Assets

  • +SPD: Valentine’s Mist most notably benefits from receiving a +SPD IV to maximize her stellar offensive capabilities, enhancing her overall damage output significantly by enabling her to perform follow-up attacks with relative ease.
  • +ATK: Alternatively, a +ATK IV can be taken to capitalize on her excellent base Attack stat and bolster her raw damage output sizeably, synergizing particularly well with offensive builds that are reliant upon her ability to consistently OHKO her opponent.

Neutral

  • HP / DEF: Valentine’s Mist prefers to keep her physical bulk of 53 intact to lessen her chances of being OHKO’ed on retaliation by non-red physical damage dealers, with this being an especially effective strategy when equipped with Fury and/or providing her with Fortify Cavalry support. Her HP can be lowered should no other option be available, however, a -DEF IV remains a poor choice due to it lowering the stat by four points as opposed to the typical three.

Flaws

  • -RES: Despite being the stronger of her two defensive stats, Valentine’s Mist’s Resistance stat makes for her ideal choice of Flaw as this allows her to preserve her physical bulk while still retaining enough magical bulk to at least take a single hit from a non-red mage.

Thanks to her fantastic offensive spread, effective five-tile range, and access to class-exclusive buffs, Valentine’s Mist is an exceptional user of the standard Blade tome build to serve as a powerful offensive nuke, making particularly effective use of this build’s extremely high offensive ceiling. This does come at a cost, however, namely her over-reliance on team support to function properly -- fortunately enough, though, her access to class-exclusive buffs such as Hone Cavalry allows this issue to not detract heavily from her overall level of effectiveness, generally being negligible in most scenarios.

Aside from her native Rally Def/Res+ (which generally should only be kept to elevate her Arena scoring potential or allow her to provide team support), a movement Assist such as Reposition will work excellently here and enables her allies to take full advantage of her extended mobility. Alternatively, one can take Ardent Sacrifice to circumvent her low overall bulk and instantly drop her into Desperation’s HP threshold without having to rely on her ability to take a hit.

For her Special, Glimmer is the standard choice for Blade tome users and Valentine’s Mist is no exception, scaling incredibly well with the additional damage granted by Gronnblade while possessing a relatively short Special cooldown to boot. Moreover, Glimmer can also be paired with the Heavy Blade seal to ensure its activation in her first round of combat, provided that she performs a follow-up attack and her opponent counterattacks. Draconic Aura is another noteworthy option offers much more raw power than Glimmer in exchange for longer Special cooldown, though this can also be easily bypassed through the use of the Heavy Blade seal.

Atk/Spd Solo is Valentine’s Mist ideal choice for her A slot skill, allowing her to maximize her offensive potential through its massive +6/+6 Atk/Spd in-combat boost without compromising her already low bulk -- and what’s more, she will be able to benefit from Atk/Spd Solo’s powerful effect in virtually every round of combat, as this build’s offensive playstyle ensures that she will typically be away from her allies regardless. Should it be unavailable, however, her native Swift Sparrow is a perfectly suitable alternative that grants her with a comparable, albeit lesser, offensive boost on initiation. Despite being weaker than both Atk/Spd Solo and Swift Sparrow in terms of raw power, Fury remains a great option to provide her with a much-needed increase to her overall bulk and diminish her chances of being OHKO’d. Life and Death and Brazen Atk/Spd can be considered as potential options as well if utilizing Ardent Sacrifice as her chosen Assist.

Desperation is an irreplaceable component of this build that serves to guarantee Valentine’s Mist’s ability to freely engage in extended rounds of combat, allowing her to unleash powerful, successive hits against opponents without worry of being killed in retaliation. Her C slot is flexible and can be filled by any skill that best suits her team’s needs, though Wave skills are always an excellent choice to make her much more self-sufficient. If using her alongside fellow cavalry units, class-exclusive buffs like Hone Cavalry can and should be considered. Lastly, aside from the aforementioned Heavy Blade seal, the Darting Blow, Atk/Spd 2, and Speed +3 seals are all great alternatives to elevate her overall damage output further.

Valentine’s Mist can also perform exceedingly well when equipped with a one-shot build that focuses solely on maximizing her raw firepower, functioning in a way such that she can effectively circumvent her low overall bulk by simply killing her opponent before they can even counterattack. That all being said, however, this build plays fairly similar to the first and aims to capitalize on Valentine Mist’s potent offensive capabilities in the Player Phase. The same limitations also apply, meaning that she will still be extremely reliant on team support to achieve to her maximum potential.

Glimmer and Draconic Aura are again her best and most consistent options for her Special, both of which scale quite well with the additional damage granted by Gronnblade’s effect. The choice between which to utilize should ultimately be correspondent with his chosen seal -- if making use of the Attack +3 seal, Glimmer will be preferable but if opting for the Heavy Blade seal instead, Draconic Aura will then be her best choice. For her A slot, Death Blow 4 can be considered ideal as its tremendous +8 Attack boost upon initiation allows her to heighten her raw damage output dramatically, offering her the greatest boost to her Attack stat possible by an A slot skill. On a budget, the more readily available Death Blow 3 is an acceptable substitute that similarly strengthens her OHKO capabilities in the Player Phase.

