HPATKSPDDEFRES

Thea is an all rounder with decent stats in all areas, but does not excel one way or the other. Whether she is built offensively or defensively, Thea relies on her Attack and Speed to secure KO’s. She is gifted with decent mixed defenses which is a rarity among fliers and gives her an edge over offensive fliers such as Cordelia and Tana. This also means there is no perfect flaw for Thea, as every stat is important for her in some way. It is recommended to try and merge her at least once to remove her flaw.

Assets

  • +ATK: Thea relishes the chance to increase her attack, as base 31 is low and she lacks a personal weapon to give her an advantage over other lance fliers.

  • +SPD: Speed is important for Thea on both phases, but primarily helps her offensively.

Neutral

  • RES: Thea shouldn’t reduce her Resistance, as it enables her to counter mages offensively using a set with Distant Counter. It also protects Thea from debuffs applied through Ploy skills.

  • HP: HP is important only because it affects both Thea’s magical and physical bulk.

Flaws

  • -DEF: Defense is still important for Thea, but still remains her least important stat. If using Thea’s full defensive set, she should opt for a Resistance or HP flaw instead.

This build transforms Thea into a unit with varied strengths and enables her to take the field offensively, defensively, or as a support. This build has many variations from its optimal setting, and it is recommended to use the appropriate alternative skills for the job. This is not a set and forget build, it should be tweaked and changed for different maps and modes.

Wagasa is Thea’s recommended weapon, granting her the effects of Chill Def. This helps to patch up her Attack while allowing her to support allies. A Speed refine is done to boost her offensive power, and help her score follow-up attacks while preventing them in kind. She combines this with Chill Spd to apply double debuffs. Chill Atk can also be used, but Chill Spd will directly benefit Thea much more.

Distant Counter allows Thea to handle mages quite well, although Fury is a great budget alternative that improves her melee capabilities. Fliers are very limited in A slot skills, and Fury remains one of the best for all-rounders like Thea.  Glimmer should be taken with Distant Counter as it offers great scaling on mages. Moonbow is the best choice otherwise to help cut through defensive behemoths.

Thea’s build opens up a lot when it comes to her C and Seal slot skills. Def and Res Tactic are recommended for her in mixed teams, while she should run Hone Fliers and Atk/Spd Bond or Atk/Spd 2 on a flier team. Guidance is great when she’s paired with armor, and Iote’s Shield is perfect (provided she has Distant Counter) if she’s needed to hande enemy archers. Rally Up Atk+ is best when she’s in a mixed team, but when used with Fliers she should take Reposition or Swap to assist with mobility.

  • Passive A: Fury  / Steady Posture

  • Passive B: Lancebreaker

  • Passive C: Drive Spd / Goad Fliers

  • Sacred Seal: Atk/Spd Bond

This budget set takes advantage of Thea’s natural bulk to turn her into a wall with significant Defense and Resistance. This set is very effective at walling red and blue melee threats, and can be built using only skills inherited from units in the three and four star summoning pool.

Vanguard is the lynchpin of this set, giving Thea a large boost to Defense and a modest Resistance increase. This serves to make her more resilient and powers up her Bonfire Special. Fury is the best budget defensive option, although her natural Steady Posture is a much weaker alternative.

Lancebreaker helps her counter enemy armor with Bold Fighter and ensure follow-up attacks on faster Lance users such as Nephenee and Subaki. Bonfire is the Special of choice as it hits extremely hard coming off Thea’s boosted defense. Moonbow is a good alternative which can be reliably triggered in one round, while Bonfire requires two.

Atk/Spd Bond in her seal slot gives her a much-needed Attack boost. The improvement to her Speed is vital as she has no guaranteed follow-ups (aside from against Lance users). Drive Spd is a cheap Skill with great support effects, although she can instead use Goad Fliers if fielded on a flier team. Reposition and Swap are interchangeable, and the final choice depends on personal preference.

Introduction

Thea hails from the snowy mountains of Ilia, and is a Lance flier as well as Shanna’s older sister! She is an offbeat unit who departs from the typical offensive flier stereotype, having a decent mix of HP, Defense, and Resistance. Thea’s build options are quite extensive with many options, particularly in her Seal slot.

