Advice on building regular Chrom as a tank?

I'm starting a long term unit-building project because I want to build a team out of my family - Chrom, F!Robin, Brave Lucina, M!Morgan. Going with regular Chrom due to easier merge potential and the fact that my W!Chrom and horse Chrom have meh IVs. Chrom is pretty clearly the tank of the group, and I'd also like to keep his healing potential reasonably high, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to build him. (The others will probably require their own separate posts lol.)

My current Chrom is +def -spd and has no skills inherited (yet). I don't have DC available, sadly, but I do have one spare B!Ike and I've been trying to decide who is worthy of Steady Breath. Here is a build I'm considering:

Falchion (+eff)
Reciprocal Aid
Aether
Steady Breath
QR/Renewal???
C skill TBD depending on what the team needs
Seal TBD (QR only if I have to)

Any input is welcome, but my chief question is about his B skill. On the one hand, considering how much healing he'll get from Falchion and the SB/Aether combo, using QR here and saving the seal for someone else seems reasonable, and then I could give him some other seal (close defense or another buff for the team). On the other hand, if he's also the healer of the team, am I going to wish he had that extra healing power of Renewal in his B slot? I'm f2p and this project is going to take a LOT of time and feathers, so I'm loath to spend 20k giving him QR if it's going to turn out to be the wrong choice.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Mmm, Renewal for his B slot, in my opinion, isn't really that necessary if he has Aether and Falchion. While healing the team would be nice with all that "extra" HP, it shouldn't be too necessary if you pick your unit's battles carefully.

And don't worry, Chrom doesn't need Distant Counter, lol.

I have built my Chrom merge project as a super tank. He has CD3, Guard 3, CD3 seal, Aether and the regular Falchion refinement. SB and QR will net you more kills on the first encounter; but double CD and guard means there are virtually no units that can kill him on initiation, even units like Ayra and Zelgius with monster specials.

QR is always good on him. Renewal would be my choice if you want to max his HM during TT+. But for practical use, DC/QR is a great start, because his high attack can allow him to obliterate mages on the counter. If you don’t have DC, brazen atk/def is a great budget choice.

For an arena build, here’s what I recommend:

Falchion (+eff)
Dual rally
Aether
DC
QR or wrath
flexible 240 SP slot
CD3/DD3/QR if using wrath

He will be able to tank and kill a lot more units with an all-around build like this one.

I don't have DC, sadly, but I'll keep this in mind should I ever get it. Wrath is an interesting idea, though I'm not sure how often it would trigger with the healing from Falchion and Aether, though I suppose the lack of SB in your build helps.
