Abyssal difficulty adjusted from debut?
I can understand why I find the day-to-day rotation abyssals easier; it's that they don't have reinforcements. But I got through abyssal Lyn in about 4 tries and abyssal Eirika feels pretty doable (mind you, I haven't cleared it yet), whereas abyssal Hector took me at least 5-6 tries and I was entirely unable to clear Marth or Grima because I don't have the sheer firepower needed for those.

I honestly don't think we've seen enough "new" map Abyssals yet to really glean any kind of pattern. The daily ones (for the reasons you cited) are definitely easier. Some of the newer one though it's been kinda of up and down. The reinforcement factor seem to be the biggest tripping point for these "new" abyssals. If IS could just find a better balance for that then these maps will probably feel more reasonable in the long run.
I would be really interested to hear how IS actually is expecting people to beat these maps. Are they purposely designing them so that we have to choke point most of them in order to win or has that just become a side effect because most people cant brute force them due to limited summoning/SI resources.

Well it's interesting you bring this up. A lot of the maps offer blockading possibilities. L.Marth was a very hard blockade to establish, but someone found a f2p no SI way to do it. I don't think F.Grima is blockadable. L.Tiki was semi-blockadable due to the trenches and how many of the reinforcements were cavaliers, so that even non-cavaliers got tangled up with them. L.Hector is also partially blockadable, but there are fliers and some reinforcements coming in from the flank. L.Lyn I think I consider impossible to blockade genuinely because there are so many fliers. L.Eirika is a blatant invitation to blockade.
I haven't been enormously successful at maintaining blockades. Nowi's really solid, but the map designers did a good job of putting units that force her to back off. So in most cases I can use her to block one side temporarily, but meanwhile Felicia and YT Olivia are mopping up whatever's coming from another angle.

Certainly in most of these cases a complete blockade wasn't possible (or needed, i didn't use one for L!Hector's) due to other factors (L!Lyn's for example) but at least a temporary choke point was necessary to beat the map. I'm just curious to see if this is what they are intentionally going for or were they hoping that people would just spend more money on summons in order to brute force it.

As was said many times, i think its mostly a matter of units and inheritance.
I had a REALLY though time with lyn, and eirika had to cheese it by locking the aisle with a green tank, while i chipped everything that moved with savage blow.
I took 2 baths and still feel dirty.
Hector, on the other hand, was considerably easier in comparison.
Not grima or marth tho, those guys really didnt want to give me those golden accesories, i remember it took me a good time to figure out a winning team/formation.
