5* Raven...

I was super excited for the PA banner which I had saved 100 orbs for and I was trying to pull Inigo or Azura. Was on 4.5% and the game decided to chuck me a 5* Raven

Assuming Raven is bad, when he's actually badass. Highly worth mentioning his IVs.

I had a -Atk one, but the fact that he's +Spd means he can abuse his best trait. Even with L&D, 43-44 Atk is pretty damn decent when you quad. Mix it up with Luna or Dragon Fang and he'll be a beast.

Don't forget the Spd Seal and Desperation.

Raven is insanely good if he has +atk or +spd and still usable if his spd or atk aren't minus. He's not a standalone unit like Elincia who's also a brave user. But he'll be able to score some pretty good kills on his own. I know that he must be a letdown for you since he ruined your pity rate for Azura/Inigo, but he'll definitely redeem himself if you give him a chance.

Well for one Raven is actually a really solid unit, one of the absolute best units in the game for Quad-Brave builds as well if that's something you're interested in.

I personally prefer him with the Slaying Axe+ and Fury, he becomes an incredible dueling unit with the both of them equipped.

I mean, I also still use B!Ike now instead of him, cause B!Ike is also awesome and objectively stronger... but Raven is still a great infantry unit.

If you don't like him or simply don't want/need him then you can save his Brave Axe+ for a beefy axe unit like Cherche and then give it to her for her optimal build. Honestly getting a 5* Raven isn't a bad thing at all, but understandably disappointing if you were trying for the green performance units lol

Sorry you had to encounter such a situation.

What are his IVs ?
Even if he is not a beast like other brave users (Cherche, Frederick, Elincia ...), he is one of the (if not the) speediest brave axe users, with decent attack.

You can still build him. With decent support he'll rampage most of the blues (maybe Effie will trouble him), taking little to no damage in return.

If you really don't like him / want to bin him for destroying your pity rate, you can feed him to one of the aforementioned axe users that will LOVE his brave axe +.
Cherche and Frederick should be your best picks ; Legion is funny with whichever weapon you wish to give him (might lack some bruteforce to use the almighty brave axe).

A +Spd Titania can also be an option for quad horse build, with decent team support. I don't like her in this role, but hey why not.

Should you have a summer Tiki, her tankiness might create an interesting brave build ... But still. Cherche and Frederick for the win.

What are you talking about? He's potentially one of the best. L&D3 Raven +Spd with a Brave and a Spd Seal is looking at 47 Atk and 39 Spd. That's 2HKO'ing consistently and quadding stuff to death if you're not. It's like an Hone away from quadding Ryoma and neutral +Spd Lucina. Otherwise, +Atk is still looking pretty badass at 50 Atk/36 Spd...

When you compare him to DB Cherche on offense, that's -6 atk.
Brave axe makes that -12, which is enormous.

When you're capable of two shots killing anything, you don't need those two more hits Raven gets because of his speed.

With that build Raven can't kill your standard Effie and takes 25dmg from her on riposte, then he is defenseless against her next assault.
You talk about Ryoma, his standard build with Fury kills Raven, who can't give those next two hits.

Attacking reds and not killing them is not a good idea with his defenses, severly hindered by L&D3 (defensive spread with L&D is 20/13, compared to Cherche's 32/16).

I'm not saying that he is bad. Just that he is not the best Brave Axe user out there :)

I'm not going to mention him fighting a Red if he's not killing them, hence why I did. The example a mentioned quads and actually manages to kill neutral Spd Fury Ryoma with the appropriate special (Luna or Dragonic Aura). I'm not saying he's as good as +Atk Cherche, but Quad is just very powerful and gets the job done. A rule of thumb is if you're not killing in two hits, you'll likely do it in four (examples like Hector). Defense isn't even a real drawback when it can be played around. Desperation is pretty much certain, and then you have stuff like Reposition and Dancers to play with. It's actually funny, because the calculator expresses an extra win from full HP to literally 1 HP because of that. If anything, he can actually beat said extra 12 deficit with one of said specials. Dragonic Aura with 47 Atk is 13 Dmg, and he's garanteed one of those every time he quads.

EDIT: actually Quickened Moonbow Cherche is where it's at. But still, I'd only say she's marginally better.

I've done the math too, it's just work, investment and team options in the end. Anyone is viable with proper SI and teams !

He is less a standalone unit than Cherche,which is why he should be (and is as far as I know) in a lower tier.

Lower tier units are still very usable. They just require more work or team members to perform greatly, which you also say in your answer. In the end we agree on the topic :)

He requires Desperation (Cherche doesn't and can use another BSkill instead)
He requires a special (Cherche often doesn't but can perform greatly with a bonfire or a moonbow. Quicken pulse helps)
He requires a dancer to reposition (Cherche often doesn't, thanks to hit&run + flier status)

Against the entire vanilla roster and unbuffed, Cherche dies more often (27 losses vs 18 or 21 according to Raven's boon) but kills more. And still has the movement advantage compared to him.

(Also we are going off-topic ; we'd need this Raven's IVs before thinking of building him !)

I guess I didn't take that part into consideration (investment and how things fall into a vacuum). In that aspect, she's better. I didn't recall tier list creators taking those kind of things in mind (investment).

and yeah what the hell. We can't just guess what that person's Raven looks like. lol All this discussion actually has me thinking +Atk Raven may also be really good.