This can be built upon even further by taking Chill Res as her chosen B slot skill to improve her match-ups against high Resistance tanks who could otherwise prove to be a nuisance, as well as allowing her to potentially provide team support to other magic damage dealing allies. Similarly, Valentine’s Mist’s native Res Feint also lets her provide team support while simultaneously enhancing her own individual performance -- in comparison to Chill Res, Res Feint is much more consistent in that one can actually control who becomes inflicted by the debuff, but it does come at the cost of wasting either her or an ally’s turn as well as necessitates that one of them run a Rally skill as their chosen Assist.

Odd Atk Wave and Even Atk Wave are both stellar choices for her C slot skill to augment her offensive potential substantially on odd and even numbered turns respectively, however, they are not necessary for Valentines’ Mist to function properly and can be replicated through team support. Otherwise, feel free to utilize any C slot skill that best suits her team’s needs, with class-exclusive buffs always being incredible options when using her alongside other cavalry units.

Introduction

Gracing us with her calming presence to celebrate the Day of Devotion is none other than Mist, the loving younger sister of Ike. With a stark contrast to her original iteration’s overwhelming mediocrity, Valentine’s Mist makes her seasonal debut as one of the game’s few green mage cavaliers, and a powerful one at that. She boasts a relatively impressive neutral offensive stat spread of 34/34, one of the strongest seen yet on a mage cavalier, providing her with a solid foundation for dealing damage right off the bat. Combined with her access to class-exclusive buffs and extremely wide range, Valentine’s Mist’s offensive potential is nothing short of fantastic — when properly supported, she is easily capable of distinguishing herself as one of the stronger mounted Blade tome users around.

However, although she shines offensively, she leaves much to be desired defensively. In particular, her overall bulk is incredibly poor and makes her virtually incapable of taking on any kind of sustained offensive pressure. This greatly limits her flexibility as a character, restricting her functionality to exist solely in the Player Phase, and causes her to be reliant on skills such as Desperation to avoid otherwise deadly counterattacks. Additionally, although her status as a cavalry unit does grant her access to several advantages over her non-mounted counterparts, it does come with its own disadvantages, namely having to maneuver around terrain such as trenches in addition to having an inherent weakness to cavalry-effective weaponry. Overall, Valentine’s Mist is a remarkable unit to her own right and a great option for any teams looking for a powerful green offensive nuke, simply requiring the proper support to excel.

Strengths

Good Offenses

Valentine’s Mist’s offensive stat spread of 34/34 is incredible for a unit of her class-typing, granting her tremendous destructive potential when properly supported and equipped with a Blade tome.

Cavalry

Her status as a cavalry unit allows her to make fantastic use of her good offensive stat spread by granting her exceptional mobility and access to class-exclusive buffs, both of which she can utilize to skyrocket her effectiveness as an offensive nuke.

Weaknesses

Low Overall Bulk

Valentine’s Mist’s combination of mediocre HP and incredibly low defensive stats renders her incapable of taking on any kind of sustained offensive pressure, making it extremely likely that she will fall should she ever be left in enemy range.

Cavalry

As a cavalry unit, Valentine’s Mist suffers from an inherent weakness to cavalry-effective weaponry in addition to being hindered by terrains such as trenches and forests.

Team Options

  • Cavalry: Fellow cavalry units, such as Summer Linde, Legendary Ephraim, and Legendary Eirika, make for excellent team options thanks to their ability to mutually provide each other with class-exclusive buff support, something which Valentine’s Mist greatly appreciates receiving to bolster her individual performance considerably.
  • Debuffers: Debuffers such as New Year Gunnthrá, Spring Sharena, and Katarina can also have a meaningful impact on Valentine’s Mist’s individual performance by debilitating her foes, subsequently making them much easier to deal with.
  • Refreshers: Refreshers such as Bridal Ninian, Legendary Azura, Leanne, Performing Azura, Lene, and Reyson pair perfectly with Valentine’s Mist’s offensively oriented playstyle, allowing her to take full advantage of her effective five-tile range and extend the already impressive range of her attacks.
  • Strong Blues: Valentine’s Mist is particularly vulnerable to strong reds with most being able to swiftly take her down without much effort, making strong blues like Winter Ephraim, Legendary Tiki (Young), and Winter Robin worthwhile considerations as well to cover this weakness.

Counters

  • Negating Buffs: Particularly when equipped with a Blade tome, Valentine’s Mist’s offensive potential is entirely contingent upon the buffs she receives from her teammates. Units who commonly use Panic Ploy, such as Garon, Zelgius, and Luke, can take advantage of this and turn her own buffs against her, allowing them to function as surprisingly effective counters.
  • Strong Reds: Strong reds such as Valentine’s Ike, Karla, Tiki (Adult), Legendary Ryoma, Ayra, and Winter Tharja also serve as formidable counters to Valentine’s Mist thanks to their Weapon Triangle advantage over green units like her.
  • Effective Damage: Hoshidan Summer Micaiah, Gray, Gerome, and other common wielders of cavalry-effective weaponry can take Valentine’s Mist down with relative ease as well thanks to the bonus damage they receive when fighting against cavalry units.