Statistically she has no weaknesses, although her Attack is below average. She has great Speed which helps out her offensive ability, and frees her from relying on skills such as Quick Riposte to function well defensively. Her main advantage is her solid mixed defenses, which is a rarity among fliers (although Catria boasts better stats overall with the effect of Whitewing Lance active.

Thea’s main problem is the existence of other blue units with better statlines and personal weapons to give themselves a niche. Shanna, Cordelia, Tana, Shigure and (HS)Ryoma all far outclass Thea offensively, while she is outclassed defensively by blue armor and infantry who can wield powerful defensive skills Thea lacks access to (due to being a flier). Catria is a much better unit overall thanks to her personal weapon, and leaves Thea with very little niche.

Strengths

Decent mixed defenses

Thea’s main claim to fame is her solid mixed Defense and Resistance of 31/28 respectively. While many Lance fliers tend to excel in just one of these stats, Thea has a decent amount of both, which allow her to do a decent job of walling both physical and magical threats.

Good Speed

Thea’s most notable stat is Speed, at base 35 she can compete in terms of Speed with offensive fliers. This in turn makes her difficult to KO without Bold Fighter or a Brave Weapon. Her Speed is among her best assets, helping her no matter her build or role on the field.

Weaknesses

Lacks Attack compared to other units

At base 31, Thea’s attack stat is underwhelming compared to other units. She can find it tough to cut through high Defense enemies, and means she relies heavily on her Speed to get follow-up attacks to get KO’s.

Cannot access many good defensive skills

By nature of being a flier, Thea cannot use many good defensive skills. This makes her weaker in comparison to many Infantry/Armor tanks, who can use Breath skills and Wrath.  She also lacks a personal weapon with defensive advantages unlike Florina and Tana.

Team Options

Thea isn’t overly reliant on flier team buffs to do her job, and her support build is useful on a wide subset of teams. However, she is largely unable to handle green units due to color disadvantage, so she’ll need support in that area. Additionally, Thea is weak to bows (unless she dons Iote’s Shield), so an ally who can handle them will be of use to her.  Her dual Chill setup allows Thea to support offensive units well.

  • Fliers: Thea is not locked to a Flier team, but she can carry Chill Skills to free up their B slots and buff them with Hone or Goad Fliers. Examples include Caeda, Cherche, Summer Takumi, Elincia, Aversa, Bridal Sanaki, and Camilla.

  • Dragons: A good dragon can let Thea free up her Distant Counter for a better skill by handling ranged threats. Dragons are also great anti-archer units and can remove archers from the field for Thea. Examples include Fae, Winter Fae, Tiki(A), Idunn, Adrift Corrin(F), and Myrrh.

  • Armor: Thea has a good relationship with Armored units, who she can support with her Chills or skills such as Guidance. Examples include Zelgius, Arden, Hector, Amelia, Duma, Winter Chrom, (GD)Ike, and Draug.

Counters

Thea lacks the stats or raw damage to punch through green units, and is destroyed by bows unless she uses Iote’s Shield. She lacks the damage to break through high-defense units and often falls victim to losing Special races. Even when outfitted as an anti-mage, she cannot stop AoE Special mages from eliminating her.

  • Bow Cavaliers/Bow Fliers: Not only do they have weapons effective against Thea, they can outrange her. Bow Cavaliers can cover a long distance, while Bow Fliers threaten Thea in the places she should feel safe. Sue, Brave Lyn, (LA)Roy, Summer Takumi, (WoF)Hinoka, and New Year Fjorm are examples.

  • Hyper-offense Mages: Mages who use Infantry Pulse or other Special accelerators can cut through Thea with ease. Examples include Ophelia, Merric, Sonya, Lewyn, Julia, Tailtiu, and Ishtar.

  • Physical Tanks: Thea’s base Attack is not enough to beat out physical tanks who can often stack more than 40 defense. Although she can indirectly counter them with her support through allies, they annihilate her in direct combat. Amelia, Brave Ephraim, Surtr, Winter Ephraim, Legendary Hector, Effie, (LA)Eliwood, Sheena, and Winter Fae are examples.
