5* a healer?

So I really like the ability to use a healer in arena, to save points. I think, and please correct me if wrong, that the ~10-15 points you miss out on from having a sub-rate character in your team is worth avoiding the 65+ point drop from losing a unit. However... I guess a dancer could also solve this problem. Here's my particular issue:

The healer I have been using, 4* Maria lvl 36 and counting (slowly) is alright. I like her range. I think 4*'ing my currently 3* Clarine, or 5*?, would be better for more advanced arena play. She does cap out at higher points than Maria. And, honestly, at 4.1k+ arena scores, the difference in ranking is pretty notable. Losing 30-70 points total can be the difference between ranking 30-50k or higher than that, which becomes the difference between 1k or less feathers, or 1.5k-2k+, and so on. Y'all know how this works.

So... Seeing as how my primary blasters are Tharja 5* and Camilla 5*, with my 5* Eirika having replaced (for now) my sorta-subpar, 4* Nowi, and not having drawn many better units (I'm lucky that I pulled a Klein to still get a bonus next arena cycle(s)), maybe a healer is a good idea? Tharja will generally kill 1-3 enemy units. But when she blasts a Takumi, Julia, or Robin, I do need to heal her up a little and also bring Camilla in to clear threatening units.

mRobin: He has nerfed attack. Makes me think he could do okay as 4*, but definitely not worth 5* His 4* lvl 1 stats: HP 18, atk 13, spd 7, def 5, res 4 if I rank him up. Currently a 3* lvl 21.

4*s that I haven't really considered using, but are probably good ideas? fCorrin, Setsuna, Felicia, Jeorge?, Kagero.

Obviously, there's a lot of mixing and matching available here. And yes, while I have been lucky in my amount of 5*s pulled, they've been kind of middling in who they were, lol. But the question remains, is a 5* healer worth the investment? Is it really recommended to continue into higher tier play with a healer and glass cannon oriented play style? In ~130 Advanced games, I've lost 2, maybe 3. However, I'm limited in how high I can score because of who I've pulled, how hard I have pushed to level them, and who I'm deciding to use and not use. Inevitably, in 7 games, I tend to have 2-4 (5 if a game goes poorly, i.e. I fucked something up) unit deaths. That's a pretty big point swing, but I still feel like it's pretty damn good? Still no 7-Perfect, 0 death streak though.

There really is no way for you to get into the top 10k ranking if you are running a healer, your team rating is just going to be too low.

At the end of the day if you want the best chance of getting in the top 10k, just sort your units by ranking and pick the 4 highest ones. Sub the lowest one for a bonus unit if it isn't in the top 4. It doesn't matter how unbalanced your team is, you will win 7 in a row eventually. Of course this strategy requires a lot more luck, patients, and dueling crests.

If you don't care for making the top 10k and are just going for the 10k-30k ranking you can make a more balanced team, however I still wouldn't recommend a healer because its just going to make it that much harder to get points.

Nowi would be the best unit you listed to promote to 5 stars, she is strong and bulky and has a high rating. She is weak to falchion users but that's what your ranged nuke is for. You could also 5 star Olivia if you wanted to run a dancer instead.

My current rank is 21,585 with a score of 4,323. I had a team rating of 637 and lost two units in one of the battles, the rest were flawless. So I could have probably maxed out at 4,450 with enough luck. So your goal to be in the 10k-30k rank is make a team with 600-650 rating. The higher your rating the more units you can loose and still get a good rank.

The current arena system is a little meh as it forces a lot of these units down your throat but meh, what can you do. As long as you are happy with your team and rank it doesn't matter that much.

Thank you for the very balanced response. I guess my Olivia will end up with higher stats than Nowi (except that her lvl 1 stats at 5* will be HP 17 atk 17 spd 6 def 6 res 4... Which is apparently just -spd +def with an added helping of -atk lower than the gamepress calc even goes. Is that a bane?? Wish there was a guide about how that works somewhere on the site.) So she's decent. Wish her spd were higher to avoid getting doubled, but she shouldn't see combat anyway. I'll probably end up 5*'ing her and Nowi both soon enough. That Switch release bonus was nice. I'm a mere 11.15k feathers away from double 5* upgrade. Not bad versatility.

And I agree with you on the rating sort method. My team right now is going in at 624 points for a perfect advanced game, so I -could- cap at 4,368, and that's with a lvl 36 healer lol. mCorrin would do more points than Tharja or Camilla if I got him to lvl 40, but I'd likely get more unit deaths without ranged nuke or at least Some color variation. I'm at 4,158 so... 3 unit deaths over 7 Advanced games, with a game or two at the start of the chain with a sub-lvl 40 Eirika. I think I'm going to rank pretty high if I ever pull better units. Of course...then I'll roadblock against whales with like, Takumi+10 or something.

All in all, excellent and helpful reply! I'll probably 5* Olivia, grind to 40 fast, and see how much horrible nuking I can do with Tharja going double turns and two units for easy access to attack buff. Plus, Camilla with pocket dancer on defense will probably wreck some.

(And next week I'll pull a 5* Azura and laugh a lot in frustration at rng.)
