and Fortify skills that put +6 Atk/Spd and Def/Res respectively (especially the Hone skills, as any any Field Bonus applied to Atk effectively doubles the gain...so a skill like Hone Fliers would give a tome-using Flier like Summer!Corrin a bonus of +18 damage).
I mean to be honest, I've probably been overthinking it...at least for non-Infantry teams. Even with the Tactic skills, I don't think Infantry can use Bladetomes effectively anymore.
